Covid 19 has altered the way we live and perceive our health care needs. What could have passed off as a simple sneeze or a seasonal cough now rings an alarm bell for us and we head to get a battery of tests done in panic mode Undoubtedly the worst affected were the asthma patients or the ones with allergic respiratory ailments. The panic bell would ring faster for them than anyone else and many a times their anxiety we would trigger another respiratory response which could also get fatal. As the world returns to normalcy, there are few lessons from Covid that we should never forget and imbibe forever. In this article I will discuss about allergic respiratory response, allergic asthma and how to prevent it.
First of all we need to understand that whenever our body encounters any foreign object which it identifies as fatal, it triggers an immune response which is called allergy. The object causing this immune trigger are called allergens and any seemingly harmless object can trigger allergy. When triggered, the immune system begins to make antibodies against the allergen and release them in bloodstream whenever it comes in contact with it which mostly manifests as cough, sneeze, rashes, fever, etc.
Amongst these allergic responses the ones which affect our respiratory system (lungs, airways and nasal passages) are called Respiratory allergies which have typical symptoms of like sneezing, congestion, and watery eyes. Allergic asthma and allergic rhinitis are the two types of respiratory allergies. Allergic rhinitis (also called hay fever) results in nasal symptoms and itchy, watery eyes, while allergic asthma results in airway constriction. Symptoms of allergic rhinitis include: Itchy nose mouth throat and eyes Sneezing C in A m
So how do you get to know whether it's a simple sneeze or allergy ?Well, watch out for these symptoms above and get your allergy test done. There are two basic types of allergy tests : Skin test and Bood test. While skin test is more reliable and involves scraping a small section of skin with an allergen, then watching to see if you react, blood test (RAST and ELISA) measures allergy specific antibodies in your blood and is less reliable than former. Although there is no cure for respiratory allergies, its symptoms can be treated with immunotherapy, antihistamines, nasal sprays, and more. Hence, if you have symptoms and the tests have confirmed that you have respiratory allergy, then it is always advisable to first and foremost see your doctor. Avoid any self medication, home remedies or counter top medication.
The first treatment for respiratory allergies is to avoid allergens that trigger your symptoms. In general following practices in daily lifestyle can help you mitigate your chances of triggering an immune response: Place zippered coverings on your pillows and mattresses, Wash bedding frequently in hot water, try not to keep stuffed toys in bedroom, replace wall to wall carpeting with hard flooring, Dust regularly with a damp rags, Keep windows
closed during pollen season, shower and change clothes after being outside, rinse your nasal passages, bathe your pet frequently to reduce exposure to dander, keep high moisture areas (kitchen and bathroom) clean and free of mold, keep your home’s humidity between 30% to 50%, avoid smoke, fragrances, and cold air. Even after taking all these measures of you still get asthma or hay fever, don't wait to visit your doctor. Asthma attacks can be life threatening, do watch out for these symptoms of emergency if you get asthma attack: Rapid worsening of shortness of breath or wheezing, no improvement even after using a quick relief inhaler, shortness of breath when you are doing minimal physical activity. Remember to take medicines on time and see your doctor regularly, because treatment of allergic asthma needs constant monitoring and review of medicine. These were some of the lessons that Covid has left humanity with and it is high time that we keep this lessons in our mind if we are to live a healthy life. Stay vigilant, breathe easy and live happily.

You shouldn’t wait until you have symptoms to visit your dentist Going to the dentist twice a year will usually allow them to catch a problem before you even notice any symptoms
If you experience any of the following warning signs of dental health issues, you should make an appointment to see your dentist as soon as possible:
• Toothache
• Bleeding or swollen gums after brushing or flossing
• Chronic bad breath
• Sudden sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures or beverages
• Loose teeth
• Missing teeth
• Receding gums
• Ulcers, sores, or tender areas in the mouth that won’t heal after a week
• Pain with chewing or biting
• Swelling of the face and cheek
• Clicking of the jaw
• Cracked or broken teeth
• Frequent dry mouth
Crooked or uneven teeth
• Forwardly placed teeth
• Deep or open bite
• Oral habits like thumb sucking, lip sucking, tongue thrusting, nail biting and snoring
Your oral cavity collects all sorts of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Some of them belong there, making up the normal flora of your mouth They’re generally harmless in small quantities But a diet high in sugar creates conditions in which acid producing bacteria can flourish This acid dissolves tooth enamel and causes dental cavities. Bacteria near your gum line thrive in a sticky matrix called plaque Plaque accumulates, hardens, and migrates down the length of your tooth if it isn’t removed regularly by brushing and flossing This can inflame your gums and cause the condition known as gingivitis Increased inflammation causes your gums to begin to pull away from your teeth. This process creates pockets in which pus may eventually collect This more advanced stage of gum disease is called periodontitis
There are many factors that contribute to gingivitis and periodontitis, including:
• Poor brushing habits
• Frequent snacking on sugary foods and drinks
• Use of medications that reduce the amount of saliva in the mouth
• Family history
• Hormonal changes in women
• Acid reflux
• Smoking
• Medical conditions like Diabetes , HIV
Most dental and oral problems can be diagnosed during a dental exam. During an exam, your dentist will closely inspect your:
• Teeth
• Gums
• Tongue
• Cheeks
• Jaw
Your dentist might tap or scrape at your teeth with various tools or instruments to assist with a diagnosis They might take dental x rays for better diagnosis. Be sure to tell your dentist if you ’ re pregnant. If your dentist finds any abnormal lumps, lesions, or growths in your mouth, they may perform a gum biopsy
Wishful thinking of many women, lets collaborate and get together, let's work towards our better future. Let's look back a few generations, our grandmothers were mostly uneducated and were always confined to the house and yet they ran the house in the most effective manner from budgeting to saving to creating emergency fund from the expense that the husbands gave to run the house. Came our mother's generation, many got educated yet they were homemakers as were made to believe that their sole purpose in life is to manage kids and the man of the house is and will only be the bread earner of the family. Many then either worked out of choice or out of compulsion
Come today, yet not all are 100% educated and not all are working and Financially Independent The ones who have become financially independent feel elated and empowered. Here I ask all of you who are reading this blog, is being financially independent actually being empowered? Since women have become financially independent there are many decisions that she has started to take independently, but what happens when she has to manage her on money matters, why is she still dependent on her male counterparts - be it a father, brother husband or son? Some food to ponder An empowered women is someone who is financially independent but also financially confident One of the reasons why women still struggle to break the patriarchy is due to lack of financial confidence in dealing with money matters. Well, you may say, many do yes, they do but even today 33% of the women world over don't find themselves confident in money matters. 60 % relationships are a victim of Financial Infidelity, 30% couples have lied about money matters and 30% chose to hide and not have a discussion on this. My own survey showed the same results, 60 % of the women didn't know what financial infidelity means. Due to lack of interest, knowledge and confidence in money matters we surely are supporting the Patriarchy
I believe no gender is superior or weaker, yet we the fairer sex is made to believe that we are weaker. How can we be weak? - we are the creator, the nurturer, the leaders and above all role model of many kids who look up to their mother for guidance direction and values. While we are trying hard for equality and inclusiveness but do, we ourselves believe in it. Under no stretch of imagination am I trying to belittle women here, all I am trying to say is that are we not just talking about it and not actioning it? How many of us supports women in their endeavor's, trust them with their capabilities and above all believe in their potential. How many of you are willing to walk that extra mile to hone up your skills to manage your money that you work so hard to earn.
If the answers to my questions is yes, perhaps we are ready to #breakthebias. When we ourselves shall #breakthebias, bring a shift in our mindset, we shall be above many challenges that we fail. We need to accept the differences and acknowledge our own abilities and learn to say NO for a NO and YES
Teaching and Learning are two planks of education. If there is teaching but no learning, teaching is futile. At the same time if there is learning, but no application in personal life, learning is futile. In nutshell teaching, learning and applying the same in personal growth, go hand in hand. In a way, that way we make our society, ethically and spiritually progressive and the world a better place to live in.
Dr Wayne W Dyer's book "Wisdom of the Ages" brings before us, some powerful collection of writings, poems, and sayings by some of the greatest thinkers of the past twenty five centuries. None of them are with us including the author, who passed away in 2015, but there is a trail of their teachings which has enlightened the world and continues to enlighten.
The book originally written in 1975 brings forth the key attributes of a satisfying and peaceful life through the reference of some greatest social influencers, of their times Many of them were considered troublemakers, and were even put to death for their beliefs.
