Why Exercising is important

When in mid 90s famous IT sorcerer Dewang Mehta passed away at a young age of 36 due to cardiac arrest,it opened up the whole pandora box of how exercise considered panacea for health can be fatal. A lot was written and easily forgotten about how much of exercise is enough and how much of it fatal. Exercise is absolutely essential for good health but just like any other entity, done in excess and without any rationale or experts supervision it can lead to sudden death

With the recent deaths of comedian Raju Srivastav and actor Siddharth Shukla, churning up the debate over pros and cons of exercise it becomes essential to comprehend the factors responsible for mortality associated with exercise. From my experience as a doctor and research in medicine, these are some of the factors that may make someone vulnerable to sudden death due to exercise and how to mitigate them:

1 Sedentary Life style People who otherwise live a sedentary lifestyle, have a high risk of death if they take part in sudden vigorous physical activity. Key to active life is to go slow and steadily build up your stamina over a prolonged period of time preferably under professional guidance.

2. Congenital heart diseases - A family history of sudden deaths increases your susceptibility towards the same incident. Always get yourself thoroughly checked up for ruling out any possibility of Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or coronary artery disease before taking up an exercise regimen.

3. Mild atherosclerotic plaques-These plaques are non-occlusive and do not cause symptoms unless they rupture. When they do so, they may cause very high mortality events such as acute coronary syndrome. It has been observed that such mildly occlusive coronary plaques require some exacerbating event such as vigorous physical activity to induce coronary thrombosis This could well be one reason that exercise induced sudden death has been observed in asymptomatic young individuals.

4. COVID19- It has been observed that a substantial Indian population has been infected with COVID 19 infection and many such infections had been asymptomatic. A German study has shown that even in mildly symptomatic patients, during recovery from COVID-19 infection, active inflammation may persist in the heart tissue. Vigorous exercise during active Myocardial inflammation can precipitate fatal arrhythmia. It could be hypothesised that an asymptomatic COVID 19 convalescent patient may have fatal arrhythmias on exercise if healing has not been complete.

5. Health supplements and exercise Health supplements are in vogue for muscle building and exercise performance, despite the reports of spurious ones being in market and doctors warning against it. Stop consuming them as they contain banned substances and are potentially toxic to the heart and other body organs. Remember, there is no substitute for a good traditional balanced diet of home.

HEALTH CORNER

6 Thirst and overhydration Keep yourself optimally hydrated during exercise. Dehydration is not good especially in summers, but overhydration could also lead to dangerous consequences and it needs to be avoided.

7- Winters and exercise- Heart attacks triggered by exercises happen more in cold winter months. Consumption of rich dense caloric snacks, excessive liquor intake and a reflex increase in normal blood pressure during winters increases vulnerability of heart attacks particularly after exercise. Avoid at least morning exercise during these months or do so with full woollen protection.

8 An excessive unaccustomed burst of physical activity It may lead to cardiac fatigue. This may cause abnormal cardiac haemodynamics leading to sudden death. The key to preventing this entity is gradual learning and prolonged intermittent rests in between the exercise regimens

While these are the factors which can make exercise fatal, it doesn't mean that one should not do exercise at all. In fact, exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, your attitude and your mood." Exercise is very importan because: it releases Endorphin hormones which reduce pain, and make you feel happier , gives you more energy and promotes quality sleep, reduces stress and anxiety levels, helps fight depression, helps maintain strong muscles and bones ,reduces risk of chronic diseases like Type 2 diabetes and heart disease, boosts your brain health and reproductive, improves skin and helps maintain weight and live longer.

The key to prevention is measured and systematic training under expert guidance. Remember that there is no shortcut and abridged edition to the perfect body, and staying closest to nature in your lifestyle is the best way to stay fit and healthy. So make sure to include following moderate exercises in your daily routine for a happy and healthy life:

● Walking two miles in 30 minutes.

● Biking five miles in 30 minutes.

● Swimming laps for 20 minutes.

● Running one and a half miles in 15 minutes.

● Doing water aerobics for 30 minutes.

● Playing volleyball for 45 minutes.

● Playing basketball for 20 minutes

● Jumping rope for 15 minutes.

● Walking stairs for 15 minutes.

● Washing your car for 45 minutes to an hour.

● Gardening for 30 to 45 minutes.

● Raking leaves for 30 minutes.

● Dancing for 30 minutes.

GROW GREENS

Let's paint our gardens with floral blooms

Friends, winters are about to knock at our doorstep . Let's wipe away the winter gloom with some seasonal blooms . You can plant marigold, salvia, pansies, chrysanthemums ,flox and many more winter seasonals. All you have to do is to visit a local nursery and buy some saplings . Get hold of some shallow pots too. Now let's prepare the soil. Since it is winters , we have to add extra fertilizer and compost to give necessary warmth to the soil. Mix one part soil, two parts fertilizer (dried cow dung) , some compost and a bit of sand, sprinkle some turmeric powder to keep ants and insects away ... Make a porous mixture. Cover the hole of the pots using pebbles or broken earthen pots and fill 3/4 of the pot with soil mixture. Make one inch deep hole two inches apart . Place the saplings gently in the holes and press the soil gently around them . Sprinkle some water and keep the pots on indirect sunlight. The saplings shall start growing in one week's time . Water the plants only when you find the soil dry . Try feeding the plants with banana peel liquid fertilizer once a week. Soon you shall see little buds on the plants. Your love and care will soon result in beautiful blooms .

Adaptive Leadership In Investments

Volatility, the fear of the unknown, turbulence and uncertainty have impacted the effectiveness of long term plans and strategic thinking of many industries, and it’s no different in the case of investors, more so during the pandemic

Anyone who has mastered the skill of Adaptive leadership, or has started to learn the art and science of it shall be a winner Let’s first understand Adaptive Leadership

“Adaptive leadership, a leadership model that was introduced by Ronald Heifetz and Marty Linsky. Heifetz defines it as the act of mobilizing a group of individuals to handle tough challenges and emerge triumphant in the end. Ronald Heifetz (born February 7, 1951) is the King Hussein bin Talal Senior Lecturer in Public Leadership, Founding Director of the Center for Public Leadership at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and co-founder of Cambridge Leadership Associates. Marty Linsky is a professor at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government and a co-founder with Ronald A. Heifetz of Cambridge Leadership Associates.[1] He served as Chief Secretary/Counselor to Massachusetts Governor William Weld from 1992 1995 and has published extensively on leadership, management, politics, and education He graduated from Williams College and Harvard Law School.[2]

The recent pandemic has forced every investor to be an adaptive leader and think like one. The ones who were able to adapt effectively during these tough times that the stock market went through, indeed have turned out winners. Having said that, however, the journey of investments is not about winning or losing, its more about one ’ focus on factors that are under one ’ s control and in the process of identifying oneself one ’ s risk profile, goals and above all who one really is.

Many think that choosing an investment is all about the product or underlying asset one invests in. If this is the thought then one really needs to think again, as making an investment is all about “You” for” You” and By “You”

Making an investment and sticking to it is not just an issue of the intellect but, in my experience, one that is very emotional , which is why almost all investors, seldom see the returns that service providers like Mutual Finds give. The inability to stick to a plan, the signs of it and the lack of patience are all actions that come from a place of emotion.

Most investors tend to focus on the volatility or the changes in the environment or the underlying financial market, but no one, and I say this with confidence, pays attention to their changing mind and the impact of the mental blocks that an individual has.

This is where being an adaptive leader and mastering that skill comes in handy. Adaptive Leaders/investors have a unique blend of skills, perspective and conscious effort that helps them tide over rough times. Being adaptive can help the investor be proactive, long term and inculcate the biggest virtue that’s needed for investments Patience. Hence investors who are adaptive in approach, shall always have a fruitful journey and shall always meet their goals , after all if you don't persist , you perish. If you dont adapt you don't flourish

Adaptive leadership can be summed up using four main principles: distributed leadership, optimal talent mix, possessing a transparent character, and developing mutual trust.

All these are needed to be a good investor, remember it’s all about you

Flowers of care blossom down the aisles , Compassion is what in every heart resides , They exchange nothing but only smiles , Take me there for a while …

Laughter embraces and friendship cheers , Relationships grow beautifully everywhere , No violence no fear No reasons to fight , Take me there for a while …

My old school building is not old anymore or what I recognise Plush and grand, so wildly rich and, yet somehow that clingwrapped warmth and foil-covered desperate care now lies packaged sanitary none for the taking, only looking in untouched stories of white kitchens and clerical, commercial cooking Now, comfort is another exhalation, in steamed and cooled packets wrapped in banana leaves, it leaves my soul slowly in episodes of wistful sighs Those times that were packed in quintessential lunch boxes opened during the school break breaking open the memories of shared eating and mixed aromas of fried, grilled and roasted morsels of unknown, home made goodness cooked in the warmth of unseen mothers several kitchens all at once rolling over our palates in glee in our first ever joy of eating out chewed in a clichéd hungry innocence exchanged in a barter only children can make of unlike goods of differing values of not seeking a lopsided equation of vicariously engaging in a deal not culminating in understanding but it did, several ways, irrevocably, bind me to them and them to me stuck in the mesh of living past so that as adults, we can now look back and wonder if that was us indeed

A world full of Pain

I was oblivious to this world

A world full of pain, A world full of drugs Pain at all levels, physical, emotional and spiritual

Impacting not just your life, but of three generations

A pain for which god choose you, so you could reform self and others

A pain which you dont even feel A pain for which you steal A pain for which you are willing to Kill A pain for which you die everyday, and yet not die

A pain as if hundred thousand serpents have sting you

A pain of electric current passing thru your wet body

A sickness We all have to overcome

By offering hope love and empathy. Don't shun them, they aren't addicts Don't look down upon them, they are actually sick Don't leave them, they need your help

Today if you disown them, they will never be anyones again Drugs will not just Kill them, Drugs will Kill humanity Drugs will kill empathy Drugs will Kill modesty Make us loose our vanity Make us loose our integrity Make us loose the very purpose of being born as a human

A human who came with A purpose

Your Voice has Power

She knew. There was an elephant in the room. No one ever mentioned its presence.

She kept making efforts to balance on the sharp edges of the space given to her.

She bore the agony of shattered soul with her bruised body .

She lived on pendulum . Her heart desiring to move forward. Her mind reasoning to stay back.

She was clueless . Then, She dared to calm the chaos. She no longer cradled her fears. She decided to stand up and speak that, there is an elephant in the room. She reinvented herself to address its presence. She dared to deal with it. She eventually learnt that Her Voice is her Power.

Embrace your Power!!

THE POWER WITHIN

Waging a battle against a brittle and bitter existence of desperation and despair and sheer subsistence. She struggles to grow a little bit more stronger. She keeps at it, patiently and resiliently, a little longer. She holds back her tears, puts forth a beautiful face and a dazzling smile. She trudges on unmindful, walks with a firm tread, covering that last mile She exists in everyone , irrespective of race and religion and economic chasms. Waiting to be discovered and appreciated with much enthusiasm. She is called Shakti, the power , celebrated and exalted amidst fanfare and din. She is the Durga, Kali, Saraswati and Lakshmi she is the power within. - Swetha Sundar

Techniques of Color Therapy

The goal of Color therapy is to balance the energy centers, maintain vibrations of the body at the required frequency through the application of colors, thus eliminating diseases and induce a positive growth in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual conditions.

Each organ and gland in the body is governed by energy centres called chakras and each one of them have a specific colour to activate, balance it and rectify the aura or electromagnetic field of the human system,

The use of color can help to restore vitality to the etheric body through the projection of specific color rays, which are then absorbed by the chakra centers. The pituitary gland transforms these colors into revitalizing energies that help rebuild the centers that lack energy.

The Red Energy governs Root Chakra.

The Yellow Energy governs spleen Chakra.

The Orange Energy governs the Solar Plexus Chakra.

The Green Energy governs Heart Chakra.

The Blue Energy governs Throat Chakra. The Indigo Energy governs Brow Chakra. The Violet Energy governs the Crown Chakra.

Various Color treatments can be applied to the body in a number of ways to treat diseases. A trained therapist is aware of the right color to be used to heal a patient.

Color gazing: Gazing at a blue light is known to lower blood pressure by calming the autonomic nervous system, while red light increases blood pressure. Proper use of colors help to heal ailments. Colored glass panels, light bulbs are used to heal. Patients are bathed in the light that gets filtered in. People feel good within themselves by wearing colors that have a positive impact on their moods. The use of pleasant colors in the surroundings also has a beneficial effect.

Solarised water: is capable of energizing the body. The Sun’s rays are made to pass through a colored glass bottle containing water, for 6 8 hours. The energized water rejuvenates the body after consumption.

Color Visualization: This therapy helps us direct color energy to the body using visualization. Colors can be visualized to instill a sense of well being. Visualize yourself bathed in the colors you wish and allow it to create a positive impact in your body.

Color Breathing: Color breathing exercises can be done in a ‘lying down’ or ‘sitting’ position. Look at the colors that appeal to you. Select the color that best appeals to you and visualize it entering your body.

Color Meditation

Meditation relaxes the body and quietens the mind. Take time to look inside yourself and calm your mind. Hold your attention to one color that you are drawn to, and meditate on this color. The practice of meditation enables a new experience, making the spirit feel fresh Other tools used for color healing include Gemstones, Candles, and Prisms etc.

Color healing not only works on the physical level but also on a spiritual level. It forms a link between our physical bodies and the finer forces of vibrations. This takes us to higher levels of consciousness leading to spiritual growth
