This anthology is a way to raise funds for Cancer patients from humble background who are not only a victim of the disease but also financial toxicity.

Each book bought gets us closer to bring hope and cheer in the life of one, if not many.

Welcome to the April 2023 edition of Antarman by MHC. April as a month saw some interesting conversations and activities .

We celebrated National Poetry Month with such an active participation by our members. A detailed report is shared in the newsletter by our Co- Editor Mr. Mukesh Bhatnagar.

We celebrated International Dance Day with all of you and got an overwhelming response to the Dancing Star contest.

Our new initiatives #ThursdayThoughts &#FridayFunda were successfully managed by Monica Goel Diwan and Ratan Kumar Agarwala. April also saw two new series #energinsingenviroment by Ila Pachauri and #wowmom by Akta Sehgal , to create awareness on environment and financial literacy.

Yet again this month we heard some inspiring stories of women who are constantly making a difference and are on a mission to empower women and children. We are grateful to our members who share their stories of determination, grit and courage to inspire all of us

In our constant endeavor to work towards health , wealth and happiness , starting May we shall focus on feminine health and Mental well being of women and kids.

Month of May will also see some new collaborations and new initiatives. Till then enjoy the Awesome April Edition

Motherhood Club Celebrated National Poetry Month

In a departure from its regular poetry writing programs and open mic poetry sessions, Motherhood Club celebrated April 2023 as National Poetry Month. Members were invited to volunteer and be part of this unique poetry extravaganza. It was a marvelous opportunity to celebrate the expressiveness, delight and pure charm of poetry. All the credit goes to the Motherhood team for organising the largest literary celebration in India and propagating poetry. Poetry as is known, vents out an amazing wealth of emotions, humour and human experience, encourages people to appreciate the world around and empathize with one another.

Members were invited to render a prompt for the poetry, every alternate day and to be a jury as well for the same.The response was overwhelming as 72 members participated in the month-long extravaganza, whereby 417 poems were received, (305 in Hindi and 112 in English) on 15 different topics.

The range of topics were as amazing as the persona of jury members. Ms Umang Sarin set the ball rolling on 1st April, with her beautiful prompt बसत/Spring, followed by काट/Thorns (Ranjana Majumdar); इधनष/Rainbow (Tapasya Sureka); यार/Love (Sneh Dutt); मझस

मलाकात/Discovering Myself (Manjeet Rajbeer); आस/Tears (Sunita Gupta); इतजार/Awaiting (Aparna Sharma); ख़त/Letters (Pratibha Prasad); वनता स झकना/Humility ( Mukesh Bhatnagar); अकलापन/Loneliness (Monica Goel Dewan); चमकार/Miracle (Pooja Dixit); कजस/Miser (Aparna Ghosh); हरयाली/Greenery (Kamal Nimodia); सकनयत/Blissfulness (Rashmi Sanganeria); मयादा/Honour ( Swetha Sundar).

Ms Akta Sehgal Malhotra, Ila Pachauri, Swetha Sundar and Saradha Iyer participated in all the 15 topics, followed by Harminder Kaur, Jayashree Sriram and Pratibha Prasad (14), Pooja Dixit & Babita Chouhan (13), Sunita Gupta & Mukesh Bhatnagar (12), Manju Lata (10) and rest in one or more than one. Of the 72 participants 42 got Certificates of Excellence, as declared by the respective jury member. It was heartening to see Ila Pachauri getting 14 certificates, , Akta Sehgal Malhotra 11 , Pratibha Prasad 9 and Swetha Sundar 7, including Hattrick performance Certificates by them. Another deserving Hattrick Certificate winner was Suraksha Pruthi Khurana. The only three poets who received Bilingual certificates were Sneh Dutt, Ila Pachauri & Akta Sehgal

The topic that took the fancy of participants were found to be इतज़ार / Awaiting, on which 43 poems were received, followed by 42 on आस /Tear, 35 on मझस मरी मलाकात / Discovering Myself, 32 on काट /Thorns, and 30 on मयादा / Honour.

Each member participant went on to raise the bar with every prompt, making it virtually difficult for the jury to select the winners. Each poem was found extraordinary and a treat to soul. Collectively they all make an encyclopaedia on expressiveness.

Kudos to Motherhood Club team, for giving liberty to the members and making April, so thoughtfully memorable

Mind, Body & Soul – 21 Day challenge

We live each day and learn each day. What we like, dislike or “ save ” in our memories stays with us as we grow. If we intend to grow with positivity and love we consciously inculcate certain learnings that become our habit or second nature. According to experts from psychology today, “habits form when new behaviors become automatic and are enacted with minimum conscious awareness. That’s because the behavioral patterns we repeat most often are literally etched into our neural pathways.”

One such beautiful habit was formed when I participated in the “21day challenge” at our Motherhood Club. The intention of this was to do something that has been resting in your mind or heart for long and due to the daily humdrum of affairs you are unable to incorporate in your routine. At Motherhood Club though the activity was open ended, some of us participated, completed and thoroughly enjoyed too. We read books, went for walks, met new people, learnt new things, exercised and the most important part which has changed a lot in me – we called up those long-lost friends and relatives which were left / ignored due to smartphone messaging and high paced lives. Communication came out as the most important source of happiness and helped in re-wiring my limited and conscious brain a lot.

One-to-one talk over a call or meeting in person still rules very high in helping your brain get fresh ideas, get your soul nourished (especially if the person has been in your close group of loved ones) and infuse in you a sense of hold! A balance! Of reciprocation and understanding of human emotions, acknowledging the presence and assimilating the essence of virtues and noble thoughts for future growth. These new habits of a daily walk or reading a book or calling up someone has made a difference to my thought process (mind), to my metabolism rate (body) and to my calm consciousness (soul).

We should live, smile and grow each day. Along with this, if we have gratitude to the creator and to our elders, we shall be able to live with a well-nourished mind, body and soul!

Puberty

Women’s Health is such a vast field that it is impossible to condense it in a few pages. A Woman passes through many stages in her life right from Childhood, Puberty or Adolescence, Adulthood [Reproductive age], Perimenopause and Menopause and finally Postmenopausal /Geriatric. Each stage has problems and diseases that are specific for that stage. Lets take each stage and discuss few important conditions and problems associated with it.

Puberty is the period when a girl undergoes physical changes related to secondary sexual characteristics leading to her getting her first menstrual period. The average age nowadays is around 10 to 12 years though there are cases as early as 8 and as late as 15.The most frequently faced issue in this stage is of Irregular periods. We first have to understand that the initiation of periods is a complex interaction between various glands and our higher centres in the brain. So, the external environment, stress, exercise [either too much or lack of also affects it. This entire axis HPO as it is known, takes some time to mature. So, getting irregular periods for the initial 2 to 3 years is not alarming at all. I have seen anxious mothers rushing to doctors and starting hormonal treatments. Our human body is a complex, highly organized, self-healing, marvel that we humans cannot duplicate. Best is to give it time to mature and if it persists beyond 3 years post puberty, then consult your doctor. Of Course, if the bleeding is heavy or extremely painful ,then treatment is advisable.

The second common problem in this group is either heavy or scanty periods and painful periods. If the bleeding is so heavy that the person becomes anaemic and weak, then a doctor must be consulted. Similarly, if the periods are so painful that the routine gets affected as in being unable to attend school, then a doctor has to be consulted. Here, I would like to stress that there is no harm in giving specific pain killer to your child if she is in pain. People have a preposterous notion that these medicines are habit forming or addictive. The other frequently consulted problem is regarding overweight issues, development of acne and excessive facial hair. This is a temporary phase of the hormonal axis maturing and the hormones balancing each other. In most of the cases, proper hygiene and skin care is enough. In few cases only where the acne eruptions are large and painful, a dermatologist’s intervention is needed. Besides these, mood swings, eating disorders, irritability and anger issues are few problems faced by the adolescents. Of course there are few cases of failure of attaining periods by 16 years of age. There are many causes for the same that needs thorough investigation and treatment.

Most of these problems can and should be treated with non-medical , adjuvant treatment. Exercise and balanced diet are the two main pillars of the treatment. Exercise has been shown not only to help reduce the weight ,release ‘feel good substances’ but also helps in maintaining hormonal balance .Similarly ,a well balanced,nutritious diet is equally important. Nowadays lots of diet fads are the rage like the keto diet, intermittent fasting, gluten free diets or turning vegan. A word of caution here.

Puberty is a stage of growth that needs all the nutrients in proper quantity. Avoiding gluten, or consuming only proteins should be avoided. The best way is to avoid high calorie, fat and sugar rich foods. Our traditional Indian diet is the best example of a well balanced diet. Parents play a very important role as the first counsellors for their daughters. An open channel of communication , refraining from imposing unreasonable expectations and making them feel loved and cherished just as they are is most essential.

Another important and relevant discussion here is about the anti HPV vaccines, popularly known as anti cervical cancer vaccine. This vaccine gives protection against the common Human Papilloma Virus[HPV] strains that are responsible for 60%of cervical cancers. This virus is sexually transmitted and many times is asymptomatic. This is the best time to vaccinate the girls against HPV viruses. I have dealt briefly with few of the common problems faced by the Adolescent girls.

How often should I meditate?

Research has shown that even just a short amount of regular meditation can help. One who received eight weeks of mindfulness training showed lower levels of stress during a multitasking test. Further research found that meditating for just 20 minutes per day reduced the adverse effects of stress.

"Regular, consistent practice is the key to reaping lasting effects. The main thing is to commit to the practice and sustainably wind it into your wellbeing routine.

Getting started

There are plenty of ways to get started. Beginners might benefit from guidance, so try a YouTube video, download an App, or find a face-to-face guided meditation session you can try. If you ' re meditating at home, it's important you aren't disturbed so turn off the phone, close the door and find a peaceful, comfortable spot. Try to meditate at the same time every day, as this establishes a routine. The more you practice, the quicker you will learn, and the more benefits you will experience.

1. Start small: Do not rush into 30-minute meditations right out of the gate. If you have trouble sitting still you can start with as little or as much time as you want.

2. You don’t have to close your eyes: Many people think you must close your eyes when meditating. Fortunately, that is not true. You can pick on object in the room and simply maintain a soft gaze while counting your breath.

3. Allow your mind to wander and then bring it back

If you try to stop your mind from wandering, you will never win. Instead allow your mind to wander and when you notice it happening just bring your focus back to the moment. Do it as many times as you need to and try not to get upset if your minds active.

Meditation is a practice. And as such you can’t expect to be a zen master within a week. It’s just not likely and with meditation and the more you focus on the outcome the farther you get from it. It’s a paradox but true because meditation requires living in the moment. The more you are focused on this future destination, the further you are from the moment. few styles of meditation you may enjoy:

Successful Investment Mantra

The mantra to make successful investments is very simple. Know yourself and be true to yourself.

Yes, you read that right, no complicated formulas or confusing jargons. Just plain simple two words “know yourself and true to yourself”

Soil pH

Success in any garden depends on healthy soil. Soil—as much as water and sunlight— determines whether plants thrive or die.Your soil needs to be able to provide nutrients to plants. Otherwise, your plants just won’t grow well. Having the right soil pH (level of acidity) means your plants can take up the necessary nutrients in the soil. If you soil r pH is too high, many nutrients such as phosphorus and iron may become less available; if your soil pH is too low, it can be toxic to plants. Without healthy soil, it is very difficult to have a thriving garden.

Another reason we test the soil is so that we won’t need to rely on fertilizing the soil too much. If you start with healthy soil, you won’t need so much “fixing.” . Start preparing the soil: April is a good time to start preparing the soil for the upcoming growing season

Let's do Soil pH Test at home

Place 2 tablespoons of soil in a bowl and add ½ cup vinegar. If the mixture fizzes, you have alkaline soil.

Place 2 tablespoons of soil in a bowl and moisten it with distilled water. Add ½ cup baking soda. If the mixture fizzes, you have acidic soil. If it does not react to either test, the soil has a neutral pH, meaning your soil is just perfect. A very high or very low soil pH may result in plant nutrient deficiency or toxicity.

If the test proves the soil’s alkalinity, fix the soil with sulfur or pine needles. If the test process that your soil is acidic, add lime or compost .Add compost or organic matter to the soil to improve its fertility and structure. These simple yet effective tips shall help you keep your green babies happy and well nourished.

कछ उनद सी थी म , थोड़ी थोड़ी ऊघती सी । धड़ाम ,,,,धड़ाम,,, प प ,,,अ ईईई हाय ,,, कछ चीख दद भरी ,,,,फ़र र जाती फ़राट क आवाज ।उफ़,, दन भर क प प , घर घर , शोर गल स कभी कभी तो कछ शात मल पाती ह । अब या हो गया ? आख खोल कर दखा । एक पह सोलह साल का लड़का गरा आ था और उसक सर स खन बह रहा था ,,, । ओहो य लड़का तो शन स रोज़ इसी समय लौटता ह ।और फर दखा एक मोटरसाइकल तज़ गत स ओझल होता आ ।हा ,,इसी ने तो साइकल सवार लड़क को टकर मारी थी। इतना गसा आया क सोचा लपट जाऊ उसक मोटरसाइकल क टायर स कोई गा बन,,,,या मरा कोई ककड़ उछल कर उसक आख म जा पड़, गरा उस भी जस उसन लड़क को टकर मार कर गराया था । पर या करती कस करती,,,,,,वो भग गया फ़राट स । पलट ,,,,,दखा,,,भीड़ लग गई थी । लड़का दद म कराह रहा था । फ़र दखा आसपास क लोग फ़ोन नकाल सफ़ वीडयो बना रह थ । गसा और भी उबल आया मरा और आय भी आ ोभ भी। या इसान म इसानयत बकल नह बची । पर क म या इसान ? अर,, कोई लड़क क सहायता करो भई ,,,, जी चाहा चलाऊ पर ,,,,,,फर मजबर थी । अचानक एक नौजवान भीड़ को हटाता आ आया । जब स माल नकाल लड़क का ख़न पछा , पानी पलाया । लड़का होश म था ,उसस नबर ल कर घरवाल को फोन कया । "अर,,,, हटो हटो भीड़ य लगा रखी ह ? हवा आने दो ब को । "कह कर लड़क को सहारा द कर फटपाथ पर बठाया उस दलासा दत य । थोड़ी खश हो गई म ,,, भीड़ छट गई । एक कार आ कर क । लड़क क मा बाप आ गए थ । बट को अताल ल जाने क लय झटपट गाड़ी म डाला , हाथ जोड़ कर यवक को हज़ार बार शया दया ,आए द और जद स नकल गय । आह ! मझ लगा कोई दल सा धड़का मर भीतर । मरा पर सा बदन जस कछ मोम सा लगने लगा । य तो पर क ,,,पर सी ही रहती ,, पर कभी कभी पघलन लगती कसी दल सी , कराहती भी ,गसाती भी । कसी का खन बहता ह मर ऊपर, कसी क अमत तार तार होती ह, कसी क रोट छनती ह तो सबक गवाह होती पर गवाही द नह सकती । बस आ मागती इसान का दल सीमट पर का न बने । मझ पर चलो ,भल रद मझ पर इसानयत को नह । टट नह ह उमीद , सास जारी ह । अर मरा परचय ? तो सनो म दली क सड़क ! दल रखती । उमग

शनवार 8 अल 1923 को 27 वर नागरक क साथ हमन नमषारय तीथ तथा अनक धामक ल क याा करक आनद ात कया। जब हम न म जा रह थ तब कछ साथय ने पछा क इस का नाम नैमषारय य पड़ा? तब मन उनको बताया सकत म नमी का अथ होता ह "च"। बत समय पहल क बात ह जब सब ऋष मन कवल भगवत चचा ही कया करत थ। लकन सबस बड़ी बात यह क जब कोई एक ऋष सवाद करता था तो र बठ ऋष मनय को सनाई नह दता था, क या चचा चल रही ह? इस समया स सभी बत परशान थ। तब सब ऋष मनय न आपस म वचार वमश कया और अत म यह नणय लया गया क हम ा जी क पास चलत ह और उन ही स इस समया का समाधान कराएग। इसक बाद सब ऋष मन ा जी क पास पच । तब ा जी ने ऋष मनय स पछा क भ लोक पर सब कशल मगल तो ह न? आप अपन आन का कारण बताइए । ऋष-मनय ने कहा क हम आपस म बठकर जब भगवत चचा करत ह तो एक ऋष क बात र बठ ऋष-मनय को सनाई नह दती। ऐसा बध कजए क हम सब एक सर क कथा कतन का आनंद ल सक। इसको सनन क पात ा जी न कहा क यह मरा नेम ह। इसको म छोड़ता । यह जहा जाकर क जाएगा वही ान आप सबक कथा करन योय सवम ान रहगा । यह कहकर ा जी ने अपना नेमी छोड़ दया । नेमी आग आग चलता रहा और सब ऋष मन उसक पीछ पीछ चलत रह। वह नमी यानी च एक ान पर आकर क गया। सबन दखा क चारो तरफ अरय ही अरय ह यान जगल ही जगल ह । तब स यह ान नमषारय क नाम स जाना जाता ह। सभी ऋष मनय न ा जी स ाथना क , क इस घने जगल म कोई नान करने का साधन नह ह। तब ा जी क कपा स वहा एक बत बड़ा सरोवर कट आ और कहत ह क उस सरोवर म नान करने स सब कार क बीमारया र हो जाती ह। आज भी लोग उस सरोवर म नान करत ए सात परमा जल क अदर लगात ह। यह तीथ लखनऊ स लगभग डढ़ सौ कलोमीटर र ह। । यही पर 5000 वष पराना एक बरगद का बत बड़ा व ह। इसी व क नीच सब ऋष मन कथा सनाया करत थ। इस ात क यह वशषता थी क जब भी कोई कथावाचक या कतन करता था तो वह र र तक ऐस सनाई पड़ता था मानो आमन सामन बठ कर कथा या कतन कर रह हो। आपन असर पढ़ा या सना होगा क सय नारायण जी क कथा म भी आता ह क सत जी न 88000 ऋषय को नमषारय म बठकर कथा सनाई । उस समय कोई माइक नही होता था। लकन इसी वरदान क कारण 88000 ऋष मन एक साथ ही कथा सन पात थ। यहा अनक धामक ल ह जस ललता दवी मदर , ी श धाम, चतीथ , दधीच ऋष कड, राम और जानक जी का मदर, हनमानगढ़ , ास ग, सीता कड , खाट याम मदर ,गोमती नद और भी बत सार धामक ान ह। नमषारय

A CITY OF DREAMS

The story is based upon two women Rati & Rama, the one who helps giving the wings to the latter’s dreams and helped having her own identity in the new city. Rati is a very humble lady & has her own company, she works as a director of the company & is always eager to help anyone in need. Rama has just shifted to the new city in Rati’s neighborhood, trying to adjust herself alone with her two kids as husband was away for work, and will be back in a month or two.

Like every day, Rati came to sit in her balcony with a hot cup of tea, it was a beautiful weather today. Rati was working on the laptop & sipping her tea, suddenly she saw Rama running here & there after kids, and house chores, bit upset too. But she tried to concentrate on her work with her mind wandering towards Rama.

Next day again Rati, sat in her balcony with some hot tea and enjoying the weather and again she peeped in Rama’s house, where Rama could be seen talking to someone on the phone really worried & the sat with teary eyes and again fixing her mood for kids, what’s wrong thought Rati, this time she was really vulnerable & wanted to ask Rama is there any problem she can sort out but stopped herself & thought she should mind her own business. The whole day in the office too she couldn’t focus much.

Rati was returning from the work and suddenly she saw Rama running inside her home hurriedly, now Rati thought its time I should go to her, she went there & knocked on the door, she saw Rati surprisingly, wiping her tears. Can I come in, Rati asked? Rama said yes please & asked her to sit and made some hot tea with homemade snacks, they chatted and Rati finally asked Rama that she has been noticing her for few days, sometimes really upset even crying sometimes, what’s the matter if she feel like sharing. Rama said I just relocated here and don’t really know anyone & my husband is away too, so sometimes I feel really low and alone, nothing serious.

Rati said from now onwards she need not to feel alone as she’s always there whenever she needs a friend, Rama smiled! Rati was looking at her house, which was well decorated, and suddenly saw few pictures on the wall, which were especially portraits of women, they were so beautiful that no one could take off their eyes of them easily, not only this but few knitted & crochet designed things were also there. And Rati was mesmerized with the art she had done all over & she didn’t leave any chance to appreciate her beautiful work.

Rama was so happy and thrilled with all the praise she got. Rati now knew how she could help her feel better in a new city. Rati invited Rama for the dinner at her place. Rama smiled and said that she loved her gesture of making her feel so comfortable.

Next day Rama went to Rati’s house, it was so welcoming. Beautiful lighting in the house bringing the warmth in the ambience and a huge library with amazing dinner. A well spent evening with the wonderful host.

A CITY OF DREAMS - contd.

Rati offered her Ice cream, and proposed an idea in front of Rama, and the idea was to showcase Rama’s Artwork in an exhibition, every year Rati’s company holds such expo, Rama was speechless as she never thought of something like this before. It was a brilliant plan keeping her work of crochet and paintings in her own stall & selling them. Rama left happily thinking of making this plan a success and able to sell and earn too, having her own identity was her all time dream which she forgot in daily household and responsibilities.

Next week Rama was ready with her things to keep in the stall, she was all set with all the positive energy & her beautiful artwork. People started coming to her stall and there was a crowd at her stall, her eyes were twinkling with happiness, she was explaining everyone about her work which the people were praising.

Rati was standing away and watching the overwhelming response Rama got, Rati looked at her & Rama smiled and smirked as if thanking her in return. She sold so many paintings and crochet work. The exhibition went well. Rama was all contended after the whole day. And obviously she earned good amount of money there. And both left for home.

Suddenly Rama saw her house door is opened, hurriedly she ran inside her home, she found so many bouquet in the room and what? Her husband Mohan was standing there, but how, when did he come? So many questions rose in her mind. And she just hugged Mohan with happiness in heart and tears in her eyes, this was something Rama was not expecting. This was the best day for her, her husband surprised her, she sold her artwork and in return she earned too.

Rama introduced Mohan to Rati and told him how she turned everything upside down and gave her the golden chance & the confidence to do something of her own. The couple couldn’t stop themselves from thanking Rati. She invited them to her place the next day to celebrate her win. Rati & her husband welcomed the couple and gifted them a beautiful showpiece. It was a sweet gesture. They all talked, had dinner, a wonderful time. How could anyone skip the dessert & that moment when Rama gifted Rati something priceless, when she opened it, she was spellbound and this time the tears were in Rati’s eyes and it was nothing else but a beautiful portrait of Rati painted by Rama, Rati’s husband Ramesh also praised Rama as this was the first time he witnessed the art by Rati’s friend.

She even gifted them a Crochet table cover which was so beautiful that Rama didn’t take a second to put the painting on the wall & table cover on the table & hugged her friend Rama, a perfect example of a friendship and a person in life who gives you the right direction & spark of happiness in life. They all became true friends and happily Mohan left for work this time without any tension as now he knew that she’s no more alone in the city, rather this is the city of dreams for Rama.
