STORYTELLING IN ELT – 2012-2013

Description

After explaining The Snowman story we will make a circle and then the teacher will show a flashcard like the one below. Then we will explain that each side of the dice corresponds to a part of the Snowman, for example, one corresponds to eyes. Children will roll the dice and add to the empty Snowman the part corresponded to the side number of the dice.

At the end they will build an Snowman!!

Before allowing the children to play with partners, we will play once with the whole class by using a huge dice. The teacher will pick a student to roll the dice

and

say

aloud

the

number

and

the

corresponding Snowman’s part. We just ask one pupil, so the others must pay attention because the teacher will ask if they agree with the answer of their classmate. When we are sure that they have understood the game, they can play with groups of three. In this way students can help others to remember if one gets lost. All three students have to agree with the answer and if someone disagrees they may ask to the teacher.

STORYTELLING IN ELT – 2012-2013

Description

Children will sit in a circle and one child will be chosen to be the snowman. The teacher will covered the eyes of the snowman child and that child will be sitting in the middle of the circle.

We will have flashcards with all the parts of the snowman and we will play with one flashcard each time. The teacher will give for example the flashcard of the carrot to one child and he or she will hide the flashcard behind his or her back, once it is hidden all the children from the circle also have to hide their hands behind their backs and then all together we will sign: Snowman, Snowman, Where is your Nose?

Wake up Snowman, find your Nose.

When the song is over, the snowman will uncover his or her eyes and should guess which person has the nose/carrot. The person with the hidden flashcard will be the next snowman. The teacher will make sure that each child will be having the chance to be the snowman.

Possible variations

This activity can be also done with a real material instead of using flashcards. So we could have a carrot (nose), a couple of buttons (eyes), a hat, an scarf, two small branches (arms) and an smile picture.
