Anna Miret Cover Letter Preschool Teacher University of Barcelona I’m starting this cover letter highlighting the fact that even I couldn’t attend to classes and having been an alternative assessment student because of my job schedule, this subject has given to me useful and helpful information and has enriched me so much. This fact has made me do a double effort to carry out with the subject. I think that the cooperative and collaborative work gives more benefits to the students and I really wanted to attend to the classes and have learned more with my classmates.

I had to do a lot of research and readings before starting to design and adapt the Project Plan for a supposed classroom of 5 years old kids. In my opinion, the previous planning before the real teaching class is crucial to succeed. The project plan that I have designed provides an outline and detailed activities that helps to minimize any obstacle that could happen. In kindergarten effective planning is absolutely required because as a teacher you have to take into account that English is a second language and the kids have just started to learn it, so it is really important to have the next considerations: 

Simple and adapted vocabulary



Children needs to learn through repetitions



They learn at different rates



It is important to use different techniques to attract student’s attention and to keep them engaged



Preschoolers have short attention so the activities have to be short as well, so we have to provide them a variety of activities



Children use their bodies spontaneously so as a teachers we have to provide hands on activities that they can learn through actions and body movement



Take into consideration the atmosphere

I have learned a lot of strategies, vocabulary, structures, organization and specific knowledge that I Know it before: how to manage a class in English, what subjects should I teach, what goals I want the kids to achieve, how to speak to the students (combining English and Catalan sometimes, using a lot of mimic and gestures, provide pictures and other visual materials to support the explanations and activities, etc.).

This Project plan introduces new English vocabulary and constructions that may be difficult for the Preschool children. However, I have created the activities to make them understand all this vocabulary and concepts without just memorizing them. I always use movements, show them images or point directly to objects to ease concepts’ comprehension.

It is important to take into account that in the whole project children learn by doing and through playing. I have tried to design the lessons bearing in mind 5 year old kids’ characteristics (cognitive, physic, social and emotional), so in all activities children have to participate, to think and, above all, to experiment with their bodies, with the environment, with new materials and with their partners. I also have tried to simplify sentences so everyone can follow the sessions.

Encouraging storytelling in kindergarten it helps children to stretch their imagination but also when the story is told in a second or third language, it helps to integrate meaningful learning. As a future teacher when doing my Project plan I have understood that storytelling is not just reading a book or a story, is more than that. Storytelling has to involve the children and they learn best I they can take part of the process.

Storytelling subject has been really useful and has helped me to improve my English skills. Now that I’m finishing my fourth year of University, I feel that I have gained more strategies related to the Kindergarten English teaching and in addition, I have known more tools that I’m sure they will help me with my future teaching task. Despite of I couldn’t attend to the classes, I have been in contact with some continuous assessment students so I could have a global idea of what the rest of my classmates were doing and I have tried it to do the maximum work as possible and submit the same tasks like them, so I feel proud of myself on my learning process and all the effort I have made to learn as much as possible.
