An Lanntair’s monthly songwriters circle is an opportunity for island songwriters to try out ideas on each other with no audience, no pressure and no expectations, just a group of kindred spirits who can offer encouragement and support. A chance to share unfinished songs, ask for feedback, and perhaps find someone to collaborate with.
We welcome musicians at any stage in their creative development, from beginners to experienced musicians looking to try out something new.
The songwriters’ circle is hosted by island-based musician Andrew Eaton Lewis.

In October 24 Members of Catch 23 (a drop in centre for those who have experienced mental health issues) submitted work to the Out of Sight Out of Mind exhibition. The exhibition, held in Summerhall Edinburgh, showed artworks made by 310 people who experience mental health issues. Many of whom responded to the theme of In/Visible. The exhibition was also directed by people who experience mental health issues. The Catch 23 submission was facilitated by An Lanntair and consisted of 12 large masks which were painted and adorned on the inside to reflect thoughts, ideas and messages that the individuals wished to communicate. The exhibition on the Mezzanine galley is the work that was submitted to the Out of sight Out of Mind show.

...f you don’t know what he does ask your parents. In his time he has won awards (current total is now officially ‘f**kloads’), forced a politician to resign, changed laws on tax and protest, become Guinness Book of Records world record holder for number of protests in 24 hours, taken the police to court 3 times and won, walked the length of the Israeli Wall in the West Bank and generally mucked about trying to have fun and f**k the right people off. This show is more of the above.

About 4000 people were accused of Witchcraft during the Scottish Witch Hunts, between 1563 & 1736. These people, of whom 85% were women, have been lost to us in history and their stories forgotten. During this course, led by artist Tara M Dakini, participants will learn about the Scottish Witch Hunts and how to find out the names of the women who were accused as Witches in their area. We’ll honour their memory by creating simple memorials decorated with wildflower designs using paper, card and gouache paint, with paper-cutting and pop-up card techniques.
