SLIPPING THROUGH THE NET

Mezzanine Gallery

An exhibition to heighten awareness and challenge stigma around suicide bereavement and mental health issues.

It is the result of an arts project funded by SeeMe Scotland's anti-stigma arts fund and carried out by members of Sarah's Sanctuary suicide bereavement support group.

From May through to November, Jane Harlington of Blue Pig studio helped members of Sarah's Sanctuary create art to help them both remember their loved ones and highlight issues around their deaths. For many bereaved in this way, Slipping Through the Net describes the way existing support networks failed to adequately support the needs of those who struggled with mental health issues and finally died by suicide.

EVEN HERE, EVEN NOW ARTIST GATHERING

An Lanntair’s Artist Gatherings - now part of the Even Here, Even Now programme - are monthly social events for island artists of all disciplines, from music, film and theatre to visual art and design.

Our December gathering will include two special guest artists invited to talk about their work.

You do not need to be an established or professional artist to come along. Everyone is welcome and we are here to support all forms of creativity.

An Lanntair’s FREE monthly songwriters’ circle is an opportunity to share your music with other songwriters. With no audience and no expectations, you can try out new ideas, ask for feedback, and perhaps even find someone new to collaborate with. We welcome musicians at anystage in their creative development, from beginners to experienced musicians looking to try out something new.

During this multi-art form workshop, kids will create their own Polar Express-inspired artwork, explore the sounds of the season by making music, and dive into the story through expressive movement and role-playing activities.

Perfect for young imaginations, this festive workshop (suitable for those age 5 - 8) promises an unforgettable journey to the North Pole, filled with creativity, holiday spirit, and joy. All aboard for a creative Christmas adventure! The workshop will end with hot chocolate (let us know in advance if your child has a food allergy) and children will also be given a copy of The Polar Express book to take home.

EDUCATION

Children and their families can make a special nativity set together from air-drying clay at this fun workshop. Don’t expect to make realistic models, especially if taking part with young children – together you will build a charming characterful set.

Setting it up at home will be a great way of talking about the Christmas story. If you store it safely you’ll be able to use it for years and remember making it together.

Bring a shoebox to take your wet clay models away in. You’ll be given a paint set to take away to paint your models when dry.

FESTIVEWEAVING WORKSHOP

Join textiles artist Catharine Clark of Loom with a View for this festive weaving workshop.

During this workshop we will be making Christmas card weavings that make ideal gifts this festive season, including Christmas cracker mats, bookmarks and wall hangings.
