As we begin 2017… Resolution’s again !!! Let’s not talk about losing weight… even though we should. Let’s not talk about saving money... even though we should. Let’s not talk about exercising... even though we should. Let not talk about changing careers…even though it might be time. Let’s not talk about our dreams… even though we should Let’s not talk about getting married, staying married or life after divorce even though we should. Let’s not talk about ordering our conversation. We live in a society that says be you. Well if being you hurts, wounds, destroys, tears down, judges, or belittles a person this article is for you. Often our conversations were not intended to do those things but it does. How do we fix this without changing our personality? Let us begin I will give you pointers. 1. You must have open and honest communication 2. Our motives must be pure 3. Don’t demand to be understood, but rather seek to understand 4. Our conversations should be controlled by wisdom, not combative, or quarrelsome 5. It is not what you said, but the way you said it that cause problems. 6. Be willing to be wrong, because you could be. 7. Be willing to apologize when others are offended and you know it was not your intent 8. Be a good listener 9. Watch your tone of voice and body language 10. Above all, learn to “let it go” As I conclude this article, think about how you make people feel when they come in your presence. How do they feel when they leave? Words are powerful and once they are said they are out there. Train and discipline yourself to be slow to speak. In every area of your life, you build or destroy based upon your words. Today, pray that your conversation and behavior be controlled by wisdom. “Imagine you are on Pain Island and you desire to get to Pleasure Island. There is a journey to get you there; however, each individual has to become someone else to get to the final destination,” shared Hasani. He then shared a vulnerable moment of when he and Danielle were facing turbulent times in their marriage. Hasani said, “I made the decision to not divorce my wife but to divorce myself. I changed my ways and quit looking outwardly but began to look inwardly out. First marriages have 50% chance of divorce, second marriages 66%, third 75%, I’ll let you decide on the success rate for fourth marriages. Individuals coming out of relationships need a “He-Tox and She-Tox! A time of being alone to become both emotionally and spiritually divorced from their last mate. Couples should focus on marital recovery but also on individual recovery. I use a balance of the two. I have dealt with some of the worst situations in marriages, so I feel that you can recover from almost anything,” said Mr. Pettiford.

“Unless you plan on doing a total gut job,” says designer Wandra Cain, “it’s prudent to take a partial approach. You can accomplish a lot with a little. Here’s something I call a makeover in a day: Use throw pillows in the colors you’d like to try. “The same is true of draperies — changing them is very easy to do. Also, think about lighting. New lamps and shades can transform a space on a budget.” The cost is lower, and this method lets you sample with new looks long enough to get a sense of whether they really work. No matter what you decide, Cain says decluttering improves the appearance of most spaces and makes living quarters seem larger without new construction. She cautions that if you do take the plunge into a big-time 2017 makeover, think twice before you throw out strong, older furniture. “I see people getting rid of these things, and they regret it later,” she says. Even if they’re not valuable antiques, older pieces may be better-made than current equivalents. And their classic forms, finishes and colors may find their way back into your design scheme someday.

God is so amazing and has a sense of humor. You can know someone for years and never realize that God has placed him or her on earth just for you! “It is a fond memory to reflect upon how I discovered Danielle and then realized that she was also my soon to be wife, said Toney.” “Our story began on the sidewalk in front of my gym. She was looking for a barber for her son when I met her for the first time. I asked if I could help and pointed her in the right direction. We spoke briefly and then departed ways. A few months later, I was at church and I saw her and her mom walk through the doors, while I was standing in the isle ushering. For a year, we worshiped, prayed, and studied God’s word in the same church. We were even leaders within the same ministry, and then it happened…said Toney.” They were at a mutual friend’s masquerade birthday celebration for his wife when Toney walked into the party and saw Danielle. “It was an all-white party and I saw her with a white masquerade mask, I knew immediately I wanted to get to know her more. Although I knew I wanted to get to know her, I did not know who her was (laughing). I approached her and began asking questions, she then unveiled herself by lifting her mask and said Toney, it’s me Danielle, said Toney.” Interesting that it took a mask to unveil the beauty and secrecy of what God was doing between Toney and Danielle. Toney asked Danielle to dance and the connection was made, they have been dancing every since. “We’ll always be each other’s favorite dance partner for life!” Toney and Danielle’s love secret is that they have mastered the art of listening to each other and made a commitment to always forgive. On Friday night, February 3, 2017, three leaders, Pastor John F. Hannah, Pastor LeAundrae Bumpus, and Pastor Federick Smith, collaborated to bridge a generational gap in intercessory prayer and spiritual warfare for the Body of Christ. “New Life Holiness C.O.G.I.C.” hosted the event, in which Pastor Frederick & 1st Lady Tina Smith are the visionaries of the house. Scrolling through Facebook earlier that day, I tuned into Pastor John F. Hannah as he mentioned he would be in Memphis, Tennessee along with Pastor LeAundrae Bumpus. I have followed the two enough in their ministries to know that meant “War Room Unplugged” was nearby. Eager with anticipation, I quickly began to gather information as I knew there was no way I was going to miss this opportunity. “War Room Unplugged” holds a special place in my heart even though I had never met any of these mighty Men of God. I made a phone call to Pastor LeAundrae Bumpus, stated that I was in the area, and would love to capture the movement in our upcoming issue of Xcellence Community Magazine. It is not often I get to share a personal story while interviewing
others, but I know that it was a God-ordained and prophetic moment to embrace. God is very intentional, therefore I knew there was no coincidence that I happen to be traveling through Tennessee the same night as this event was taking place. My excitement began to increase because in that moment, I knew God was up to something amazing. I was eager about this interview for several reasons. (1)I was about to meet the young man from Periscope that had already made an impact in my life. I would always grab my phone to just scroll through when I viewed Pastor LeAundrae Bumpus for the first time. He mentioned his ministry was located in Tupelo, Mississippi, right outside of Memphis. Not really sure if it was his southern dialect that caught my attention or the fact that he was relatively close to my hometown in the West Tennessee area. However, I quickly found out later, that it was a setup by God. I distinctly remember just watching and touching and agreeing with him, when I typed the words, “speak man of God” he saw my name scroll through and began to speak prophetically into my life.

About a month later, I tuned in late night again and there Pastor LeAundrae Bumpus was again. This time, he was sharing a vision that God had given him and was asking the viewers to join in and support him as he prepare to deliver it to the world. Per Pastor Bumpus, “I want to have revivals all across the country. I want to turn people’s heart back to God. I want to go to the people of God. His next words were, I need a name.” Everyone became engaged, and began to share names, in that moment, War Room Unplugged was birthed instantly. We then agreed upon the scripture, “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wakeup the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up.” In less than 10 minutes, Pastor Bumpus had created a Facebook page and the movement was active. I have watched his love for God and seen him pray without ceasing relentlessly for hours. God is going to have him shake the world with his powerful anointing. To witness and experience “War Room Unplugged” live and doing what God entrusted Pastor Bumpus to do, is amazing.
The movement is about a year old, yet the fruits from War Room Unplugged have already touched many lives across the country. Pastor LeAundrae’s obedience to God reveals to us that if God releases a vision, he has already made provision for the promise to be fulfilled. Pastor LeAundrae Bumpus knows his position in the Body of Christ, and that is to usher in millennials through intercessory prayer. “Turning Failures into Success”

Failures aren’t always a bad thing. In fact they can be good. As I reflect on my failures, each of them reminds me of how I got closer and closer to my dream simply because I continued to pursue my purpose. There were obstacles and challenges in my life that could have easily caused me to give up, but instead I used those failures as an opportunity to motivate myself and those around me. My pursuit of Xcellence sent a positive message to my friends, family and colleagues that no matter the difficulty or outcome, I will continue to press through, in an attempt to pursue my purpose. If a person is failing, that means they’re moving, that means they’re trying. The only time an individual truly fails, is the day they make up their mind to stop trying. It’s important to not allow failure to de-motivate us. Each time we pursue our dreams, we’re gaining knowledge, and we’re using the process of elimination to push us forward, so we can leap into our destiny. Let Go!
Let God!
As I ponder over this article and what message I am to deliver, a commercial appears and trigger this story. In this commercial, there was a man steadily sinking in quicksand, yet refusing to let go of his cooler. His wife stood on solid ground offering a solution to help him. In the meantime, another man riding a horse comes, takes away the cooler, thereby rescuing him from the quicksand! I thought about that commercial long and hard. At various stages in my life, I have been all three characters in this commercial. I have been the stubborn individual that refused to let go of something or someone, not realizing that by me holding on, was causing me to slowly sink. I have been the person on solid ground trying to help someone out of a situation when they refused to let go of something. I have also been the person on the horse that came along and took the worries, pain or grief from someone and freed them from their ‘quicksand’ dilemma. Who am I now? Depending on the topic or situation, I can be any of the three characters. Who do I want to be is truly the big question! I realize that letting go is not always a bad thing. Letting go of people, things and situations that are of no value can free you from pain, guilt, hurt, grief, and so many other nonproductive emotions. Letting go means you are growing, stepping out on faith, and most importantly, forgiving. Sometimes you have to forgive others, even when they have not asked for it. Oftentimes we must forgive ourselves and get out of our own way. If we continue to hold on to the anger, hurt or pain, we only punish ourselves. “Letting go” can be a form of fear. Many people have different ‘fears’. Many people fear success. I believe that it’s not the fear of success but more the anxiety one feel at the thought of failure. This leads some to procrastinate and others to simply not act at all. Fear causes an individual to never accomplish the things they desire because they believe they will fail--so no need to try. What is holding you back from achieving your goals? What are you willing to let go? Which character are you? Which character do you want to be? We all have or have had baggage, pains, fear, regrets, and thoughts of uncertainty. There is a shift once you make the decision to let go, have faith and PUSH! Rather than peering around life’s’ obstacles, find the strength to knock them down and accomplish those dreams. You can accomplish anything you desire! OR…… Rather than peering around life’s obstacles, use your faith and inner strength to knock them down, move forward and accomplish your dreams. You can accomplish anything you desire! In my quest to seek out Spiritual Leaders for my current community project, God sent me a wonderful, caring, spiritual leader, to share with each of you. Her name is Sonia Farid and she is from Pakistan. Sonia works for God, spreading his word. Sonia’s assignment is to go out and gather all of God’s shepherds and spread his Gospel. Known in the industry as ROY-AL©, he has retired that name and embraced his biological name, Roy Hawkins Jr. To commemorate this new journey, Roy will release this Fall his first book, From ROY-AL© to a Royal Priesthood: Walking Away From a Dream to a Miracle. When asked the question of the main difference in character between the two, Roy stated, “ROYAL© was self-centered and Roy is self-less! I realize that my life is not about using my gifts for me, but to use them to glorify God, because he is the one that gifted them to me. I have learned
humility! I didn’t realize it before, but today I constantly check myself to ensure that I don’t get full of myself. God can and will quickly strip you, which I have experienced in my life, therefore today it’s all about serving him. I moved from selfish to selfless.” Roy recently loss his father in December, 2016. When asked what sentiments of his father he would like to share, he said, “My father was a very creative man and known to keep a smile on his face. He was modest, but gifted with many

talents. I am truly his seed and can see a lot of his characteristics and traits in me. I was able to honor him by opening my art gallery on January 13, 2017, and can now experience a lifetime of inherited memories learned through his teachings, trainings, gifts, demeanor, and outlook on life. Opening the art gallery was a lifelong dream for Roy. He faced opposition as he began to pursue travel exhibitions for his “Vision from Heaven: Paintings from The Revelation of Jesus Christ” series. “I was told no by a couple locations because of the spiritual representation of the art series. However, God is in the blessing and door opening business, and in less than one year from featuring the art series, the RH Studio & Gallery opened and the art series now has a permanent home. The goal of the “Vision from Heaven” art series is to inspire individuals to open up and read their bible, and more specifically to reflect upon the book of Revelations. I have continued plans to travel the country sharing God’s truth through the series,” said Roy.

The art gallery is now open on Tuesdays through Fridays from 4pm – 8pm and on Saturdays from 1pm to 4 pm. Starting in February, private art classes, and parties will begin. In addition, the community can come in and paint portraits to enhance the love of art. Individual customized portraits can also be requested. Although known by many for his artistic abilities, Roy Hawkins Jr. is also an actor. On Monday, February 13, 2017, he will move from a behind the scenes non-verbal role to a lead supporting role with lines. He will be featured in Fatal Attraction, which will be aired on TV One. He chuckled as he mentioned that he will be acting in a scene in which he’s caught up inside of a love triangle. “Anyone who knows me, will truly know that I am a good actor after they view this episode, as the character is very different from who I am,” said Roy. Roy encourages the Xcellence Community audience to follow their dreams and to surround themselves with other individuals pursuing their

Mr. Robert King is the Sr. Marketing Director for World Financial Group (Atlanta, GA) and the owner of King Builders Agency, located in Rockford Illinois. He has over 30 years in the banking and finance industry. With his beautiful wife Ritchla right by his side, he speaks of a turbulent journey to the top. He holds such titles as Sr. Marketing Director with 270 plus associates throughout 10 different states, and has held in the past highest ranked African American for Winnebago County in the banking industry. However, this level of success did not come easy for Robert. “I am a survivor of institutionalized racism. Many days I was made to feel like I did not belong nor that, I was an equal. I did not let the obstacles define me, and I did not grow bitter, I trusted God with it. It pushed me to strive harder, become the best in my industry, work long hours, perfect my gift and craft, educate myself, and develop character and resilience to bounce back from any roadblock that was standing in the way of my success, and what God had ordained me to do,” said Robert.
He became committed to giving back through mentorship, leadership development, and trainings to help others that were also victims of closed-door entry into the financial industry. “The wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just” Proverbs 13:22 and in this scripture is where I define my purpose. Individuals have to realize that if it is laid up for them, it means that they have to go get it. We are asking God for something that is destined to be ours” per Robert. As I sat down to interview Pastor John F. Hannah, I politely asked if we could begin with a moment of prayer, a ritual I do to set the atmosphere, and ensure that I allow God to use me as I present other’s story to the world. Although I have watched Pastor Hannah be very comical as he shares his big personality often, however that night, he was very calm. He mentioned during the interview that in his past he referenced himself as a “Quiet Storm.” I chuckled, but little did I know that he was about to do just that.

said, “Get comfortable with your slate. Walk in your own and toughen up. Be confident in who you are! You may not have the right numbers in the crowd, but all you need is the right set of eyes in the crowd! In the book of Ephesians 3:20, the bible says, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.” As a C.O.G.I.C. baby, and growing up in church all my life, I could remember what it felt like to be in revival and watching the adults hunger after God. I could not understand back then, but today it almost feels obsolete. Services are rushed to usher people in and rush people out. Time was of no essence, only God’s timing and the kairos moment created was relevant. With Pastor John F. Hannah being very comfortable in his slate, he ushered us into intercessory, worship, and adoration for God. He walked us through each level of shifting in the spirit and it wasn’t long thereafter there was travailing and wailing in the spirit. As he shared his testimony of being saved, and receiving the Holy Ghost at the tender age of 17, he began to take us on a journey of how he learned to pray without ceasing for hours. “I was looking for other believers (someone I could click with in
the spiritual realm) and that could house my anointing. I found her, an elderly mother in the grocery store, and we went back to her house and she began to train us on intercessory prayer and its ability to shift any situation and break spiritual warfare,” said Pastor Hannah. It was the gift that keeps on giving, and that Pastor John F. Hannah has been able to perfect over the years, as there was not a dry eye in the place. That night the captives were free, deliverance, forgiveness, and breakthroughs happened in God’s house. I was just honored to be in his presence and to see God move. Pastor John F. Hannah, there was a storm that came through New Life Center that night, but there was nothing about it quiet (smile). Pastor John F.
