Art News from Around the School and Around the World…

And the “Art Star” of the Month is... I’m happy to announce that the “Art Star” award for the month of May goes to Brian C. (Rm. 311). Please assist me in congratulating Brian for all the hard work, creativity, and independence that he has shown over the past month. Brian’s “”Lotus” painting is shown at right. Additional “Lotus” paintings can be seen in last month’s edition of The Andersonian.

USB Art Show

On April 22nd an opening was held to celebrate another group art show by the students of ACA Children’s Art Program and the adult artists of Expressive Outcomes. It took place at the Ulster County Savings Bank (Red Hook, NY). The artists, community members, families, and staff had the chance to enjoy the art on display and create some art of their own. From all accounts, it was a fun evening!! A special “Thank You” goes out to all who made this night possible, including Dora Visbeck (Branch Manager, USB), Neil Pollock (Executive Director), RonDeena Ross (Development), and Mary Doyle (Director of Adult Services). And to all those I may have missed,…. “Thank You!!” Left: “Geometric Design” by Jonathan R. (Rm. 306) Right: “American Flag Sculpture” by Jesse B. (Rm. 118).

“Graduation Booklet Every year students create artwork for inclusion in Anderson Center’s annual Graduation Booklet. In past years students created drawings/paintings with graduation themes (i.e. caps, graduates, school, diplomas, etc.), but for this year’s booklet the theme was “Lotus.”

I am proud to announce that the honor of being featured on the front cover of this year’s Graduation Booklet goes to Vincent G (Rm. 120). Congratulations Vinny—Good Job!

Abstract Paintings These Abstract paintings were created by layering art materials over each other. The first layer applied was crayon, then masking tape was placed on. The second layer was tempera paint. After this dried, an additional third layer of tempera paint was dripped on.
