El circuito LIV Golf vuelve a pisar suelo español, y lo hace de nuevo a lo grande: en Valderrama, uno de los campos más icónicos de Europa. Aquí no solo se juega, se vive el golf. Y eso encaja sorprendentemente bien con la propuesta rupturista de LIV, que combina el deporte con espectáculo, música, ritmo frenético y equipos al más puro estilo F1.
No se juegan cuatro rondas, 54 hoyos son más que suficientes, con los jugadores saliendo al “tiro” todos a la vez. El resultado es una experiencia intensa, ágil y, para muchos, más entretenida. Niemann es un golfista que se toma todo con calma. Aporta una actitud serena y realista a la vida, tanto dentro como fuera del campo.

In August 2022, after winning his second US Tour title, Niemann moved from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf where he was named captain of the Torque GC team. In this league financed by the Saudi Sovereign Wealth Fund, he has racked up six wins, two of them last year and four this season (half of the total number of tournaments he had played this season until June!), in which he is achieving dazzling results never before seen in LIV Golf. Joaquín Niemann met Christina Hellema Puga, an architect and fellow Chilean, in 2017. She has been seen with him on the course at several events, including the Par-3 Masters Tournament. The couple married in September 2023 in his homeland and now live in Jupiter, Florida, a popular place of residence for top professional golfers.

Recuerda haber pegado un golpe a 36 metros durante una barbacoa familiar que le dio a su abuela en la pierna. “Fue un tiro bastante bueno”, dice Niemann, también aliviado de que su abuela saliera ilesa.
Los padres de Niemann siempre han apoyado sus decisiones profesionales. Cuando Joaquín firmó con LIV Golf, Jorge dijo: «Como padre, siempre seguiré apoyándolo en todo lo que haga y espero que sea muy feliz en esta nueva etapa».

At the same time, it is no surprise that Joaquín Niemann has risen to the top in his chosen field, given that sporting excellence runs through his veins. His mother, Pamela, represented Chile in hockey, while his father, Jorge, played college basketball. It was Jorge who gave Joaquin a set of plastic golf clubs when he was just two years old.
By the age of four, young Joaquín was playing with real equipment and learning the game at the San Cristóbal Polo and Riding Club, northeast of the Chilean capital, Santiago.
Sporting excellence runs through his veins: his mother, Pamela, represented Chile in hockey, while his father, Jorge, played college basketball.
He remembers firing a shot at 40 yards during a family barbecue that hit his grandmother in the leg. ‘It was a pretty good shot,’ says Niemann, also relieved that his grandmother was unharmed.
Niemann’s parents have always been supportive of his career decisions. When Joaquin signed with LIV Golf, Jorge said: ‘As a father, I will always continue to support him in everything he does and I hope he will be very happy in this new stage’.

MOMENTOS INOLVIDABLES UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS
El domingo del Open Británico de 1999, Jean Van de Velde estaba en el tee del último hoyo de Carnoustie como líder del torneo disfrutando de una aparentemente inexpugnable ventaja de tres golpes y le quedaban sólo 445 metros por delante para lograr el máximo honor de coronarse campeón. Durante los tres días anteriores, el jugador francés ejecutó un golf impecable y parecía tener totalmente controlado su juego.
On Open Championship Sunday at Carnoustie in 1999 Jean Van de Velde stood on the tee of the final hole holding a seemingly impregnable three-stroke lead and was just 487 yards from achieving the ultimate accolade in golf – being crowned the Open champion. During the previous three days Van de Velde had played flawless golf and appeared to be totally in control of his game.

That was putting it politely! Van de Velde’s golf ball hit the grandstand that ran along the right-hand side of the green, flew backwards and then cannoned off the rocks guarding the Barry Burn before

Explaining his predicament at that stage Jean said, “I couldn’t go backwards; I don’t think I could have done anything. The only thing I could do was hit it hard. Obviously I did not hit it hard enough.”
That comment was true enough as the ball simply flopped forward into the waiting waters of the Burn. The sorry state of affairs which was unfolding before the incredulous and silent spectators then almost turned into farce as Van de Velde took off his shoes and socks and waded gingerly into the water. For a moment it looked as if had taken total leave of his

He played great for 71 holes. I felt sorry for him.” Thankfully the sorry saga was finally concluded when, to his eternal credit, Van de Velde got upand-down from the bunker but the cardwrecking treble-bogey only left him in a four-hole play-off with Justin Leonard and Paul Lawrie and it was the Scot who went on to win the title by three shots after the
extra holes. The set up of the golf course had come in for some severe criticism during the week and in a parting shot at the organisers, although it did him little credit, Davis Love commented sourly, “The Open got the champion it deserved!”
When the dust had settled Van de Velde was inundated with questions from the assembled media, some of whom found it hard to believe that their eyes had not deceived them. In the face of a barrage of questions, some of which bordered on accusations of lunacy, Jean handled the situation with a marvellous sense of humour coupled with a considerable degree of

The official LIV Golf League 2025 schedule consists of 14 tournaments with two titles up for grabs: the Individual Championship and the Team Championship. One of the new features this year is the scoring system for team rankings. Para García, el guión no podía haberse escrito mejor, ya que ganó por primera vez en LIV Golf después de tres derrotas previas en playoff. García, de 44 años entonces, comenzó el día al par del campo, siete golpes por detrás del líder Lahiri. Pero la estrella española jugó un golf impecable durante 17 hoyos, con seis birdies y presionando a Lahiri, que intentaba romper su propia sequía de nueve años sin ganar.

But luck was on the Spaniard’s side this time, and India’s Anirban Lehiri, with victory practically in the bag on his last hole, missed a putt from less than a metre out, setting up a play-off against the Spaniard, both with a total of 5 under par.

‘To be totally honest, there’s a connection between Valderrama and me that I can’t even explain,’ said the Castellón player, who ended a four-year winless streak and claimed his 37th professional title.
García, then 44, started the day at par, seven strokes behind leader Lahiri. But the Spanish star played flawless golf for 17 holes, with six birdies and putting pressure on Lahiri, who was trying to break his own nineyear winless streak.
While García suffered his only bogey of the day with three putts on the par-3 third hole to close his round with a 66 (-5), Lahiri birdied his penultimate hole, the iconic par-5 17th. This put the tournament in the Indian player’s hands ahead of his final challenge, the 18th, the most difficult hole on the course that week.
Lahiri found the centre of the green with his approach shot and rolled his birdie attempt to within 90 centimetres to set up a potential winning par. But with the chance to win the individual title and also secure the team title for the Crushers, he missed the putt and, with a final round of 73, fell back to -5 and a double playoff was set.
García was returning to the clubhouse in
a van at that moment. ‘Obviously, we heard the crowd go crazy, so we thought he might have missed his par putt,’ he said. ‘It was nice to have another chance.’
The Spaniard and Lahiri made par on their first playoff hole. Meanwhile, in the team playoff just behind them, DeChambeau ran into trouble on the 18th tee and had to take his second shot. Casey’s approach ended up in the rough behind the green. DeChambeau bogeyed the hole, while Ancer and Puig both made par to secure the Fireballs’ first team victory of the season.
Like his captain, Lahiri made a mistake on the second playoff hole that put him in trouble, and Garcia won with a par as his teammates and family rushed onto the green to shower him with champagne.
‘Obviously [the individual title] is a dream come true for me on my favourite course in front of my family and friends and in front of my teammates,’ said the champion. ‘But to make it even better by winning the team championship as well has been incredible. I’m really proud of how they played (his teammates).’ ■

La rotación externa del hombro del jugador y la capacidad de mantener la estabilidad escapular en la postura de golf es clave para poder lograr un swing eficiente y consistente. Normalmente cuando la rotación externa está limitada, los jugadores pierden rango de movimiento en la postura de golf debido a una falta de estabilidad escapular que está íntimamente relacionada con la rotación externa y esta a su vez con toda la mecánica de la escápula, la movilidad de la columna tanto dorsal como torácica y la musculatura de los rotadores.
A los jugadores con una rotación externa de hombro muy limitada se los detecta fácilmente al observar su postura o stance, suelen presentar hombros adelantados, cifosis (curvatura muy pronunciada), postura en C en el stance de golf, cabeza adelantada, además de tener mayores probabilidades de cometer errores técnicos relacionados con esta limitación y que pueden ser:
1. Pérdida de postura.
2. Ala de pollo.
3. Ángulo contrario a la espalda.
4. Extensión anticipada.
Por otro lado, la limitación en la rotación externa puede ser la consecuencia de otros factores como: inestabilidad escapular, rotadores internos híper desarrollados (muy tensos), tensión capsular, lesión o debilidad en en los rotadores externos o debilidad muscular en la escapular.
A continuación te muestro algunos ejercicios relacionados con estos factores:
T he external rotation of the player’s shoulder and the ability to maintain scapular stability in the golf stance is key to achieving an efficient and consistent swing. Normally, when external rotation is limited, players lose range of motion in the golf stance due to a lack of scapular stability, which is closely related to external rotation and, in turn, to the entire mechanics of the scapula, the mobility of both the thoracic and lumbar spine, and the rotator muscles.
Players with very limited external shoulder rotation are easily detected by observing their posture or stance. They tend to have forward shoulders, kyphosis (very pronounced curvature), a C-shaped posture in the golf stance, and a forward head, as well as being more likely to make technical errors related to this limitation, which may include:
1. Loss of posture.
2. Chicken wing.
3. Reverse spine angle
4. Early extension.
On the other hand, limited external rotation can be the result of other factors such as: scapular instability, overdeveloped internal rotators (very tense), capsular tension, injury or weakness in the external rotators, or muscle weakness in the scapula.
Here are some exercises related to these factors:

EJERCICIO PARA MEJORAR LA ESTABILIDAD ESCAPULAR
Retracción escapular tumbado prono «W»: Colócate tumbado boca abajo (posición prona) con los brazos en posición de letra «W» y los dedos pulgares apuntando hacia arriba (posición OK), pon la frente apoyada en colchoneta o cojín si necesitas alinear la zona cervical, es importante que la columna cervical esté lo más alineada posible con la columna dorsal. Desde la posición inicial realiza una retracción escapular (imagina que quieres juntar las escápulas y a su vez estirar la zona del pecho), manteniendo los dedos en posición ok.
EXERCISE TO IMPROVE SCAPULAR STABILITY
Prone scapular retraction ‘W’: Lie face down (prone position) with your arms in a ‘W’ position and your thumbs pointing upwards (OK position). Rest your forehead on a mat or cushion if you need to align your cervical area. It is important that your cervical spine is as aligned as possible with your thoracic spine. From the starting position, perform a scapular retraction (imagine that you want to bring your shoulder blades together while stretching your chest), keeping your fingers in the OK position.

EJERCICIO PARA LIBERAR ROTADORES INTERNOS
Estiramiento de dorsales con foam: Siéntate sobre los talones (si llegas y si no hay dolor, pero sino puedes deja los glúteos más arriba), apoya las manos en un foam (también puede ser un fitball). Inhalar por la nariz. Desde la posición inicial desliza el foam o pelota (fitball) lo más lejos que puedas, sin despegar los glúteos de los talones (o sin desplazar la pelvis). Exhalas al alejar el foam.
EXERCISE TO RELEASE INTERNAL ROTATORS
Back stretch with foam roller: Sit on your heels (if you can reach them and there is no pain, but if not, keep your glutes higher), rest your hands on a foam roller (a fitball can also be used). Inhale through your nose. From the starting position, slide the foam roller or ball as far away as you can without lifting your buttocks off your heels (or moving your pelvis). Exhale as you move the foam roller away.

90/90 Rotación externa de hombros: Colócate tumbado supino con los dos brazos flexionados a noventa grados (codos alineados con hombros y muñecas con codos) y las piernas flexionadas. Inhalas por boca. Desde la posición inicial realiza con ambos brazos a la vez una rotación externa (foto), de manera lenta y controlada. evitando que se levanten los hombros (intenta mantenerlos estables en todo momento, igual que en la posición inicial). Exhalas por boca en cada rotación.

90/90 External shoulder rotation: Lie on your back with both arms bent at 90 degrees (elbows aligned with shoulders and wrists with elbows) and legs bent. Inhale through your mouth. From the starting position, perform an external rotation with both arms at the same time (photo), slowly and in a controlled manner, avoiding lifting your shoulders (try to keep them stable at all times, as in the starting position). Exhale through your mouth with each rotation.

La articulación del hombro suele estar frecuentemente expuesta a lesiones en el golf por razones anatómicas y por la calidad del swing. Una de las razones principales es su estructura inestable: la cabeza del húmero es una semiesfera mucho más grande que la cavidad escapular que la acoge, y la musculatura que rodea el hombro, o manguito rotador, no siempre tiene un tono muscular adecuado para garantizar la estabilidad necesaria. (Foto 1)
Debido mayormente a esta última razón, las mujeres son más propensas a tener dolores de hombro que los hombres, agravado por técnica pobre (overswing), uso equivocado de la fuerza para obtener distancia y debilidad osteoarticular (osteoporosis, artrosis, osteopenia, etc.).
Los movimientos potencialmente lesivos a evitar durante el swing de golf son:
• Manos más altas que la altura de la cabeza, tanto en el backswing como en el finish (foto 2).
• Excesiva velocidad después del impacto.
• Entrenamiento prolongado en la moqueta.
• Elevada presión en el grip.
El dolor suele presentarse por encima del hombro o a lo largo del brazo, en su cara posterior, debido a una presión nerviosa (foto 3).
El primer socorro incluye:
• Descanso entre 3 y 7 días.
• Evitar coger pesos.
• Evitar dormir en el lado que duele.
• Aplicar hielo durante 10 minutos, 2 veces al día.
• Analgésicos durante 3 días, según prescripción médica.
• Evitar elevar el brazo por encima de la cabeza.
A partir de los 30-35 años, el cuerpo empieza a per der calidad en los tejidos (huesos, músculos, tendones y ligamentos) y hay que añadir en nuestro día a día una rutina de prevención:
• Musculación específica según la actividad depor tiva que se practica.
• Suplementación de calidad.
• Descanso entre actividades.
The shoulder joint is frequently exposed to injury in golf for both anatomical reasons and swing quality.
One of the main reasons is its unstable structure: the humeral head is a much larger hemisphere than the scapular cavity that houses it, and the musculature surrounding the shoulder, or rotator cuff, does not always have adequate muscle tone to ensure the necessary stability (photo 1)
Mostly due to the latter reason, women are more prone to shoulder pain than men, aggravated by poor technique (overswing), wrong use of force to obtain distance and osteoarticular weakness (osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, osteopenia, etc.).
Potentially injurious movements to avoid during the golf swing are:
• Hands higher than head height, both in the backswing and in the finish (photo 2)
• Excessive speed after impact.
• Prolonged training on the carpet.
• High pressure on the grip.
Pain usually occurs above the shoulder or along the arm, on the back of the arm, due to nerve pressure (photo 3)
First aid includes:
Rest for 3 to 7 days.
• Avoid lifting weights.
• Avoid sleeping on the painful side.
• Apply ice for 10 minutes, twice a day.
• Painkillers for 3 days, according to medical prescription.
• Avoid raising the arm above the head.
Si en una semana el dolor no disminuye, sugiero acudir a un traumatólogo o a un fisioterapeuta deportivo para evaluar la situación y evitar ulteriores daños (foto 4).
También es muy recomendable evaluar la técnica del swing para descartar que sea esta misma la causa del problema.
Como hemos visto, la articulación del hombro es compleja y delicada al mismo tiempo, así que no descuides ninguna molestia y busca remedios a los primeros síntomas. La prevención es la clave de la salud (foto 5).
En todos casos, recuerda: “Siéntete mejor, vive y juega mejor”. ¡Buen golf! ■

Siempre en el mundo de la enseñanza , en 2010 se involucró en un proyecto internacional en Sicilia, donde estuvo muy vinculado a los equipos y entranadores nacionales de Italia.
Con un Master en Dirección y Gestión en Campos de Golf, David ha trabajado en Operaciones de Golf en los mejores campos de Andalucía, hasta que en 2018 se incorpora al proyecto de Villa Padierna Golf Academy by Michael Campbell.
En 2021, David decide crear su propia academia de golf, DG GOLF ACADEMY, con base en Marbella y recientemente en Suiza.
En la actualidad, David es profesional del Club de Golf La Cañada, en Sotogrande.
DAVID GIL was 19 when, in 1998, he started working as a golf professional in Almenara (Sotogrande), creating the first CAR academy in Andalucía.
He subsequently travelled to England where he worked at the David Leadbetter Academy. On his return, he created the Sotogrande Junior Golf School, where players who went on to become top professionals have been coached.
Always linked to education, in 2010 he became involved in an international project in Sicily, where he was closely associated with Italy’s national teams and coaches.
With a masters degree in management and golf course management, David worked in golf operations for Andalucía’s leading courses. In 2018 he joined “TGA Golf Academy by Michael Campbell”. In summer 2021, he created his own golf academy, DG GOLF ACADEMY, based in Marbella and Switzerland. Currently, David is a professional at the La Cañada Golf Club in Sotogrande.

A la hora de analizar las claves para tener más consistencia alrededor del green, tras ver a lo largo de mi trayectoria como profesor a muchos alumnos tanto en sus prácticas como en el campo, tendríamos que diferenciar por niveles de hándicap, pero en general, y hablando de jugadores principiantes, he visto que la gran diferencia entre adultos y niños es que los jugadores adultos saben apreciar las distancias pero cometen muchos fallos técnicos. Los niños tienen menos control de distancia, pero suelen hacer el swing con más técnica.
Por este motivo y tratando de generalizar, la práctica en estos dos casos se tendría que planificar de forma diferente.
En el caso de jugadores adultos, habría que trabajar la técnica más en el campo de prácticas. Pero en el caso de niños, la práctica alrededor del green habría que plantearla a través de juegos, con herramientas tipo conos o tees, para que desarrollen más el control de las distancias sin dejar de lado la técnica (pero siempre en modo juego y sin que utilicen palos diferentes). Un solo palo para golpes diferentes al principio es lo que más les puede ayudar.
¿QUÉ ES EL OVER THE TOP?
Este es un fallo tan común que prácticamente el 90% de los alumnos que tenemos en la escuela lo ha experimentado en algún momento de su trayectoria golfística. Digamos que comúnmente lo llamamos BAJAR POR FUERA. Las consecuencias de este error son bastante perjudiciales para el juego, ya que podemos producir trayectorias tan diferentes que a los jugadores pueden incluso confundirles, ya que podemos mandar bolas directamente a la izquierda y por otro lado golpear bolas con efectos de slices y que la bola termine totalmente a la derecha.
Los motivos de este error se centran en un fallo de coordinación en el inicio de la bajada, pero el error no estaría solo en ese punto. Paso a explicarlo. Lo primero que tendríamos que tener en cuenta sería la colocación delante de la bola. Los jugadores que cometen este error se suelen colocar con una postura que denominamos POSTURA ABIERTA. Esto significa que HOMBROS, CADERAS Y PIES apuntan a la izquierda del objetivo y la cara del palo estaría apuntando más a la derecha del cuerpo.
When analysing the keys to achieving greater consistency around the green, after observing many students throughout my career as a teacher, both on the practice range and on the course, we would have to differentiate by handicap level, but in general, and speaking of beginner players, I have seen that the big difference between adults and children is that adult players know how to judge distances but make many technical mistakes.
Children have less distance control, but they tend to swing with better technique. For this reason, and trying to generalise, practice in these two cases should be planned differently.
In the case of adult players, technique should be worked on more on the driving range. But in the case of children, practice around the green should be approached through games, using tools such as cones or tees, so that they develop more control over distances without neglecting technique (but always in game mode and without using different clubs). A single club for different shots at the beginning is what can help them the most.
This is such a common mistake that practically 90% of the students we have at the school have experienced it at some point in their golfing career. Let’s say we commonly call it SWINGING OUTSIDE.
The consequences of this mistake are quite detrimental to the game, as we can produce such different trajectories that players can even get confused, as we can send balls directly to the left and on the other hand hit balls with slice effects and the ball ends up completely to the right.
The reasons for this mistake are mainly due to a lack of coordination at the start of the downswing, but the mistake is not only at that point.
Let me explain. The first thing we need to consider is the position in front of the ball. Players who make this mistake tend to adopt what we call an OPEN STANCE. This means that the SHOULDERS, HIPS AND FEET are pointing to the left of the target and the face of the club is pointing more to the right of the body.
1. COLOCACIÓN A LA BOLA
Aconsejo que pidáis ayuda a algún amigo para que se coloque justo detrás de vosotros para que antes de comenzar vuestro golpe mire si los hombros, la cadera y el pie izquierdo están más adelantados que la parte derecha. Si lo están, significa que comenzaréis el movimiento ligeramente ya girados: esta postura sería la correcta.
Vuestro brazo izquierdo en la colocación estará visible y no tapado por el derecho. Esto lo puede ver vuestro ayudante desde detrás claramente.
Por último, evitad colocaros la bola muy al pie izquierdo.
2. LA SUBIDA
Al final de la clase, os pondré varios ejercicios para que podáis practicar. Lo importante es que conozcáis la técnica. LOS BRAZOS SIGUEN A LOS HOMBROS
Este tema es clave. Muchas veces pensamos en dejar tan quieto el cuerpo que llegamos a bloquearlo, y en un buen swing de golf los hombros hay que moverlos. El cuerpo tiene que girar y, para que esto ocurra, lo primero que tendremos que mover para subir bien el palo son los hombros y posteriormente los brazos comienzan su subida. Si lo hacemos así, el palo no subirá por fuera.
Ejercicio básico: Pon una varilla a escasos 2-3 centímetros de la bola para que el palo no pueda superarla ni al subir ni al bajar.

1. POSITIONING AT THE BALL
I recommend asking a friend to stand directly behind you before you start your swing to check that your shoulders, hips and left foot are more ahead than the right side. If they are, it means that you will start the movement slightly turned: this is the correct stance.
Your left arm should be visible and not covered by your right arm. Your assistant should be able to see this clearly from behind.
Finally, avoid placing the ball too close to your left foot.
2. THE BACKSWING
At the end of the lesson, I will give you several exercises to practise. The important thing is that you understand the technique.
THE ARMS FOLLOW THE SHOULDERS
This is a key point. We often think about keeping our body so still that we end up blocking it, but in a good golf swing, the shoulders need to move. The body has to turn, and for this to happen, the first thing we need to move to raise the club properly is the shoulders, and then the arms begin their upward movement. If we do this, the club will not rise outside the body.
Basic exercise: Place a rod 2-3 centimetres from the ball so that the club cannot pass it either when going up or down.

Este es un punto critico, ya que podemos colocarnos bien, podemos subir bien, pero si en este punto no tenemos claro cuál es la secuencia correcta, será muy probable que el palo baje por fuera y hagamos
- Golpes con pull (bola recta a la izquierda)
- Golpes con slice (bola que sale con efecto de izquierda a derecha)
Si la colocación es la correcta y la subida esta realizada con un buen giro para que el palo no vaya por fuera, en el tope de subida nuestro palo estaría bien colocado y será el momento de conocer la secuencia de nuestra bajada.
¿Cuál es la secuencia de la bajada?
Pensad lo siguiente: cuando estás colocado al inicio del swing, nuestro pecho esta apuntando al frente; cuando subimos, nuestro pecho estaría apuntando a la derecha, pues cuando comenzamos a bajar tendríamos QUE MANTENER NUESTRO PECHO APUNTANDO A ESE MISMO LUGAR y tirar de nuestros brazos sin cambiar el cuerpo de posición.
Lo primero que movemos al bajar son los brazos. Si tiramos del cuerpo antes, bajaremos por fuera, si tiramos de brazos y cuerpo a la vez, también bajaremos por fuera.

This is a critical point, because we can position ourselves well and raise the club correctly, but if we are not clear about the correct sequence at this point, the club will most likely come down on the outside and we will end up with
- Pull shots (ball straight to the left)
- Slice shots (ball with a left-to-right spin)
If the positioning is correct and the upward swing is performed with a good turn so that the club does not go outside, at the top of the upward swing our club will be well positioned and it will be time to learn the sequence of our downward swing.
What is the sequence of the downswing?
Think about the following: when you are positioned at the start of the swing, your chest is pointing forward; when you swing up, your chest would be pointing to the right, so when you start to swing down, you MUST KEEP YOUR CHEST POINTING IN THE SAME DIRECTION and swing your arms without changing the position of your body.
The first thing we move when we swing down is our arms. If we pull our body first, we will swing down on the outside; if we pull our arms and body at the same time, we will also swing down on the outside.
1.-Hacer swing delante de un muro. Tanto en la subida, como en la bajada, el palo se tendrá que mantener lejos del muro, sin tocarlo.
2.-Clavar varilla en dirección al objetivo y poner la bola debajo.
El palo no podrá tocar la varilla ni al subir ni al bajar.
Para este error tan común, tenemos varios ejercicios que podéis entrenar en el campo de prácticas.
- BOLSA DE IMPACTO
La bolsa de impacto colocada pegada a la bola y tratar que el palo pase sin tocarla
- DAR BOLAS EN PENDIENTE ASCENDENTE
Nosotros usamos rampas para que el cuerpo comience a rotar. La idea es golpear sin tocar la rampa.
- PONER UN OBJETO (bola, tee o botella) justo después de la bola.
Golpear sin tocar el objeto. Así veras si la trayectoria del palo es en línea o hacia dentro.
1-2: Subir y bajar sin tocar la bolsa de impacto
3-4: Golpear la bola sin que el palo golpee la rampa
5-6: No toca el objeto delante de tu bola al golpear
7-8-9: Subir y bajar manteniendo el palo lejos del muro

The club must not touch the rod either when going up or down.
For this common mistake, we have several exercises that you can practise on the driving range.
We use ramps so that the body begins to rotate. The idea is to hit without touching the ramp.
- PLACE AN OBJECT (ball, tee or bottle) just behind the ball.
Hit without touching the object. This will show you if the club’s trajectory is straight or inward.
Ha cumplido ya las bodas de plata como director de uno de los clubes más populares y prestigiosos de la Costa del Sol: Atalaya Golf & Country Club. Andrés Sánchez nació en Bélgica, donde residió hasta que, veinteañero, sintió la llamada de su otra patria (y del Ejército) y vino a España para realizar el Servicio Militar Obligatorio.
Tuvo sus primeros escarceos con el golf trabajando en un campo belga que se había construido sobre un antiguo vertedero.
Tras su formación militar, fue contratado por el Hotel Atalaya, propiedad entonces del campo de golf del mismo nombre, y después trabajó en la Exposición Universal de 1992 en Sevilla. Tras un corto periodo de tiempo en el que regresó a Bélgica, volvió a España y fue fichado de nuevo en el Hotel Atalaya de cara a la Ryder Cup del 97. Dos años después empezaba su largo periplo laboral como director gerente en Atalaya Golf & Country Club.

–¿Cree que Atalaya Golf & Country Club, con sus dos campos, es un referente en la Costa del Sol?
–Sí, creo que Atalaya Golf & Country Club se ha consolidado como un referente en la Costa del Sol. Su ubicación privilegiada, la calidad de sus instalaciones, el excelente mantenimiento de ambos recorridos —Old Course y New Course— y la atención al cliente lo convierten en un destino muy valorado tanto por jugadores locales como internacionales. Además, el club combina tradición y modernización constante, lo que le permite mantenerse competitivo en una región con una amplia oferta de campos de golf de alto nivel.
–Básicamente, ¿qué diferencias existen entre un recorrido y otro?
–Ambos campos ofrecen experiencias distintas y complemen-
tarias. El Old Course destaca por su diseño más clásico, calles amplias y árboles maduros, lo que lo hace muy agradable de jugar para todo tipo de golfistas, aunque sigue siendo un reto estratégico. Es un recorrido más plano y accesible, ideal también para caminar. El New Course, en cambio, es más moderno y técnico, con cambios de elevación, calles más estrechas y greenes más exigentes. Ofrece vistas espectaculares y representa un reto mayor para los jugadores con más experiencia o que buscan un juego más competitivo. En este recorrido se tomó la decisión de cambiar los greenes a Bermuda, una variedad de hierba más resistente. Esto ha dado como resultado unos greenes en muy buen estado, con una forma distinta de recibir la bola y de patear, ofreciendo una experiencia de juego diferente y más adaptada a las condiciones actuales.

Yes, I believe that Atalaya Golf & Country Club has established itself as a benchmark on the Costa del Sol. Its privileged location, the quality of its facilities, the excellent maintenance of both courses —Old Course and New Course— and its customer service make it a highly valued destination for both local and international players. In addition, the club combines tradition and constant modernisation, which allows it to remain competitive in a region with a wide range of high-level golf courses.

Basically, what are the differences between one course and the other?
Both courses offer different and complementary experiences. The Old Course stands out for its more classic design, wide fairways and mature trees, making it very enjoyable to play for all types of golfers, although it remains a strategic challenge. It is a flatter and more accessible course, also ideal for walking.
The New Course, on the other hand, is more modern and technical, with elevation changes, narrower fairways and more demanding greens. It offers spectacular views and represents a greater challenge for more experienced players or those looking for a more competitive game. On this course, the decision was made to change the greens to Bermuda, a more resistant variety of grass. This has resulted in greens in very good condition, with a different shape for receiving the ball and putting, offering a different playing experience that is more suited to current conditions.

Aunque su diseño clásico sigue siendo muy apreciado, estamos convencidos de que, para mantener y reforzar su estatus entre los mejores campos de la región, es necesario evolucionar sin perder su esencia.

In recent years, you have carried out significant renovations and improvements. Do you plan to continue investing to
improve the facilities and the two courses?
In recent years, Atalaya Golf & Country Club has made significant improvements to its courses and facilities, and we remain firmly committed to ongoing investment to enhance the quality and sustainability of the club.
Upcoming projects include the renovation of the green bunkers on the New Course, where a new drainage system and a special rubber cement base will be installed to improve performance in heavy rain, as well as new sand being applied to all of them.
The pumping stations on both courses will also be completely renovated, resulting in energy savings of 10-15%. At the same time, we are creating mulch areas in out-of-bounds areas with the aim of reducing reclaimed water consumption and maintenance.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, a second solar park is being built to improve energy efficiency, and we have introduced beehives to encourage pollination in new areas reseeded with native flora, selected for their low water requirements, thus contributing to a more environmentally friendly and climate-friendly environment.

The Old Course will soon be celebrating its 60th anniversary. What do you think it needs, if anything, to maintain its status as one of the best courses on the Costa del Sol?
–The Old Course is approaching its 60th anniversary as one of the most iconic courses on the Costa del Sol and, precisely for this reason, we believe that its legacy must be cared for with a view to the future.
Although its classic design is still highly appreciated, we are convinced that, in order to maintain and reinforce its status among the best courses in the region, it is necessary to evolve without losing its essence. That is why we have initiated the management of a comprehensive master plan that will set the roadmap for the next 25 years of Atalaya Golf.
Por eso hemos iniciado la gestión de un master plan integral que marcará la hoja de ruta para los próximos 25 años de Atalaya Golf.
Este plan contempla una serie de mejoras estratégicas en diseño, sostenibilidad, accesibilidad y experiencia de juego, con el objetivo de adaptar el recorrido a las nuevas demandas de los jugadores modernos, tanto en lo deportivo como en lo medioambiental. No se trata de cambiar lo que funciona, sino de optimizar lo que se puede mejorar, siempre con respeto por la historia del campo y su valor paisajístico.
En definitiva, queremos que el Old Course no solo mantenga su reputación, sino que siga siendo un referente para las futuras generaciones de golfistas.
–Para el New Course cuentan también con “un plan estratégico de mejoras”. ¿En qué consiste este plan?
–El “plan estratégico de mejoras” para el New Course incluye varias acciones clave para optimizar la experiencia de juego y la sostenibilidad del recorrido. Ampliamos los caminos de buggy para mayor comodidad, ensancharemos los greenes de Bermuda y trataremos las zonas afectadas por hierba mala para mantener la calidad del césped. Además recebaremos las calles con arena e instalaremos drenajes para mejorar en todo el recorrido.
Los green bunkers se renovarán con un sistema de drenaje avanzado y arena nueva.
Este plan asegura la mejora continua del campo, promoviendo la sostenibilidad y adaptando el recorrido a las necesidades de los jugadores modernos.

–¿Cómo lleva la temporada en cuanto a ocupación y que previsiones tiene hasta fin de año?
–La temporada ha sido positiva, aunque las lluvias de febrero y marzo obligaron a cerrar los campos varios días, reduciendo los ingresos por green fees. Sin embargo, estamos recuperándonos y los green fees han aumentado en los últimos meses.
Para el verano, esperamos una mayor ocupación por turismo nacional, por lo que ofreceremos green fees ilimitados para dos semanas, un mes, dos meses y tres meses a precios muy competitivos, permitiendo disfrutar de nuestros campos a un excelente precio.
Seguimos optimistas para el resto del año, con un aumento de la ocupación en los meses de invierno del turismo nórdico. Estamos comprometidos con mantener un servicio de alta calidad y seguir implementando mejoras sostenibles para asegurar la mejor experiencia para todos.

–¿Estamos alcanzando techo en cuanto al número de salidas en la Costa del Sol? ¿Cree que podríamos morir de éxito?

The ‘strategic improvement plan’ for the New Course includes several key actions to optimise the playing experience and the sustainability of the course.
We are widening the buggy paths for greater comfort, enlarging the Bermuda greens and treating areas affected by poor grass to maintain the quality of the turf. We will also resand the fairways and install drainage to improve the entire course.
The green bunkers will be renovated with an advanced drainage system and new sand.
This plan ensures the continuous improvement of the course, promoting sustainability and adapting the course to the needs of modern players.

How is the season going in terms of occupancy and what are your forecasts for the rest of the year?
The season has been positive, although the rains in February and March forced us to close the courses for several days, reducing green fee revenue. However, we are recovering and green fees have increased in recent months.
For the summer, we expect higher occupancy from domestic tourism, so we will be offering unlimited green fees for two weeks, one month, two months and three months at very competitive prices, allowing visitors to enjoy our courses at an excellent price.
We remain optimistic for the rest of the year, with an increase in occupancy in the winter months from Nordic tourism. We are committed to maintaining a high-quality service and continuing to implement sustainable improvements to ensure the best experience for everyone.

Are we reaching a ceiling in terms of the number of tee times on the Costa del Sol? Do you think we could die of success?
Demand for golf on the Costa del Sol remains high, but we don’t believe we are reaching a ceiling. While it is true that there is a lot of competition for tee times, the region remains a top destination thanks to its wonderful climate, which allows golfers to enjoy their sport all year round.
Rather than ‘dying of success’, we need to focus on adapting to the new demands of golfers by offering new promotions and infrastructure improvements, ensuring a unique experience and efficiently managing tee times to maintain the quality of service. ■

El tee del hoyo 1 está muy cerca de la Academia y Campo de prácticas; puede ser una buena opción calentar dando algunas bolas antes de enfrentarse al recorrido.
Cada hoyo es diferente, pero destacamos el primer par 3, el hoyo 4, con una salida en alto desde la que vemos un green muy generoso tras un lago que ocupa todo el frente. Otro hoyo muy interesante es el 6, un par 5 que gira a la izquierda y con dos niveles, uno superior en la parte derecha, por donde conviene ir y otro mucho más abajo por la izquierda que complica mucho el hoyo. El hoyo 7 que le sigue es un interesante par 4 muy corto en bajada al que se puede llegar al green de un solo golpe.
En la segunda vuelta nos encontramos dos pares 3 seguidos muy diferentes entre sí. El hoyo 12 con mucho desnivel en bajada y el 13, medianamente largo y ➠

The Old Course dates back to 1968, making it one of the oldest on the Costa del Sol, while the New Course was inaugurated in 1990, completing this duo of very different and interesting courses.
The members of this fantastic club appreciate having two courses available, ensuring they can always play on one if the other is occupied by an event or undergoing maintenance. They also value how different the two layouts are, which guarantees variety and enjoyment.
As mentioned, the New Course is a strategic course that requires you to think through every shot rather than just step up to the tee and swing away.
The first tee is very close to the Academy and practice range, making it a good idea to warm up with a few balls before taking on the course.
Each hole is different, but some highlights include the first par-3 4th, with a raised tee offering a view of a generous green behind a lake that spans the entire front. Another interesting hole is the par-5 6th, that doglegs left and has two distinct levels—a higher right-hand side that is the better route, and a much lower left-hand side that makes the hole considerably more difficult. The 7th is a short, downhill par 4 that can be reached in one shot.
On the back nine, there are two very different consecutive par 3s. The 12th features a steep downhill shot, while the 13th is moderately long, set among trees, and plays to an elevated green. The 14th is a par 5 that first turns right and then left, where accuracy—like on most holes on this unique cour- ➠

Es una apuesta de futuro que ya se ha implementado con éxito en campos como Finca Cortesín, la Hacienda Alcaidesa Links y Añoreta, entre los de la Costa del Sol y que seguro que dará greenes consistentes y de gran calidad y velocidad en cuanto maduren,teniendo en cuenta que el verano de 2025 será su primer verano desde que se establecieron, siendo que este tipo de hierba se desarrolla de forma óptimas en condiciones de calor.

After numerous and significant investments in the main course, it was time for the New Course to undergo an ambitious improvement plan. The bunkers are being renovated, with improved drainage and new sand, but the most significant change has been to the greens.
The new greens, renovated at the end of 2024, feature Bermuda grass, perfectly suited to hotter temperatures and lower rainfall. Most importantly, they are far more resistant to the salinity of the recycled water used for irrigation. This is a future-focused move that has already proven successful on courses like Finca Cortesín, La Hacienda Alcaidesa Links, and Añoreta—all on the Costa del Sol—and promises consistent, high-quality, and fast greens once matured. The summer of 2025 will be their first full summer, and this type of grass thrives in warm conditions.

The three winners in each category (First and Second) and the scratch winner of each event will earn a place in the Circuit Grand Final on 20 September at San Roque Golf & Resort. Registration was completed a week in advance and there was a waiting list of players who were unable to participate.

Destacable el gran nivel de juego entre los participantes, con 18 jugadores por debajo de handicap 5.
La entrega fue presentada por el director del Club de Golf La Cañada, Jaime Ravina. Todos los premiados tuvieron regalos de vinos del Grupo La Navarra y prendas de golf de la mejor tienda de Marbella, Fairway + Blue.

El campo de Azata Golf, en Estepona, fue brillante escenario de una nueva y destacada prueba del Circuito. La jornada reunió a un gran número de jugadores, que compitieron en formato Individual Stableford en condiciones que, pese a las lluvias previas, permitieron un buen desarrollo del juego.

The tournament began at 7:40 a.m. in order of handicap, with tee times every 9 minutes until 9 a.m., after which tee times were every 10 minutes. Thanks to this and the punctuality of the tee times, all 174 players finished in daylight, just before the change to daylight saving time.
Once again, the club restaurant offered a fantastic cocktail reception prior to the prize-giving ceremony and the draw for gifts.
San Miguel beer and Solán de Cabras water were served on the course and at the prize-giving cocktail reception. At the 14th tee, players were presented with a gift from Hospital Recoletas, which was promoting its facilities in Marbella.
The high standard of play among the participants was remarkable, with 18 players
below handicap 5.
The presentation was hosted by the director of La Cañada Golf Club, Jaime Ravina. All the winners received gifts of wine from Grupo La Navarra and golf clothing from Marbella’s best shop, Fairway + Blue.

Por primera vez, el Circuito San Miguel XV Andalucía Golf Challenge Costa del Sol destino República Dominicana by Globalia recaló en el magnífico recorrido de La Envía Golf, situado en el corazón de Aguadulce, en la Costa de Almería. Un campo técnico, desafiante y perfectamente presentado para una jornada que brilló por su clima excelente: sin viento y con temperatura ideal.
Es de destacar especialmente la excelente acogida del equipo de La Envía, con mención destacada a su director, José Antonio López Pérez, por su profesionalidad y cercanía. Algunos participantes se alojaron en el Hotel La Envía, disfrutando de sus completas instalaciones y un relajante SPA antes o después de competir.
El torneo comenzó con una salida al tiro a las 9:00 horas y culminó con una estupenda barbacoa durante la entrega de premios, que sirvió como broche perfecto a una jornada memorable.

For the first time, the San Miguel XV Andalucía Golf Challenge Costa del Sol destination Dominican Republic by Globalia came to the magnificent La Envía Golf course, located in the heart of Aguadulce, on the Almería coast. A technical, challenging and perfectly presented course for a day that shone thanks to the excellent weather: no wind and ideal temperatures.
The excellent welcome from the La Envía team was particularly noteworthy, with special mention going to its director, José Antonio López Pérez, for his professionalism and friendliness. Some participants stayed at the Hotel La Envía, enjoying its comprehensive facilities and relaxing spa before or after competing.
The tournament culminated with a wonderful barbecue during the awards ceremony, which served as the perfect ending to a memorable day.

The prestigious Real Club Sevilla Golf, host to major international championships such as the 2004 World Cup, the 2009 Andalusian Open and the Spanish Open (2008, 2010 and 2012), was the venue for the tenth round of the San Miguel XV Andalucía Golf Challenge – Costa del Sol Destino República Dominicana by Globalia. An extraordinary course designed by José María Olazábal, which once again shone with its spectacular presentation and quality.

La Real Federación Andaluza de Golf (RFGA), con el apoyo de Turismo y Planificación Costa del Sol, tiene ya en marcha una nueva edición de la campaña “Andalucía te invita a jugar al Golf”. La iniciativa, que coincide con la llegada de las vacaciones de verano, invita a todos a disfrutar no sólo del golf, sino también de la cultura, la gastronomía, las playas, la montaña, los pueblos y las ciudades andaluzas.
La campaña se desarrolla principalmente a través de Movistar Golf, con anuncios durante la cobertura de los cuatro grandes torneos de golf del año —Masters de Augusta, PGA Championship, Open Británico y Open Americano— y, este año además, durante la Ryder Cup en septiembre. En esta edición, la campaña cuenta con la participación estelar de los profesionales Noemí Jiménez y Ángel Hidalgo como protagonistas de los spots publicitarios.
“Andalucía te invita a jugar al Golf” ofrece a los aficionados la oportunidad de participar en un atractivo sorteo: bonos que incluyen un greenfee más dos noches de alojamiento para dos adultos y hasta dos niños (según disponibilidad de cada hotel). La participación es gratuita y sólo requiere registrarse en la web de la Federación, a través de un banner instalado en la cabecera de la página de inicio..
Ya se han celebrado los dos primeros sorteos, correspondientes al Masters de Augusta y al PGA Championship, y los ganadores han sido anunciados en la página web federativa. Los próximos sorteos se realizarán tras la finalización de cada Major restante y de la Ryder Cup, concretamente los miércoles 18 de junio, 23 de julio y 1 de octubre de 2025. Una vez premiado, el participante quedará excluido de los sorteos posteriores.

‘Andalusia invites you to play golf’ offers fans the chance to participate in an attractive draw: vouchers that include a green fee plus two nights’ accommodation for two adults and up to two children (subject to availability at each hotel). Participation is free and only requires registration on the Federation’s website, via a banner at the top of the home page.
The first two draws, corresponding to the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship, have already taken place, and the winners have been announced on the Federation’s website. The next draws will take place after the end of each remaining Major and the Ryder Cup, specifically on Wednesday 18 June, 23 July and 1 October 2025. Once a prize has been awarded, the participant will be excluded from subsequent draws.
