1 large pumpkin, raw unpeeled

7 tablespoons (7 thumbs) peanut butter

Iodized salt to taste

4 teaspoons (4 thumb tips) fat or oil

2 ½ cups (2 ½ fists) clean water

Clean cooking area, cooking bowls, and utensils with soap and clean water. Wash hands with soap and clean water. Wash pumpkin.

Peel pumpkin and cut pumpkin:

• Try to make the pieces the same size.

• You can cook the pumpkin more quickly if you cut them into small pieces.

In a separate bowl mix the peanut butter with a small amount of clean water to make a paste.

2 Food Groups

Put the pumpkin into a cooking pot and add rest of the clean water. Cover and bring to a boil, add iodized salt and fat or vegetable oil.

Boil until the pumpkin is soft and can be easily pierced with a fork. When the pumpkin has cooked, add the peanut butter.

Cover and simmer. If you are cooking over gas, kerosene, jiko or fire, use low heat. Continue to simmer until it is the right texture for your baby’s age.

Let porridge cool before serving so you do not burn your baby’s mouth.

Wash your hands and your child’s hands with soap and clean water before feeding your child.

Ground grasshoppers or termites

Mashed banana

Mashed boiled egg
