Steps

Clean cooking area, cooking bowls, and utensils with soap and clean water. Wash hands with soap and clean water. Sieve the milk.

Put the milk in a cooking pot and bring to a rolling boil. Boil for at least 3 minutes.

Let the milk cool.

Put cooled boiled milk into a container made of stainless steel, enamel, or melamine with a tight-fitting lid.

Cover and leave for 2-3 days to ferment.

To prevent spoiling, do not move or shake the container.

1 Food Groups

The fermented milk should be thick and pull away from the sides of the container when you tilt it.

You can save about ¼ cup (1 cupped handful) to start a new batch of yogurt. This is called “a starter.” Use the starter right away to avoid contamination. Add fresh boiled milk to the starter and leave to ferment.

Wash your hands and your child’s hands with soap and clean water before feeding your child.
