Her-Story Jamesetta L. Barbee was born on June 24, 1944 in Memphis, TN. She was the oldest daughter of the late James and Lucille Lewis. She dedicated her life to Christ as a child at Monumental Baptist Church. Later on in life, she again connected herself to Christ and joined Abundant Grace Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Dwayne N. Hunt. There she remained a very active and faithful member and until her passing.

She was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from Dowling College.

She was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank and was the first black female supervisor. She was also employed by Federal Express (Fedex) and after 26 years of service, she retired in 2009, gaining a wealth of friends along the way.

Jamesetta held several ranks and titles with the Eastern Star Moolah Court Chapter 22. She was the Worthy Matron for Chelsea Chapter No. 85, Order of the Eastern Star, Lord Lady Ruler for Memphis Assembly No.38, Order of the Golden Circle, Member of Onward Court No. 16, Heroines of Jericho, and Past Illustrious Commandress of Moolah Court No. 22 Daughters.

Jamesetta, who was affectionately known as “GG” was passionate about helping others and giving back to the community. She loved cooking and serving people her “Soul Food” and delicious desserts. She, alongside her daughter, Torsha, and others feed the less fortunate every Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Jamesetta was the matriarch of her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved all of her family and enjoyed every moment with them.

On May 29,2022 Jamesetta gained her wings and went home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her late husband Raymond L. Barbee, her brother Willie Lewis and her sister Catherine Lewis.

She leaves behind to continue her legacy, her son; James Barbee and her daughter; Torsha Barbee Carter (both of Memphis,TN). She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of the family and friends.
