WEST PEARLAND AIR QUALITY

The assistance of residents is necessary in order to improve the quality of data that is being captured by both the City and TCEQ. Many residents are posting the air quality events on Facebook or other social media outlets. Residents should report their issue directly to TCEQ/the City of Pearland. All smells should be reported to the City of Pearland at 281.652.1900. The City is responding to these requests and making customer contact 24/7. Once City staff responds to the complaint, they will drive the area and attempt to document the boundaries of the odor event. All other environmental complaints regarding odors can be submitted to the TCEQ by calling the Houston Regional Office depending on the type if odor: Unknown, chemical, or mixed odors/visible emissions/other air issues – Air Section: 713.767.3714 Landfill/garbage odor – Waste Section: 713.767.3641 Sewage/Wastewater – Water Section: 713.767.3676

All resident complaints must be registered with TCEQ/City of Pearland by an individual, detailing the specific concern in order for the complaints to be effectively handled. If there is an odor, provide an intensity ranking from 1 to 5 (1 being minimal and 5 being extreme). By tracking this information, we can begin to establish a more exact map of the affected areas for each event.

SHADOW CREEK RANCH TRAIL PLANS ADVANCE FOR ADDITIONAL CONNECTIONS Plans for the new Shadow Creek Ranch Trail, connecting two existing path systems south of Clear Creek in Pearland, have progressed, with 30 percent design plans submitted to the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) in mid-May. The project is part of the Parks & Recreation Master Plan that was adopted by City Council in 2005, and again in 2015, that listed hike and bike trails as the number one priority for acquisition and development. Trail and walkways have also been highly rated in the biannual citizen perception survey that the City conducts. The $1.9 million project will construct a 10 foot wide hike and bike trail along the southern bank of Clear Creek, beginning at the end of the existing Nature Trail east of Kingsley Drive and extending east approximately 4,700 feet, connecting to the existing 10’ sidewalk east of Kirby Drive at the Clear Creek Bridge. When the Shadow Creek Ranch Trail section is completed, there will be nearly 2.34 miles of trail/pathway from the Nature Path at Kingsley to the shopping center at SH 288. The new trail will also include shaded seating areas, bike facilities and educational signage. This project was submitted for federal/state funding to the Houston Galveston Area Council’s Call for Projects in 2013, as part of the Transportation Improvement Program to maximize local dollars. As such, the project will include 80 percent federal funds reimbursed through TXDOT with a 20 percent local City of Pearland funding match. Sixty percent of the design plans are scheduled for submission to TXDOT for approval in August. Bid for construction is expected to go out in July 2018 with construction starting in October 2018.
