You may find that you need to visit your dentist more often while you are pregnant. They may give your teeth a good clean and will be able to give you advice on how to look after your teeth and gums. However, the Department of Health advises that you do not have amalgam fillings replaced until after your baby is born and you have finished breast feeding. You should avoid smoking and drinking alcohol during pregnancy. If you have morning sickness you may want to eat ‘little and often’. If you are often sick, rinse your mouth afterwards with plain water to prevent the acid in your vomit attacking your teeth. If you want to brush after vomiting then wait about an hour.
