Interview with Governor

Whitman

On Thursday, October 27 we welcomed Governor Christine Todd Whitman, the first and so far only female governor of New Jersey, to Mother Seton as a part of “The Speaker Series." This premier of the series was the first big event run by the Leadership Group at Mother Seton and we hope that the great success of this event carries on to all our future events. Our students and guests learned a lot from Governor Whitman, ranging from female empowerment, to making sure those who are eligible vote, to the environment, to discussing

how the extremes of politics are actually stopping decisions from being made.

Students from the Leadership Group came up with the questions to ask which included those like: “Since you were awarded The Eisenhower Medal for Leadership and Service in 2017, what advice can you give women who are looking for their voice in a male dominant field or in a strongly opinionated position?," “What can we, as students, do to be active in our government or democracy, given our inability to vote?," “What is your opinion on the two-party system in America? Do you believe it to be too rigid as you yourself are a Republican but have openly disagreed with some things that most of the Republican party stands for and now support an independent party, also known as The Forward Party?," and “What do you think of the current younger generation’s interest and initiative in helping to fight climate change and what are some things we, as high school students, can do to help the cause for environmental protection and prevention of climate change?”.

Juniors Karra Atis, Sara Nicolau, and Gurnoor Kaur as well as Sophomore, Sasha Smyth represented our school on stage interviewing the former governor. After the interview concluded, our students and guests had the opportunity to take photos and speak with Governor Whitman. I was so proud that all of the work that the Leadership Group put into this event paid off and was truly moved by being able to listen to and learn from a woman who has made history. The evening was a great learning experience and opportunity for all.

Members of the Leadership Group also helped out at a fundraising dinner for a displaced Ukrainian family run by the Rahway Knights of Columbus.

Beauty and the Beast

This November 18th from the 20th, Mother Seton hosted its Beauty and the Beast Musical. They had been preparing from September all the way to November. It was a long and enduring process of work and dedication. But, it was not for nothing as people had arrived to “Be Our Guest” in this phenomenal, high-energy, and great love story musical Many enjoyed this magical m

have been possible without the help of Mrs Flammia, Mr. and Mrs. Caroll, and Mr. Adam. For all their help and guidance, and the tireless nights they spent with us at play practice, we thank them. The Beauty and the Beast musical production at Mother Seton had done such an enchanted job and had shown the audience “adventure in this provincial case town.”

“Great cast, comedic, and outstanding!”Anonymous

“The Girls had really done an amazing job!”Anonymous

With the help of many parents, students, teachers, staff, faculties, and sponsors, the show was able to come together as they had to make this production run smoothly. The cast was amazing in choreography, singing, and acting. They had performed many high energy songs and dances from ‘Be Our Guest’ all the way to ‘Home’ and 'Human Again'. The Crew had demonstrated and done amazing lighting, sound, props, flats, scenic projections, costumes, etc. The orchestra, such as the drums, keyboard, and piano, had also performed dynamically and coherently to the show. The show was all student-run, but did have the help of many faculty and parents. This show could not

Junior-Senior Retreat

On the weekend of October 7th, the Juniors and Seniors attended MSR’s annual retreat to Maris Stella in LBI. Our girls stayed for the weekend and participated in many activities, such as group talks about relationships with God, self, and others. Everyone was split into

groups and got to discuss what was said in each talk session. Along the bayside of Maris Stella, the girls also took part in trust walks. These girls were paired up with peers they may not have been familiar with prior to the retreat. Each pair of girls was given blindfolds and one person would put it on while the other guided them to a peaceful spot along the water. Through this activity, the girls learned to trust their classmates and to have fun. Furthermore, each group helped prepare meals, participated in fun activities, and led prayer services.

In my opinion, I loved this retreat. It was so much fun, and it was a great experience overall. I got to know some of the seniors better, and even some of the juniors. I learned a lot about my relationships and how I can work on them. I connected with God and had moments of meditation and inner peace. I definitely got closer to my best friend and created bonds with new friends. Something else I enjoyed was the sunrise prayer service on the beach. We all woke up early and got to sit on the beach and enjoy the sunrise during our prayer service. If you are an upcoming junior or even a h d d ’ d h r c y

Spirit Week

On the week of Monday, October 17- Friday, October 21, 2022, we had spirit week. There were so many activities, all of which contributed to a friendly competition of which grade gets the most points at the end of the week The activities that we did such as trivia, class theme songs, bulletin boards, and, of course, field day helped each grade gain some points We also had to try to get 100% participation on the dress down days. On Monday, the dress down was MSR logo day. During mods 5-6, that same day, the freshmen held class office speeches for president, secretary, treasurer and publicity chairperson while the juniors got their ring measurements. Congratulations to all the newly elected officers of the freshmen class and to those who ran for these positions.

The sophomores & seniors held class meetings during mods 5-6 too. On Tuesday, the dress down was to wear red and/or gold. There was also a trivia contest, in which the juniors got the victory. On Wednesday, each grade dressed up in a theme which was seasons. The freshmen wore fall, sophomores winter, juniors spring, and seniors summer. There were also presentations of class theme songs related to the seasons each grade got. The seniors won the song presentation. On Thursday, we dressed down in band t-shirts. The bulletin boards were judged and the freshmen got the victory for the bulletin board. In the afternoon, we did a no competition karaoke, screaming out lyrics as we danced in the gym On Friday, we all wore our favorite sports apparel We also had field day the same day which was extremely fun Most of us lost our voices at the end because we were cheering so hard. The sophomores and seniors took the victory for field day, with the Seniors winning overall. Congrats!

Halloween

Halloween at MSR was full of spectacular and exciting activities, we had many things to enjoy such as music, food, and one of the most exciting events, Trunk-or-Treat! Our wonderful staff was kind enough to decorate their cars so that our Trunk-or-Treat activity could really come to life. Students were thrilled as they went from trunk to trunk and collected delicious candy alongside their friends in celebration, and who doesn’t love a little early trick-or-treating! Trunk-or-treat was an amazing experience for us all and it was the perfect thing to get us into the Halloween spirit! Here’s a q e event, It was great, I had a blast! It was good to spend time with friends.”

Stories of Female Empowerment

Born in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, Iran, Mahsa Amini became well-known after her tragic death. She was born on September 20, 2000. Amini grew up in a very traditional and religious household. Her family always encouraged her to achieve her dreams of finishing university and then to later on get married and have a family of her own She always received love and support from her family for the goals she wanted to pursue

Amini passed away on September 16, 2022. She was declared deceased in a hospital in Tehran, Iran Amini was declared to have died from multiple organ failures caused by cerebral hypoxia; however, in reality, a police guard had beaten Mahsa Amini up while she was about to be transported to a detention center The police guard had decided to attack Mahsa Amini because she was allegedly visually perceived as wearing her hijab too loosely. Iranians and many others believe the Iranian regime is trying to cover its steps.

Her death provoked a chain of protests in her hometown, Saqqez, and moved through many other provinces in Iran; it spread like a wildfire. Iran's government attempted to stop the spread of her death by restricting the people’s internet. Amani’s tragic death became an important discussion throughout many countries. The protests moved as far as Berlin, Washington D C , and Los Angeles. Masha has influenced many Iranian women and women across the world; they are reminded that it is time to fight for their rights and that they don't have enough time to be waiting for these laws that are all about violence and the misuse of young women around women.

While women ' s groups clearly expressed support for Iranian women and their right to choose whether or not to wear the hijab, Masha inspires women to know that their bodies are important to themselves and they can do whatever they would like.

Since 2014, Iranian women have been fighting for their rights when it comes to what they can wear Due to President Ebrahim Raisi coming into power, he had the morality police make sure that everyone is dressing in accordance with the dress code. University students, doctors, dentists, and many others protested due to her innocent death. Mahsa Amini’s death inspired many girls and women around the world to speak up against cruel and discriminatory rules against Muslim women.

Fashion Without Breaking the Bank + Incoming winter trends/colors

Stick to the Classics: Investing money in every season closet staples saves a whole lot of money by using pieces like basic colored tees, jeans, skirts, jackets, blazers, cardigans...etc. With a closet incorporating these, it makes it easier to keep up and incorporate the latest trends. Now think about it, why have a closet full of seasonal trendy items that you have to keep up with vs. a closet full of pieces with endless combinations and incorporating the latest trends.

Shop during the best sale times of the year: To get the best deals, it is most common to purchase your season staples months in advance. For winter clothing, the best day to buy your winter coats, fuzzy boots, and warm sweaters is on President’s Day in February. For
