YEAR IN REVIEW

LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends,

As I enter my 8th year as the Executive Director (and 24th year with the organization), I’m proud to acknowledge the continued impact of our services as a result of the close collaboration between the local school districts, chambers, businesses, donors, volunteers and residents.

In reflecting on what I love about this town, even through years of change, the constant is that we choose to live in Bozeman because it's a beautiful, safe and thriving community - but a thriving community does not happen by accident. We have to invest in it, nurture it and put in the work. Every one of us has a responsibility to positively contribute to this place we all call home. We all need to care about the experiences and mental health of all of our neighbors.

Thrive knows the value of creating a place where parents can ask for help and where our school-age children know they have the whole community in their corner. We know raising kids is challenging even in the best of circumstances and everyone benefits when parents and children have the resources they need.

The CDC Youth Risk Behavior Report came out in February 2023 and highlights the necessity of school-based strategies to improve adolescents' health and well-being. It specifically speaks to the work Thrive is doing in Bozeman and Big Sky Schools, and the work Thrive will be doing in Belgrade in the fall.

The work Thrive is doing and the impact we are seeing is 100% thanks to the support of our supporters and the volunteers who dedicate their time to helping our community thrive.

We are thankful for those of you who choose to be part of the solution and ensure that this valley stays a safe, accepting, healthy and welcoming place for all, now and for years to come.

CHILD ADVANCEMENT PROJECT

One hour a week. Transformative impact.

The Child Advancement Project (CAP) carefully matches nurturing community volunteer mentors with students in grades K-12. National statistics show mentoring benefits include: a 50% increase in graduation rates, increased lifetime earning potential and decreased justice system costs.

Ben, a middle schooler, was referred to the CAP program in the fall of 2021. Ben missed over a 100 days of school and was struggling academically and socially. Ben was matched with Andrew, a US Army veteran who was looking to get more involved in the community. Andrew starts each meeting with eye contact and handshake. What seems like such a small gesture really has set a tone for respect and being present. Andrew and Ben have worked on the importance of school and Ben is starting to recognize his potential. Ben has gone from missing over 100 days of school to 30 so far this school year. In addition to his improved attendance, Ben has matured during his time with Andrew. Before Ben would say alarming statements in an attempt to get a rise out of adults and now he is showing respect and kindness to adults and peers.

Gallatin County has the fastest growing Spanish speaking population in Montana. Our Spanish speaking Parent Liaison has worked with 85 new families this school year.

“Many thanks, Mayra. Thank God we have good people who can help us now since before there was nothing. I used to get very depressed with my eldest son and I couldn't communicate with the school, but now that we have someone to help us and we can communicate and feel tranquil.”

Evan joined Thrive for Circle of Security (COS) classes 3 years ago when he was getting full custody of his two young daughters. COS is a curriculum designed to enhance attachment security between parents and their children. Evan reports the information gained in these classes has helped him better understand his daughters’ behaviors and how to respond in a positive way.

Evan also started attending Thriving Dads events with his two daughters including our most recent ice skating event. He knows where to go when he needs parenting support and he is thankful for the opportunity to have time with other dads in his community.

Through home visits and personalized support, Partnership works to foster the confidence and self-sufficiency of young families to create a strong foundation in which children can reach their full emotional, intellectual, social and physical potential. 1145 e Home Visit Visits Individuals Households 245 Building strong families from the beginning 93
PARTNERSHIP PROJECT

Shortly after giving birth, Delaney (age 16) ended up in the hospital after a suicide attempt. The hospital connected Delaney, her 18 year old boyfriend Kade and their 2 month old daughter to Thrive. The new parents were under a great deal of stress and needed help getting stabilized. Their Thrive Family Support Worker met with them intensively to help them identify stressors and connect them to mental health and educational resources. After a year of hard work, Kade finished high school, and Delaney is on track to finish with her peers. They have identified and completed goals around parenting, mental health, education and self care. Their daughter will turn one soon and the whole family is thriving.

GIRLS PROGRAMS

Inspiring future female leaders

Girls for a Change (GFAC) is designed to help girls discover and build on their inherent strengths to reach their goals. Programming includes: an annual statewide Summit, GFAC Pop-up Event and Girls’ Stories Girls’ Voices (GSGV) Summer Camp. Girls on the Run® (GOTR) creatively combines running and health into their curriculum of self confidence, empowerment, anti-bullying and compassion for others. 2022 was our final year for these two programs. Thank you to all of you who made these numbers possible.

THRIVING INTO THE FUTURE

Thrive has a new home! After 36 years of renting, we are thankful to finally put down our anchor. Bozeman is growing at a rate of 2.83% annually and its population has increased by 9.01% since the most recent census. As our community grows, the needs and demands grow. Thrive has seen unprecedented numbers of families attending support groups, parent education, family fun nights and record high numbers of school-age kids in need of a mentor. It is Thrive’s goal to match at least 10% of the district's kids with a mentor and we need your help to do this. There are 100’s of kids throughout the school district waiting for a buddy to help them through life.

Our community has seen a steady growth in the number of Hispanic and Latino families who are calling Gallatin County home. According to the US Census, the Hispanic and Latino population has grown by 138% in our valley. Thrive believes that ALL children should have the opportunity to be successful so we dedicated two positions to supporting our Spanish speaking parents and their children.

Our community is changing and Thrive is growing and adapting to meet the new needs. Our building will allow us to be a hub for all parents with any need. It allows us to offer more programs to our community of families.

We are thankful for ALL the families who trust us and believe in our impact and we are thankful for everyone who supported our new home and we hope you will come by and hear about all the ways we can help your family thrive.
