Sambell Centre a reality in 1989 THE success of the Sambell Centre AppeaJ. which raised nearly $500,000. has enabled the College Board to approve the start of building this year. As is often the case. there is bad news and
there is good news. First the bad news: parts of the College grou nds are aJready looking like Steptoe 's Yard. This is going to get worse! But the good news is that the Sambell Centre is actually underway - building has commenced and it is hoped that the Worship Centre and the extensions to the P.A. Centre will be completed in November. ln addition, extensions are being made to the maintenance workshop and alterations made to the art room courtyard. And that's not all: as part of the long- term development of the College, a residence for the Principal is being constructed near the Brockman Avenue ent.rance - this is not connected with the Sarnbell Centre Appeal but is being carried ou t with College funds.
I! has been in the pipeline for some rime, s ince the Board of Management decided that it would be a good idea for the Principal to reside on campus, and, in fact, building commenced some weeks before the Sambell Centre. The final step in the dance will be for our peripatetic Chaplain to move into the house vacated by the Principal. When the music -Or l Gibson stops . . .

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT AS THE College begins a new year full of hope and expectation, buoyed by last year's excellent academic results and the anticipation of the new Sambell Centre fast becoming a reality, I would like to refer to an anecdote related by the Chaplain to the student body at the opening College EucharisL He related how a father and son were surfing together somewhere ''down south''. when a king wave came up behind them. Both father and son looked at the growing wave and to each other, then the son smiled and said to the father, "Come on Dad, we're in this together". This is how we should be this year. harnessing the energy of love. joy and hard work, together. - TONY LONDON
