Kick off festival weekend with Blueberry Jam on Friday, June 13, a free concert in Festival Park, and the Critter Costume Contest at Fredonia Brewery.

Historic Preservation Month events kick off with a Lunch Hour Learn Series with Jessica Sowell. Jessica presented during our Lunch Hour Learn Series about the Nacogdoches Historic Districts, resources for property owners, and about historic preservation grants.
Attendees included home owners, real-estate agents, and restoration contractors.
This week Veronica joined members of the Nacogdoches County Historical Commission for hands-on training on how to restore State Historic Markers.

Durst-Taylor House featured on Garden Tour March 17 & 18th th
This year ’ s Tour of Home Gardens will feature the Durst-Taylor House at 304 North St.
After posting some amazing improvements to the gardens, the Garden Capital of Texas group reached out to ask if the gardens could be featured on the tour.
The tour will be Saturday, May 17 from 9am to 4pm and Sunday, May 18 , from 1pm-4pm Tickets for the Garden tour are available online or at the Nacogdoches Visitor’s Center
The public computers and wifi saved the day for two people this week An older customer came to the library for assistance in accessing an online defensive driving course She had limited experience with computers, but several staff assisted her and she completed the course early this week On Thursday a different customer could not access one of his final exams for college with his laptop. Library staff and City IT quickly worked together to get him access to his final exam where he reported earning a perfect score. In April, the library documented 839 computer sessions or 442 hours demonstrating how important the library is in providing access to technology.
Library staff will offer a help session for completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) session to parents and 2025-2026 college students. The session is free, but registration is requested through eventbrite.com.
The library staff is excited to announce Bibliocon! Bibliocon will be a celebration of juvenile graphic novels and comic books Graphic novels are books whose storylines are accompanied by comic panels Participants will enjoy crafts, games, trivia and snacks This family friendly event will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 1:00pm. The weekend will kick off with a Bibliocon Movie Night on May 16th at 6:30pm. The featured movie is The Sky Crawlers (rated PG-13). For more information, please call library staff at 936-559-2970.
Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 8 and brush in zone 17.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

As of this week, the City’s contractor has completed all 41 concrete valley gutters and almost all of the curb and gutter sections included in the 2025 Curb and Valley Gutter Project. They will continue next week replacing the last few sections of curb on W. Starr, E. Oak Lane, Edgewood Drive, Brown Street and Redwood Drive as well as any asphalt patching still needed. They will then go to work on restoring disturbed areas and starting final cleanup.
The City of Nacogdoches Public Works, Parks and Recreation and Sanitation Departments have collaborated on the hosting of community-focused “Bulk Trash Days” in which residents can sign up to have two large items picked up at their homes or bring them to a drop-off location on the assigned day. This initiative is being made to combat illegal dumping and litter abatement around the city and within public spaces and parks.
Pickup dates are currently scheduled for each Tuesday in May. Residents may register for a pickup or drop-off beginning on April 14 when the registration links will go live. Space is limited to 20 households for curbside pickup and two roll off dumpsters at the Community Drop-off location.
Interested residents should visit the link below on April 14th to claim their spot to participate in either a curbside pickup or drop-off at the Community Drop-off location.
