Community Happenings

Residents who wish to file an application for the City of Nacogdoches General Election ballot may do so from now until February 13. The election, scheduled for May 2, 2026, will fill the expiring terms for the Southeast Ward and Southwest Ward Council Member positions. For more information, click here

The City of Nacogdoches is under an Ice Storm Warning beginning at 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Residents are encouraged to follow the City Facebook page for important updates throughout the weekend as weather conditions shift.

This week Visit Nacogdoches Director Ashley Morgan attended a Northeast Texas Tourism Council meeting in Kilgore, where the 2026 NETTC Guide was revealed, with Nacogdoches as the cover photo! See attached for the design. Free copies are available at the Visitor Center.

Staff is working on several upcoming ads with Texas Meetings and Events, Travel Texas and travel bloggers.

Downtown Sip Around

Nacogdoches Main Street is excited to launch the first-ever Downtown Sip Around a month-long competition spotlighting specialty drinks crafted by downtown restaurants. From mocktails to cocktails, each stop on the Sip Around will feature a unique beverage for guests to try and rate.

Modeled after the popular Brick Street

Burger Battle, this new event invites the community to sip, support local, and vote for their favorites. Stay tuned for participating locations and voting details!

Nacogdoches Wine Swirl

Mark your calendars Wine Swirl 2026 is set for Saturday, April 11 in Downtown Nacogdoches! This year ’ s theme is Red, Wine & Blue, celebrating local flavor with a patriotic twist.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, February 13, and include wine samples, shopping, and bites from local restaurants. Stay tuned for ticket links and event details as we get closer to one of Main Street’s signature spring events!

Nacogdoches Public Library

The library was informed that it received an Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association, an affiliate of Texas Municipal League. It is one of 101 out of 516 libraries to receive this award. It was awarded this honor by meeting ten service criteria.

The library staff wishes to thank its fellow City of Nacogdoches departments, community partners, volunteers, City Council, and the community for their continued support.

The first event in the Big Read Nacogdoches celebration of the book by Mary Roach, Fuzz, will be a family camp-in. The event is February 6 at 6:30pm. Participants will enjoy storytime, games and snacks. Please register at eventbrite.com. th

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, an initiative to get parents and caregivers to read to their babies and children continues. There is now information about the program on the library’s website at nactx.us/library.

Public Works

Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 7 and brush in zone 19.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup

• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.

o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.

o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.

o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.

o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.

o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste

o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.

o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.

o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.

o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:

-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Recreation Department

Our annual Kid Fish event held at Lakeside Park has been postponed due to weather. The event will be held next Saturday, January 31 9am-12pm. This is a free kid’s fishing tournament for ages 1-16 No need to pre register, just catch a fish and have it weighed to be entered Prizes are given away at noon. Participants must provide their own fishing gear and bait and must be present to win. All participants must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are eligible to win in 1 of the following categories: First Fish caught by a Boy, First Fish caught by a Girl, Largest Trout, Smallest Trout, and Heaviest Five Fish Stringer in appropriate age division and Largest Any Species. Age Divisions are 1 - 8 years and 9 - 16 years.

Please do not release dead or injured fish into the pond. No fishing license is required during the event. The Fire Department will be grilling sausages and HeadStart will be joining.

Spring sport registration has begun. Registration has begun for spring adult softball, adult soccer and youth volleyball.

Parks Department

We, and our friends at Cunningham Recreation and Crosswinds Construction, are so excited that installation of the new Mill Pond Playground has started! While the main playground structure is complete the playground is not ready for use yet. No one may utilize the playground until it is safe for use
