The sixth annual Keep Smyrna Beautiful Garden Tour will be May 17, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For only $10 ($15 the day of the event) you can tour four unique home gardens, the rose gardens at Delmar Gardens, and enjoy great food and music at the Tea Room. The Smyrna Veterans Committee, the City of Smyrna , and American Legion Post 160 will kick-off the Memorial Day Ceremony at 9:30 am on Monday, May 26, at the 20th Century Veterans Memorial at 800 King St., Smyrna, between City Hall and the Library. The event will honor fallen veterans and help support local veterans and their families Guest speakers will be Chaplain Major Olga Westfall and Ranger SFC Tony Foster. Campbell High School JROTC will present the Colors. Breigha Young will sing the National Anthem and the Roswell New Horizons Band will provide music throughout the ceremony This year the Smyrna Veterans Committee and American Legion Post 160 salute those from Cobb County who have fallen while on active duty this century in a special insert in the program. Following the ceremony, there will be a barbecue cookout open to the public held at American Legion Post 160 at 160 Legion Drive starting at 12 noon Show support for local veterans and their families by participating in the Distribution of Poppies organized by the Auxiliary of Smyrna’s American Legion Post 160 over the Memorial Day Weekend.

The Taylor-Brawner House, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, has been expertly restored and is a treat on its own. Live music provided by the Campbell High School String Quartet and local pianist Barbara Kinkaid will make this a special experience of Smyrna’s local talents and heritage. KIWANIS ART SHOWCASE

Young artists from two high schools and six middle schools showed their talent at the annual Kiwanis Art Showcase. The winners competed at the Georgia District Kiwanis Art and Talent Showcase in Carrollton. Students from Campbell and Osborne High Schools and Campbell, Cooper, Griffin, and the International Academy Middle Schools took part in the show at Campbell High in April. The joint event was sponsored by the Smyrna Kiwanis CLub and Golden K Kiwanis of Smyrna. SMYRNA 1ST BAPTIST HONORS RETIRING PASTOR STEVE KIMMEL

First Baptist Church of Smyrna members will be honoring their Pastor, the Rev. Steve Kimmel and his wife Dale at a Retirement Ceremony and Reception on May 25. The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. in the First Baptist Sanctuary and the reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall with heavy hors d’oeuvres being served. All are welcome to attend. Steve has been Rev. Kimmel pastor of First Baptist Church since 1991. He has served churches in Miami, Florida, and in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. He and his wife, Dale, live in Smyrna, where Dale teaches at King Springs Elementary School. They have two married children - a son, Joshua, and a daughter Corinne. Both live in the Atlanta metro area. Pastor Kimmel has faithfully served the Lord and ministered to the people of First Baptist Church as Senior Pastor for more than 22 years. SHRINE CIRCUS RETURNS MAY 16-26

The Yaarab Shrine Circus is returning this year to thrill and entertain you like never before.
