River Crescent

Exclusively developed for residents seeking luxurious lifestyles by the riverfront. One Elixir is not short of exclusivity with its lounge bar serving only residents or by personal invitations. Transportation links are limited to One Elixir, for non-residents there is a free public carpark within walking distance.

The modern chic architecture includes shiny glass facades re ecting the glistening river, this building also o ers a generous views and natural light. The building faces south, maximizing the sun throughout the year, allowing One Elixir’s clienteles unparalleled opportunity to bask in the glorious sunshine during the summer season. Whether it be on the terrace or by the bar, One Elixir has the perfect place to enjoy exclusive cocktails.

The oorplan of One Elixir o ers a range of di erent views. The South of the property o ers a panoramic unblocked view of the river and city, this includes the spacious terrace. The North of the property faces an industrial area with development potential. Indoor seating will be oriented to face the river, where possible.

The interior design scheme has been created in a way as to distract the occupant away from the views to the north of the property.

C OMPETITORS C OMPETITOR INTERIOR & A MBIENCE

Several popular restaurants and bars sit within a 5km radius, but none o er the exclusivity One Elixir provides. One Elixir provides an advantage with its generous space and limited occupancy. Decked with an elegant and contemporary interior scheme, the closest competitor to One Elixir is Restaurant Six. Unlike One Elixir, Six is situated away from the river without the spectacular waterfront views.

Another competitor to Six is Waterside, however, they are not an immediate threat as they o er coastal casual settings. The interior scheme is relaxing and casual which does not shout exclusivity.

One Elixir aims to pull away from the casual interior scheme and provides an upmarket elegant scheme decked with bespoke furniture pieces.

Since Six is a formal dining restaurant, the neutral colour palette of the interior scheme allows customers to relax and appreciate their 6-course meals in a calming interior setting. One Elixir in contrast o ers an upmarket bar lounge setting and the interior complements the uniqueness of its target market.

Interior

A neutral brown palette with warm light provides a cosy and formal dining experience. A contemporary scheme using natural materials such as light and dark wood. Using a pop of bright coloured orange for its furniture makes the space stands out. However, it is still a very bland space with an empty ceiling treatment.

Atmosphere

Cosy and moody at night. Bright and spacious during the day. Lack of ceiling treatment could potentially be echoey and the space would be lled with noise when it is crowded. This is a technique used to create an illusion that the establishment is busy.

Products & Services

Six is known for their services o ering 6 of their best food and drinks. They have limited edition cocktails and o er 6-course meals. Their unique identity revolves around the number 6 and maintaining o ering the best of 6 on the menu.

B RAND S PECIFICATIONS

Typography

Sans Serif similar to Industrial Sans Typeface.

Colour White and brown-bronze. Neutral palette.

Name

The name could derive from its location on the sixth oor and o ering six variety of starters, mains and desserts.

The icon is simpli ed number six with its name in the circle.

C OMPETITOR B RAND S TATIONERY

On top of o ering limited-edition cocktails inspired by the history of the surrounding area, their menu design is basic and minimal. The menu o ers clear details of the items. One Elixir would follow the same example of a minimalist menu and stationery as it provides an easy visual aid to clients. The colour scheme for One Elixir would follow the interior scheme, the same as Six has done. This ensures the continuity of the brand.

The di erence between One Elixir ’ s brand stationery to Six is adding an element of sophistication and youthfulness. The colour and graphic design should give the customer a sense of excitement upon looking at One Elixir stationery. The brand vision for One Elixir is to provide creative and unique cocktails inspired from around the world. One Elixir wants to give a sense of surprise and youthfulness to the client.

Clients can expect to be relaxed yet feel energised being in the space.

One Elixir targets clients who are design aware. All about status and aunting their wealth. The clientele of this establishment is familiar with cocktails around the world as they are well-travelled. Clients are open to venturing into new avours and personal bartending experiences.

One Elixir targets residents of River Crescent and sophisticated individuals that crave exclusivity as the bar is the by-invite only establishment. Non-bias to age, race, or nationality.

One Elixir would prefer customers that enjoy being in an exclusive environment and exclusive drinking experience. Client shops for high-end brands and dines in exclusive restaurants. FINAL BRAND NAME

ONE ELIXIR

While compiling research into the name of the penthouse bar, it became apparent a short, catchy, and exotic name is more tting for an exclusive cocktail bar. Analysing the list of CNN's 30 world best bars in 2021, the names listed are unique and compliment their overall brand. A third of the bars on the list refer to a drink or something connected to the industry, for example, Manhattan, Paradiso, Licoreria, Baba au Rum.

Another trend for naming a bar is to use a number to refer to the location, oor number, or the number of products on the menu. Six, located on the sixth oor serving the 6 best cocktails and 6-course meals the establishment has to o er. LeVeL33 is located in Singapore, as the name speaks for itself, it is located on level 33. 1-Altitude, located at 1 Ra es Place in the tallest building in Singapore.

Developed from the brand names, One Elixir was inspired to have a number as part of its brand. Since its competitor is number 6, it seems tting that One Elixir be number 1 for its goal as the rst exclusive penthouse bar.

The word Elixir, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, is a substance, usually a liquid, with a magical power to cure or improve. Cocktails are a concoction of liquids designed to bring happiness and enjoyment from the experience. Together One Elixir is an appropriate exclusive name for the penthouse bar.

ANALYSIS

Poll was created on Instagram, participants aged 25-65 voted that this brand layout catches their attention within 5 seconds.

Analyzing the branding of direct competitors to One Elixir, their branding icon represents the products they are selling. For instance, Waterside Bar + Grill has an illustration that shows waves of water or a grilling mark with a capital "W' to represent their brand name. The branding icon of Six is a simpli ed number six with its name inside the brand. Both icons have successfully achieved legibility within seconds of eye contact.

According to Wells, logo designs have to achieve legibility as the branding needs to successfully deliver its product to potential customers even before pointing out contact. Inspired by some of the famous icons of bars around the world, One Elixir's icon of a simpli ed potion bottle strengthens the character of the brand.

FINAL BRAND ICON

Several developments have directed the brand towards a bold Serif typeface with the icon of the bottle on its side. During development it was decided this layout is more impactful at a glance in comparison to the potion bottle replacing the letter "i" of the wording "Elixir. The icon ts at the same as the height of the wordings and creates a balanced overall graphic design.

RESEARCH

A survey was conducted to understand the audience’s perception of a successful typeface. According to the research done by Visme, Velarde suggests gender-neutral design elements are about nding a balance between masculinity and femininity. Typography is essential as part of the overall branding as it will impact the target audience. The typeface will essentially represent the business and it is important to have an appropriate typeface that matches the target market.

Two results that stand out are of simple fonts of Sans Serif and Serif as it encourages legibility.

Comparing One Elixir to direct competitors, the typeface chosen is Serif meanwhile the competitors are Sans Serif. The casual modernity of their product complements their branding and provides a comfortable ambience.

Meanwhile, the popular vote for One Elixir is Serif typeface as it represents formality. Some development was done to show cursive to provide femineity into the overall brand, however, this could be perceived wrongly by the audience as a feminine bar.

In conclusion, the best overall branding for One Elixir should be one that successfully catches the attention of the audience.

DEVELOPMENT

Inspired by the colours of ctitious witches' potion bottles, the brand creates excitement while maintaining its luxury appearance.

According to Solar, yellow is a popular colour for brand identity as it evokes positivity and warmth, which the bar aims to provide for its client. A few shades of yellow could also view as gold which could exude luxury to the client.

The colour of the brand should remain consistent as one colour regardless of light or dark contrast. During development, the only colour that maintains legibility is yellow.

Instead of bright neon green that could represent slime, a few shades of darker green similar to emerald green would be appropriate for the overall branding that typically exudes luxury and grandiose.

During the research, a business card with a terrazzo graphic creates a casual impression. However, if One Elixir adds gold foil subtly as part of the stationery design, this elevates the overall stationery to an upmarket establishment.

It is important to maintain the design scheme that complements the bar, this ensures continuity of the overall brand just like the competitors with One Elixir. The graphic design for the stationery is the rst point of contact for the client and it needs to impress or make the receiver curious about the establishment.

Development was considered to make it minimal, but the minimalistic approach does not complement the boldness of the bar. A balance of minimal wording with bold graphic design will enhance the overall branding. Adding terrazzo graphics creates a sense of excitement and surprise for the receiver.

The mission of One Elixir is to ensure that before the customer enters the space, the customer can anticipate a one-of-a-kind experience.

The restaurant has conformed to DDA requirements and space allowances has been allocated to accommodate clients/sta with a disability.

Plenty of space to mingle or perfect as a smoking area. This place should be kept minimal as the area of the oorplan is perfect for event space.

O er exibility as an event space because it is tuck away with bigger spaces for customers and their guest to mingle outdoor.

Seats in zone C will be oriented towards the view at an angle on nal 3D modeling software.

Recommend to cover this wall to solid wall as it o er no aesthetic value or any view.

Larger outdoor area to accommodate bigger groups for warmer days. Also keeping this space minimal so it can accommodate rental furniture for parties and events.

This space is group space as the centerpiece furniture is also a bench seating for users. Perfect for bigger group and this space is also the featured space.

Seats in zone A will be oriented towards the view at an angle on nal 3D modeling software.

The "pause" zone is perfect for when customers are waiting to be served. This is also ideal for when there is an event for larger capacity to hold the group without causing an inconvenience to sta or other customers.

Allocated space near bar for storage, closer to reach for stocks and continue the space for sta break room.

Alcohol display for exclusive liquor of the month/year. This o ers a great backdrop for client to have a sel e and the spot would be recognizable instantly.

Seats in zone B will be oriented towards the view at an angle on nal 3D modeling software.

Recommended wall to be replaced with curtain wall for additional lighting and maximize the view.

All seating on the terrace in a single line oriented to face the stunning view of the city.

INITIAL DEVELOPMENT

INTERIOR SCHEME RESEARCH

The Interior scheme for the bar wants to complement the colour palette. Famously known for its use of colours, scale and textures, Masquespacio has been an inspiration towards the nal design of One Elixir. According to Morris from Dezeen, the scheme maintains its youthfulness yet remains sophisticated. Sophistication and classiness are not a "boxed" idea whereby a space needs to splash with marble nish and gold accessories. Following the bold movement of the designers, One Elixir aims to add a splash of youthfulness and elegance to cater to the target market of the bar. Through observation, postmodernism and maximalism elements are subtly used. The design uses scale to accentuate the textures and form, therefore, creating postmodernism elements but maintaining a modernistic style. To create balance, Eduard's cocktail bar uses copper that gives o elegance and this can be seen with Masquepacio's interior design too. Subtle use of re ective material, soft textiles and smooth nishes could provide the same balance against the bold colours.

Further research into several famous bars, Bill Bensley's design scheme for Intercontinental Da Nang's bar successfully uses bold colours against a monochromatic palette on its textiles. Observation shows that monochromatic also has relevance to British Colonial times in Asia and the colour gives o a sense of grandeur. This would be appropriate for One Elixir for its target clientele. Monochromatic also sets a great contrast against bold colours, creating a playful vibe yet exuding grandiose upon entrance.

COLOUR INSPIRATION

A trip to Vietnam, sipping on a pretty and delicious cocktail overlooking the Hoi An River. The chaos, the ambience surrounding the bar and the bright colours of the ancient city inspired the colour palette for One Elixir. The design goal is to recreate the same ambience for the bar but with a softer and classy approach. The colour palette of this cocktail gives o a fun yet seductive vibe.

Further observation and research suggests popular cocktails around the world have a similar colour palette. Cocktails such as grasshopper, cosmopolitan and pina colada resemble these exotic cocktails in Vietnam. One Elixir's design concept is based on the world's cocktails with its selection of colours and interior.

LIGHTING

LIGHTING RESEARCH

The client speci ed specialist lighting is required for the bar and alcohol display areas. Further research that complements the interior colour palette suggests subtle use of neon coloured lighting creates a "pop" e ect and sets a contrast.

Inspired by the bar in Copenhagen, art-deco inspired arches and colour schemes set the overall lighting for the bar. However, maintaining the fun and sophisticated interior scheme, subtle use of neon lighting will be used to highlight the focal area. Too much neon lighting could give a wrong impression of a club or discotheque instead of a relaxing lounge bar.

To create a clean, minimalist and modern look, linear lighting creates the e ect of an expanded space. This is perfect for the narrow hallway by the entrance. Linear lighting would be used to create an illusion of an expanded hallway and a futuristic welcoming for the patrons.

Sphere hanging o the bar shelves could be too distracting for clients and bartenders.

LIGHTING INSPIRATION

Observation from Ion Orchard, Singapore - the ceiling treatment is made of LED panels and mimics natural daylight adding natural light into the space and allowing the users to feel as if they are outdoor even though they are indoors. This inspired the lounge’s terrarium bench seating with a faux skylight made of LED natural daylight strip LED panels

FURNITURE

FURNITURE DEVELOPMENT

FURNITURE RESEARCH

The development of furniture pieces requires inspiration from various motifs to subtly add the postmodernism style to this space. Inspired by the mushroom, the wavy and transparency. The furniture was chosen to be a contemporary style to mellow the bold interior scheme.

Initially, swivel was chosen but this could be an inconvenience to the user with a disability. Also considering the weight of the furniture for the sta to move it around, especially for the open lounge area where it is also a exible event space for residents that wants to book it for their private functions. The built-in furniture in the middle of the lounge is also a centrepiece for the space but also provide seating for bigger groups.

Further research suggested that freestanding furniture would be appropriate for a bar like One Elixir. Any xed in-built furniture using heavy materials would have made the bar look too heavy. Bespoke designer-inspired furniture would exude exclusivity and make the client feel they are in an expensive setting. The furniture for One Elixir needs to be one of a kind. Inspired by The Future Ark in China, the skylight creates warmth and brings the outdoor ambience indoors. Since it rains so much in this country, One Elixir should maintain the same by creating a faux skylight that mimics natural daylight.

FURNITURE INSPIRATION

Inspired by the charming and grand bar at Baccarat Hotel in New York, the furniture selection chooses a contemporary design with bold colours. Since the entire interior of One Elixir is bold with so many di erent elements, without overwhelming the entire design furniture should be selected carefully. Red fabric furniture creates a sensual mood and enhances the appetite of consumers, therefore, bene ting the bar's sales. Neutral coloured fabrics, such as grey or beige, balance the boldness of the interior. The red fabric furniture against the monochromatic ooring creates a sense of grandness and a bit Gatsby inspired. One Elixir wants to maintain the interior scheme, therefore, bold coloured furniture should be used sparingly in appropriate places. The overall interior would be too overwhelming with colour and pattern clashes.

Since this is an exclusive bar, it is better to create bespoke pieces. Whilst that could be impractical for costs, it is easily done by sending it to produce in the Asian region as it will be cost-e ective. Some of the furniture pieces are inspired by furniture designers. For example, the lounge table was inspired by Chris Martin's Sanders Side Table made of glass, this material is expensive, therefore, acrylic would be used to create a similar e ect and complete the overall scheme. The glass table o ers airiness to the space and transparency which is unlike other elements in the interior that are opaque solid colours.
