Drive in, Drive Through

Born out of necessity of the pandemic, Drive in, Drive Through is a multi-purpose program which aimed to find the balance between utility and leisure in a time that demanded a revaluation of how we prioritize our program's adaptability. In this case I examine how might a site be utilized to maximize the sort of services that might be required to aid in the mitigation efforts of any kind of existential crises. In the case of recent events, one thing that was noticeably lacking in the pandemic response here in the United States was a lack of access to sustenance for those who had been told not to work and stay home to stave off further infections. So, it was the goal of this project to firstly create a food distribution center, and secondly to honor the historic Los Angeles Chinatown and it's rich cinematic history with a drive in movie theater which have seen a recent resurgence as a safe means entertainment in a city who was starved of it a time it needed it most. Below are two form finding diagrams that allowed me through these operations to create a massing that met the needs of both programs.
