SOCKWELL SOCKWELL Off Office ice DESIGN DESIGN STUDIO III - WORKPLACE DESIGN (CURRENT) CONCEPT The concept for the SockWell Office is that of Homegrown Revitalization which focuses on the political, social, and economic effects on the air quality over time and sustainability as a whole.

LOCATION The SockWell Office Design will take place in Chattanooga, TN which is already home to SockWell’s actual headquarters.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Students were asked to create an office space for a select well-being company in which branding, circulation, and personalization is to take place. The design should reference the various types of workers coming into the office every day, as well as nomadic workers and board members. The design and chosen location should work together to create a balanced, holistic, and energizing space.

GOALS The goal for this project is to design an office space that will bring about a sense of collaboration, well-being, and a taste of the local vernacular. The space will be adventurous, bold, and mysterious but will also highlight the serenity of nature and sustainability.

In order to keep up with the concept, curvilinear pathways were used in order to enhance the idea of the journey that was taken to get the Chattanoogan air quality to where it is today. The space also allows personalization without disregarding effective circulation.

RE-IMAGINING RE-IMAGINING Strozier Strozier LIBRARY LIBRARY STUDIO II - COLLABORATIVE PROJECT CONCEPT The concept for the Library of the Future is that of a Revolution in Time. Both spaces are meant to pay homage to the Napoleonic collection held in the Special Collections area and the technological advancements that have led design to where it is today.

LOCATION The library redesign will take place within Strozier Library on the Florida State University campus.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Students were asked to create an innovative redesign for the FSU main campus library where students, staff, and visitors will use the space for years to come. With the help of Strozier Library staff, specific user tasks were to be incorporated into the design in order to design for a futuristic learning space.

GOALS The goal for this project was to create two spaces for future students, faculty, and visitors to use efficiently while maintaining the Florida State identity. Though technology was used, users were encouraged to interact more with the space without technological help.

The Blank Canvas: Special Collections Plan highlights efficient circulation and inclusion of SPECIAL COLLECTIONS more storage and seating as current staff noted 1 that current methods of storage for students are 1/16" = 1'-0" not used. Having a large and central reception desk also enabled faculty to have clear sight-lines of all users whether in the gallery or reading room.

2

THE BLANK CANVAS: SPECIAL COLLECTIONS PERSPECTIVE

The Blank Slate: Special Collections Area was designed to be a space where students would be encouraged to look and learn about exhibited artifacts. With technology to lead them to site information in the gallery space and a selfie-taking location, users were encouraged to interact with the space in order for visitors to learn more about the collections.

AGING AGING IIn n Place Place STUDIO II - RESIDENTIAL PROJECT CONCEPT The concept for the Aging in Place Residences was a visual and tangible bridge but the idea of bridging the future, both in reference to designing a home that would allow the clients to adapt to their future needs, but also for the aging population to receive the design considerations they need and have not gotten.

LOCATION The summer residence will be located in Portland, OR while the winter residence will be located in Charleston, NC.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The goal for this project is to create two distinct but cohesive residences for a newly retired couple. The two residences should portray the local vernacular by using local architecture, culture, and materials as a way to bridge and address

functional and beautiful design with that

of accessible ADA requirements for the interior.

GOALS The goal for this project was to create a functional, effective, and comfortable space suitable for the clients and guests.

ARGONAUT ARGONAUT Off Office ice INTERIOR INTERIOR CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS - REVIT BASED CONCEPT The concept for the Argonaut Office Interior was that of teamwork and unity. As an office space, the design should allow easy flow between team members and departments.

LOCATION The Argonaut Office is located in Tallahassee, FL near the downtown area of East Tennessee Street.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The students were asked to a design that would meet the International Building Code and host a multitude of office events. Revit was to be used as a method to construct documents suitable for the actual construction of the building. Circulation and limited material usage were used in order to attend to acoustic issues and comfort throughout the office interior.

GOALS The goal for this project is to design an office space that will allow staff to mingle and work by providing access to daylight, effective circulation, and acoustics. Staff included the CEO, team members, and interns which were specifically designed for through the planning process.

DURATION January 2018 - March 2018 (9 Weeks)

CONCEPT

The Cardboard Furniture Project was made for a teacher at a local K-12 school who specifically requested a bookcase inspired by Florida State University and the book, Light a Distant Fire by Lucia St. Clair Robson. In order to brainstorm how the bookcase was to be constructed, the shape was inspired by the FSU spear, known as the university symbol.

LOCATION The bookcase would later be installed at the local Florida State K-12 School in Tallahassee, FL

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Students were to use AutoCAD in order to create the measurements for the bookcase or chair assigned to them by a specific K-12 teacher. The project was meant to inspire students to get to know more about furniture creation and modeling. A durable and usable creation was to be made for multiple faculty and students to use throughout the year.

6

FINAL CARDBOARD FURNITURE PIECE

Through weeks of working on AutoCAD to figure out measurements, finding cardboard, and assembling the bookcase together, the bookcase was delivered to the teacher and is now placed in her classroom for her twelfth and sixth-grade history class to use for storage. The bookcase stands at four foot six inches and is eighteen inches deep to hold a variety of books and items that students or teachers may happen to bring in.

DESIGN DESIGN P P h h osophy osophy Being from Lima, Peru and having lived in Jacksonville, Florida for most of my life, I am consumed by curiosity about our built environment, our place in it, and the lens through which we view the world. Becoming fully-engaged in our studies at Florida State University about the history of our craft, the rendering process, and the personal connections needed to make any space a home is what drives me to continue to design for the future. Needless to say, the past few years in the interior design program has taught me so much about our role as (future!) designers and has been nothing short of amazing. It astonishes me how our ideas affect the past, present, and future of businesses, leaders, communities, and more. Previous construction methods have also taught me how we can dig deeper and truly find more innovative ways to sustain a unique and delightful atmosphere. I believe it is our responsibility to use our education to provide for communities and its residents, providing a holistic balance for those who may not be able to find it themselves. I believe our efforts will allow the future to continue to grow strong towards a more sustainable, cohesive, and amiable world. It is not enough to design a creative structure but to find innovative ways in which every consumer is thought of, represented, and fully-immersed. I once heard that if you are the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room. I intend to stick to this saying as I would love to continue to learn in the field, university, internships, and work someday. Teaching at one point in my life would be the ultimate goal, but learning as much as I can is what I aspire to do! I am Alessandra Poma and the lens through which I design is one that facilitates community and one through which I may continue learning and growing for the entirety of my career.
