UPDATE THE CHURCH OF GOD OF PROPHECY

MARCH 2017

"Any church that is not seriously involved in helping fulfill the Great Commission has forfeited its biblical right to exist." — Oswald J. Smith

A CHURCH THAT IS NOT WINNING THE LOST—IS LOST!!! Not lost as in unsaved… but lost in it’s priorities. The purpose… the FIRST purpose of the church is to SEEK AND SAVE THE LOST… Feed My Sheep… Go ye therefore and teach all nations… It is the purpose for which God created the church. It is the mission Jesus gave the church. It is the calling to which Jesus called the church. It is the thing Jesus said he would make us to be… fishers of men It is the thing we do that Jesus promised us He would be with us But if we do not fish… witness… seek and save the lost… what are we… Lost… like a little boy who hit the ball and started running to third, but turned toward second, then toward first… but ran into the dugout. Too many churches are like that… flitting from place to place… from thing to thing… trying to find their purpose. They are frustrated, ineffective and they look silly. Rick Pendleton—Sermoncentrol.com

Winning The Lost To Christ For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10 The Great Commission And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsover I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. First Priority:

TO WIN THE LOST PEOPLE TO SALVATION!!!

Our God Must Be Reverenced His Word Shall Be Fulfilled and the Multitudes Gathered into the Church God’s Pioneer –A. J. Tomlinson (1865-1943)

W ho wants to challenge God? W ho wants to stand out in defiance of His Holy Bible? Too many have undertaken this already. They have been ingloriously defeated. Their bones are moldering in the grave while the Book itself and the God of the Bible still live on. W ho would be so unwise as to speak things they do not know, and undertake to trifle, or meddle, or interfere with God’s infallible and unfailing program? Those who would undertake to do so are nothing more than gnats in the hands of His almighty sovereignty. W hen only a small boy, a deep impression was made on my mind, when my father told of a man who had sent out a challenge to God. In loud boastful language he declared there was no God. He defied His appearance and cursed His name. The man was fearless and boastful. He was thrown into a dreadful rage when anyone would speak of God with holy reverence and fear in his presence. He made such ado about it that the whole country round about became interested and almost excited. People became aroused for miles around because of his wild and boastful expressions. At times he acted almost like a madman. In fact, he was mad against God and took a delight in letting it be known. It seemed that he deliberately decided to put God to the test and undertake to prove to the God-fearing public that there was no God. He announced a day and place where he was going to publicly and fearlessly challenge God. He constructed a high platform and made all of the necessary preparations. The day came and the people came by the thousands. The hour came and he walked proudly up on the platform. His blasphemous words of defiance were so vile that the people almost recoiled and retreated. It was only a few minutes until he struck the fatal blow as he challenged God, “If there is a God, strike me down,” he said, and if that was not done it would prove there is no God. Scarcely had he finished his last sentence when a little insect smaller than a gnat rested on the side of his neck. Instantly he fell in a heap upon the floor of that platform. That was the last of him and his blasphemous words of defiance against God. And the people felt a sense of relief and retained their same God-fearing spirit and showed even more reverence for the God of the Bible. This was a little like Elijah’s experience on Mount Carmel with the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal. There came a time when something had to be done to save Israel from the Baal worship. Elijah was God’s man to do it. He was only one lone prophet of the Lord while Baal’s prophets were four hundred and fifty. The multitudes were gathered together when Elijah walked confidently before them. “How long halt ye between two opinions?” came through the vocal organs of that man of God. “If the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him” (1 Kings 18:21). This was such a strange challenge that the people were speechless. But he did not stop there. He had gone too far to stop. As God’s representative and prophet he must vindicate God. The final test was made when Baal’s prophets called in vain until after midday for their god to answer by fire. But no fire came. Then it was Elijah’s time. W hen he called upon his God— our God— the fire “fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.” And when the people saw it, they fell on their faces and began to cry out, “The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.” In the time of the early Church there were some startling happenings that drove the people to God and put them in fear. W hen it was discovered by Peter, that mighty apostle, that Ananias and Sapphira, his wife, had lied to God and they both had fallen down at his feet, great fear came upon all the Church and as many as heard these things. W hile this fear prevailed there was a wholesale rush to the God of the apostles. The record states that multitudes, both of men and women were added to the Lord. Indeed, God is God, and He is the mighty God. He is the same mighty God that He has been in other ages. The words in His Book have the same weight as in days of old. It may be that we are nearing the time for the fulfillment of prophecy when the Lord is going to do some more of His strange work and bring to pass some more of His strange acts. He has done wonders in the past and will do more wonders as time moves on. In fact, His program must and will be carried out. No one need be incredulous or skeptical about getting the work done that must be done before Jesus comes. The every creature message must go to the every creature. All nations must be taught. Just as truly must all nations be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. After this is done, they are to be taught to observe all things that Jesus commanded His disciples. W hat is the use for this to be doubted? His words were spoken with power (Luke 4:32), and they have lost none of their original force. Others have doubted, but we must not. And according to these words it is not enough to merely tell the all nations and let them believe and accept the Lord’s doctrine if they want to, and if they don’t then can turn it down. But to obey the Lord we are under just as much obligation to baptize them and teach them to observe the all things a we are to merely give them the gospel. W e are to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God. W e must make them see. It is not a question as to whether they want to see or not, they must be made to see. No matter about the difficulties of such a task, it just has to be done. Isn’t God, God? Isn’t He back of His W ord? Could any force prevent Elijah’s proving to that skeptical mass of people that God was God? No, the fire fell in spite of all their unbelief and the four hundred and fifty Baal prophets that had shouted themselves

hoarse trying to get their god to comply with their request. Just as well expect God’s fire to fall now right in the presence of atheists, infidels and skeptical people. I tell you, my beloved fellow laborers for God and His truth, I believe what Jesus says about the every creature message, and the all nations activities. I absolutely refuse to limit the power of the Holy One. That is just what the children of Israel did when Moses was leading them from Egypt to Canaan. W e are warned against doing the thing that caused them to fail in the wilderness. I am going to believe God and His W ord. You are going to do the same thing. In Moses’ time the unbelievers and idolaters were destroyed under the wrath of God, but now, in these days, God is working differently. A few may be slain like Ananias and Sapphira were, but the masses are going to be walked into the Church of God in a similar manner to the way God walked the animals into Noah’s new ship. I tell you, they had to come. And God has just as much power over men as He had to convert wild, ferocious, bloodthirsty beasts into docile creatures so they could go into the ark. They could not go into the ark until they were saved from their fighting disposition and bloodthirstiness. And we are not supposed to take people into the Church till they are saved and promise to go on into all the Bible teaches. W hen the multitudes get into the Church, then comes the time for perfecting the Church. This, then, is the work of the ministers. “For the perfecting of the saints,” says Paul. And these saints re to be made up of the “all nations” that are to be baptized. “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto this measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13). Now I would have you to understand that this mass of human flesh is not going to be just a few as some would try to have us believe, but rather the all nations. Agreeable to this statement is Paul as he visions the finishing up time of the last days, “W arning every man.” W here is any left out? “And teaching every man.” Again I say, where is any left out? You know this is true. I am not alone. But traditions would have us limit this perfected mass of people to only a few. But we must break away from traditions and embrace and cling to the Bible as it is for us today in this great and mighty last days movement. The few would do for the past, but nothing short of multitudes are marked out for us today. “They shall not be few” says the prophet. And this refers to those who are to be glorified. “I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.” W ho is He going to glorify? That mass of people that shall not be few and shall not be small. Paul says, “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (5:27). And we all know this is the Church of the Bible. This is the only institution that we know of that is to be glorified. Our work then is made clear. Our duty is plainly seen. Gathering into the Church the multitudes instead of only a few. All nations instead of a few from all nations. No wonder the missionary zeal is eating us up. No wonder the states have been having the spirit of friendly rivalry in trying to raise the most money. And when this spirit, like a garment, is thrown over the people they give of their means when they don’t want to and when they do not aim to. Some have acknowledged that very thing to me. This is like God getting into the legs of those wild beasts of the forest and walking them into Noah’s new ship that had never before been loaded with a cargo. Neither has the Church ever been filled, but it W ILL BE FILLED, and the last method to be employed to finish filling it will be the compelling method. This principle was shown by the cows that were yoked up to the new cart loaded with the “ark of the covenant,” taking it back to its rightful owners. The cows did not want to go and leave their calves and their home. But they went anyhow. They had to go, God got in their legs and made then go, just like He got into Mr. And Mrs. Lion and Mr. And Mrs. Giraffe and made them go into that big ship that had been filled. To show that the cows did not want to go, the record states that they “went along the highway, lowing as they went.” This is the work of our God. And HE IS OUR GOD. I wonder if we may have some doubters and incredulous ministers in our ranks who are helping us pull the load and yet they grumble as they pull. I wonder if God makes them help us when they prefer not to. I wonder if they low like the cows and still help us pull the Church and its work along. They may not like the W .M.B. and say----“money, money, money, everything is money.” Still they pull and keep right on the highway that leads to the goal. The cows took the ark to the big harvest field of Joshua before they stopped, even if they did low and grumble and long to be back at home with their calves. Some of these grumblers, if there should be any, are making a bee line for the big harvest field where the golden grain must be reaped. Thank the Lord for the helpers whether they want to help or not. God make them help. They have to help or they wouldn’t. Just this year a man called me and gave me money for our missionary work and grumbled as he gave it. I held out my hand and smiled while he grumbled and pulled the money out of his wallet. As he handed me the money, I had a spell and thanked him for it while he looked glum and sour. I knew the Lord made him do it. But he was buying souls and by and by he will get his reward when he sees the souls his money purchased. His grumbling will cease when he gets his eyes fully open so he can see the blessedness of service, and full recognize the power of God, and the greater work for which we are responsible. W ith Jesus, let us altogether say, “My Father worketh hitherto, and I work” (John 5:17). “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (9:4). And I shall never expect to be satisfied until I have the assurance and evidence that every member in the Church of God is a worker.

Carbon Hill: W e had a revival with evangelist, Larry Trotter.

“Oh Lord, pour out your blessings in 2017 upon Alabama.”

Chickasaw: This has been a wonderful start to the New Year. W e have some interesting youth services. If you ever come south near Mobile, stop in at Chickasaw to visit. W ednesday night is youth service each week. W e always have a great time and you might get to see Bible characters come to life!

W infield City Family: Looking for God to do great things in 2017! Keep praying for us! Still working on the new building on Hwy 129. His promises are “yes” and “a m en ”.

Cunningham Bridge: W e are praising the Lord for Tanner W illiams who joined by covenant on January 29 th. W e are waiting for the creek behind our church to warm up a little before he follows in obedience to our Lord for baptizing. Please pray for warmer weather so this young man can follow in believer’s baptism. God is so good!! Fayette-North Pointe: Recently, the Holy Spirit made His presence known to us in a mighty way. People were in the altar seeking God for whatever needs they had. Praise and worship was powerfully anointed. The presence of the Holy Ghost was so real. People even came to the altar during the invitation song. It was like being in an old time Pentecostal service. That’s what it takes, praying one for another and asking God to have His way. Fort Payne: W e thank God for Barbara Moody becoming a member. Gadsden-Living W aters: Praising God for opening doors into our local school. Brother Sam Farr has just received permission to go into eight of the schools here in our area and pray over them prior to classes beginning each week. Praying for revival in our schools. Green Pond: The new year has started with revival glory. M any have participated in the twenty-one day fast, and, God is moving and revival is being experienced. The services have been awesome. A singing with our local talent was wonderful. W e enjoyed the spiritual food and a great fellowship lunch followed. W e are a blessed church. Hackleburg: Thank God for revival this month and receiving a new member, Tabitha Jones. Leesburg: Our goal is reaching out into our

Tips For Abundant Life community and sharing God’s love. W e have begun by coordinating several Life Groups that are meeting on the 2 nd and 4 th Sunday night. Our work continues on our new Family Life Center which will be used to help us reach this goal. Our W ednesday night outreach continues to grow and we have been able to purchase another van. M entone: Thank the Lord for two individuals receiving salvation this month, Van Battles and Adam Battles. M oulton: Thank God for a soul coming to Him. Pelham: W e are thanking God for 2 new members this month. Short Creek: W e began the year with our twenty-one days of prayer and fasting. W e had several youth to attend the W inter Conference and returned with wonderful testimonies to share. The power of the Holy Spirit was surely felt as they told of the awesome services and experiences they received. W e love Camp Boothe and appreciate everyone who gives of their time and services to be such a blessing to the local churches all over the state. W e have youth that were called into the ministry and several are planning to go on mission trips in the fall. To God be the glory! Tarrant: January...Burrr...it may have been cold weather outside...but on the inside we were warmed by the Holy Ghost Fire. W e entered into the year of 2017 with the 21 days of prayer and fasting. Doris Eades, one of our sweet ladies, laid her husband to rest and he will be missed very much. Everyone is excited about our making plans to go to the Fields of the W ood in June.

Carolyn Guyton Expectancy. I recently saw this quote by W ashington Irving, “Great minds have purposes, others have wishes.” W hat is the difference? Those with purpose expect results. Others just wish it were different. This is certainly true in our spiritual walk and churches as well. W orship Services. I have had the opportunity to be a part of the camping ministry at Camp Boothe for the past few years. This is truly a life-changing experience. The services at camp have always been exceptional and it just seems that there is even more power and freedom now than ever. God is no bigger there than in our local churches, so why don’t we see that kind of intense worship and deliverance in so many of our churches? I believe one of the reasons is expectancy. The campers, as well as the staff, come to camp expecting awesome experiences. Do we go to church on Sunday expecting? Prayer. The W ord tells us to pray believing. Is it possible to pray believing, yet without expectation? W e can pray believing in God and His authority, but does that mean we are truly expecting the answer to our specific request of Him? Do you expect answers or just wish it were different? You. W hat do you expect from yourself? Do you expect to move forward and achieve great things for God? Do you expect to succeed? Are you working to fulfill your purpose or do you just wish things were different? Continued on next page.....TIPS
