Let Down Your Net Bryan Baysinger – State Evangelist

“Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your Word I will let down the net.” Luke 5:5 Have you ever felt the way that Peter did in the story told by Luke. Peter and his companions had fished all night and caught nothing. They were all ready to go home and retire to bed. Then Jesus came along and instructed them to let down their nets again. Although Peter may have been doubtful; he was nonetheless obedient and the results were amazing. Their nets broke with the multitude of fish that were caught.

We all encounter times in our life when we don’t want to let down our nets anymore. These are difficult times in our life when we had just rather “give up” because we feel that we have toiled and toiled and we still don’t see any results of our labor. It seems that all of our prayers have fallen on deaf ears and our seeds have been plucked up by the birds.

Many times this is the situation when it comes to evangelism. I have heard pastor after pastor and member after member say, “we have tried that before, and it didn’t work.” I would say that these pastors and members are doubtful and tired of letting down their nets for a harvest; only this harvest is for the souls of men and not fish.

The wisest man who ever lived, King Solomon, was given his wisdom by God, and he has instructed us in the value of diligence. In Ecclesiastes 11:1 we are told to, "Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days," and in verse 6 we are told, "In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not withhold your hand; for you do not know which will prosper; either this or that, or whether both alike will be good."

The Apostle Paul taught us in I Corinthians 3:6 that one will plant, another will water but it will be God who gives the increase.

You see it is not up to us to determine whether or not a harvest takes place at any given moment in time. God is the one who saves! Our job is to sow. Our job is to cast the bread upon the water, knowing that in due time a harvest will come when the seed that was planted has been watered and cultivated and has reached maturity. Then God will harvest that soul where the seed was planted by you and I. Consider this - maybe you are called to water where someone else just planted the Word of God into an individual's heart. You may not have had any idea that you were there to water and not to plant; but God knows. The next Child of God coming along may water again or they may be able to harvest that soul for Christ, but only because someone else planted the seed and kept it watered until it took root.

Most people do not come to Christ with the first introduction. It is a process and we are called to be a part of that process, no matter how long it might take for each individual.

Remember also that we are building the Kingdom of God and not our church. While we all would like to see our church buildings filled to capacity we must remember that when we do evangelistic work it should be about bringing people to Christ and not just to bring people to our church. Hopefully, if we do enough outreach then we will also see our church buildings fill up but our first responsibility is to build the Kingdom of God. Do not become weary in sowing the seed but be diligent. "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith." Galatians 6:9 The law of sowing and reaping is this! You will reap what you sow, be it good or bad. This is a Biblical principal! So, do not be doubtful or grow weary, but LET DOWN YOUR NET AGAIN!!!!

Splinter Free T. J. Armstrong

Last night I had the opportunity to spend most of my evening in the local emergency room. What began as a splinter in my hand three weeks ago, had slowly developed into a problem that required more attention. Now having an unsightly abscess at the base of my index finger, I was eager to relieve the pain. I dislike hospitals, but my level of pain had finally topped my level of pride! Bear with me, I assure you that I have a point to this story.

"What we're gonna do is numb the area with lidocaine, and then lance your hand to relieve the pressure." The doctor made it sound pretty simple, but I'm not big on needles. I'm a big guy, and don't fear much--but the smallest needle will make me cry like a baby! My nervousness kicked in. I was excited about finally taking care of this issue that had been hindering me for weeks, but was nervous about the methods that the physician had described. Could he spray some topical anesthetic on the area instead? Could I take something orally that might help? I didn't want to give him complete control. Suddenly I was at the point to make a decision-- if I was going to get better, I had to trust the physician and allow him to do what needed to be done. I was getting an injection.

After the nurse cleaned my hand, the doc approached me with a needle that was at least six feet in diameter. Ok, maybe not that big, but that's how I saw it! He inserted this beast under the skin in my hand, and everything was fine until I felt the lidocaine going into my body. This was undoubtedly the worst pain I've ever felt in my life! I squirmed and clenched my other fist as the doctor made about five injections of 100% fire into my hand and finger. I wanted to cry, really I did-but if the beautiful woman who accompanied me to the ER (also a nurse) was going to see me cry, it's gonna be over a chick-flick or a homeless puppy; something that would earn me brownie points for being "sensitive", not a wimp who can't take a needle.

The only thing that allowed me to press on was knowing that once I endured a few seconds of pain, this situation was going to be completely taken care of. I knew that the doctor knew what he was doing, and it was going to be worth it. In a few moments, I was completely numb, and my abscess was gone. The doctor then gave me an antibiotic prescription to help fight off any infections that might be present, or try to come in the future--and I was on my way.

I realized that this is how we approach other areas of our lives as well. Sometimes, we have a burden or situation that is hindering our productivity as a Christian. If left alone and not treated, the problem grows bigger and more painful until we take it to the Great Physician! If I had handled my splinter properly in the beginning, my situation my have never grown to the size it had become. We must address our hindrances with a quickness! If we don't they will grow into situations that we can't handle on our own.

The doctor had completely sold me on the end result, but I was desperately praying that there would be another way to fix the issue without the pain of a needle. When we seek The Great Physician for help, we don't always agree with His methods of how to fix the situation. We want the best end result, but we don't want to face the pain that is required sometimes to fix what we have failed to handle properly over time. While we might not agree with the way God is repairing a situation, we must trust that He knows what He is doing! Just like the lidocaine that burned coming out of that needle, sometimes we have to endure the pain that comes before the Peace!

The doctor gave me a prescription to help fight off infection. Sometimes a little bit of infection comes into our lives unbeknownst to us, and quickly develops into something much larger. It's great to know that we have a "antibiotics" to help protect us against the infections of this world! Prayer, meditation on God's Word, and fasting will help us overcome and prevent infections!

If you have a "splinter" in your life that's hindering your productivity as a Christian, I encourage you to give it the attention that it needs to be fixed completely. Don't trust that things will just "get better" over time. We must take the proper measures to keep our lives hindrance and infection free!

PS-- The needle was probably about three feet in diameter......

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Jesus lived with and mentored His disciples for 3 1/2 years. Paul mentored Timothy and instructed him to commit the same to faithful believers who would teach others also. (2 Timothy 2:2) North America is committed to equip and develop leadership at all levels, with excellence as it is our goal to raise the bar of effectiveness in ministry.

HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERMENT The Church of God of Prophecy in North America seeks the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in all we do. From prayer to harvest to leadership development we recognize that we are utterly powerless to accomplish these goals without Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:8)

Alex City: Our services have been touched by the Spirit through the Word of God. The transformation is taking place in individuals not moved by emotions but by the Spirit Love, patience, and humility is creating unity for spiritual growth to happen.

We know through growth is pain, but our outlook (mind of Christ; attitude of Christ) determines our outcome. We see more and more the importance of training to contend for the faith in gentleness and respect in this world. We focus so much on activities and other ways to draw people in, but we need the church to be Christocentric! As the Body of Christ in Alexander City we are experiencing new things from the Lord through His Word. This foundation will allow us to not be shaken but strive for the faith.

We are saddened with the death of two of our members in one week. Brother Virgil Moody and Sister Gladys Gillum. They were very precious to us and will be greatly missed.

Bayou La Batre: We are coming off our lowest average in months. We have recovered and have a few new people committing to help as we begin our community projects. We will not be detoured from our mission.

Chickasaw: Good things happening.

New visitors continue to come and we are so thankful for these. The “Breakin Chains” sung at the Celebrate Recovery meeting at Saraland Methodist. Our pastor and wife attended this weekly meeting for those who struggle with addictions. Some of our youth are in training to help these youth having problems. The director expressed gratitude for our youth volunteering in this worthy cause. Nathan Tadlock and Cody Parmer continue to meet after school for devotions and praying for their classmate’s needs. One day they

had 11 kids with 2 teachers attending.

Our district met at Chickasaw and Pastor Walter DeGeer brought a wonderful message. We are on the winning side and God wants us to be “Players” on the field of life and not just “Fans” sitting in the stands. He compared it to a “Football Game”.

Good fellowship followed.

Our “Prayer Portal” with Sister Donna Howard, Anita Falkner and Whitney was filled with the sweet presence of the Lord. From beginning to closing God touched our hearts as we were ministered to by these sweet anointed ladies.

The worship, songs and messages were “Heaven Sent”. We did not want it to close and the feedback has been great!

Fayette-North Pointe: North Pointe welcomed new members Aimee Rogers and Jessica Dean this month. We also began two new Sunday School classes and the new Children’s Church Ministry. The congregation held a celebration luncheon on the 19th to honor Pastor Brent and Anita Smalley on their 29th Wedding Anniversary. All enjoyed the fellowship and food in the newly remodeled fellowship hall with new tables and chairs. We also had a baptismal service the 5th baptizing 15 believers. Some came from other churches to participate and worship with us. We continue to thank God for meeting and supplying the needs of His people and pray for His direction as we move forward in proclaiming the gospel

of Jesus Christ.

Gadsden-Living Waters: We had our “Sweetheart Dinner” at the “Top of the River” and the food, nature and Spirit was so special.

The Sweetheart Couple was Brother and Sister Sam Nichols. God has blessed in so many ways here until we are still in a cloud. Sister Wyrodick was wonderfully healed after she had fallen at home. She had not walked in over a week or driven a car. At church that Sunday she was able to teach but that night during the preaching by Matt Rose, Sister Wy begin moving behind the pew and being blessed. Brother Wy and some others were running around the church rejoicing in the Spirit. Sister Wy moved out from the pew and God took over. She was drunk in the Spirit dancing up the aisle! She was laughing in the Spirit and the Lord told her to go to a member in the wheelchair and unlock it for them to go marching around the church. They began running as God poured His Spirit out.

It was wonderful! It was beautiful!

Yes......we stayed late! Sister Wy remarked “It was the biggest and the most special blessing. She had never done anything like this in her Christian life!” When God so wills, we do all things through Him! Goodwater-Joyful Praise: Joyful Praise Woship Center ministered a Valentine Dinner for the adults which delivered a wonderful turnout. The youth and children ministry shared a Valentine’s Banquet with 30 children in attendance.

Greenpond: Lord, we offer you praise.

He is blessing our church and the services have been outstanding. The ladies enjoyed a Valentine Brunch.

Trina Ludvik spoke on “Love Is A Cross”. We were truly blessed with her teaching. A Gideon Representative

visited and shared information of their work. Many souls are saved through this great ministry. Youth night was fantastic with Shane Pate as guest speaker and the drama team presented two dramas. One hundred and twenty were in attendance with many of those from WOW. The altar was filled with the youth seeking God and He is opening doors through this ministry.

Bibles, prizes, great food and many other surprises were given out.

Grove Hill: I wanted to shared the blessings happening at Grove Hill.

Last Sunday Brother John Douglas ministered to the congregation and he shared one young couple was in the altar praying and the Spirit of the Lord truly ministered to many. Today the Lord’s Spirit continued to move. As the service opened with prayer for the Sunday School and the needs that had been shared, one sister came up seeking God, crying in the altar. As we started class, our adult Sunday School teacher shared that he felt like we just needed to gather and pray for one another. We spent the entire Sunday School in prayer for each one there. The Holy Spirit continued to move in our worship as it was evident that His Spirit was leading us deeper into His presence.

We also had a young lady who has been there the last two weeks and she shared that she has full plans to remain.

She has gotten connected to the church from the Friday night youth/young adult gatherings that one of the young couple’s began in their home. God blesses those who leave the building to reach the community. Praise God! Hackleburg: Incredible presence today, 1 salvation, several seeking more, 176 in attendance and 33 of these were Children’s Ministries.

We announced today we are 5 weeks away from moving into church....we are in the 4th quarter of this rebuild, praying for strength, grace and mercy! God has once again sent some amazing people to help us on our rebuild. A group of 47 volunteers from Crossroads

Community Church in Indiana worked so hard, making great strides in getting our final stage of rebuilding close to complection. Words cannot express how very grateful we are to God and the Body of Christ for sowing into our ministry. They cleaned, painted, hung doors and cabinets, laid tile and landscaped. Thanks to their efforts, we plan to worship in the new sanctuary on Easter Sunday, April 8th.

Haleyville-Pathway: Our year is off to a good start. Our Food Ministry is still operating and helping people in our area. God has blessed us with what we need to keep it going. The third Saturday breakfast and Bible study is also going well.

Harris Chapel: We had a wonderful revival with Evangelist Nicholas McSpadden.

Some received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We are hungry and thirsty for God and His will. We had good attendance, even tho several of our people were out due to sickness. The flu bug seemed to find his way into many of our families homes (including Pastor Ramsey), but most are better at this time. God is doing great things at Harris Chapel.

Hartselle: Our men’s service had dinner and a movie. We watched “Courageous” that deals with what we go thru today. Pastor Chris brought all the men of the church to some resolution that was in the movie and they all signed it. Continue to pray for us that we can bring souls to Christ.

Huntsville-Mastin Lake: February was a great month of worship. Our young couples celebrated Valentines going bowling and dinner. Our seniors began a fellowship luncheon and devotion and our children celebrated Valentines with a party of games and snacks. As a member of the Alabama Food Bank we provided groceries to 30 families in our community. We thank God for this ministry.

Leesburg: The Wednesday night Adult Bible Study Group just completed a series of lessons on the “Parables”

taught by Kenley Farly. Children’s Ministries had a fun “balloon night.”

They began the night eating hotdogs and making their own ice cream sundaes followed by a “balloon devotion.”

Chase Douglas made balloon animals for all the children; then Danny and Pat St. Clair led them in a variety of balloon games. Youth Ministries had a “scavenger hunt.”

Two teams were sent to several houses and competed in various games on a time schedule with the winner being the first team to make it back to the church.

They ended the night with a lock-in at church.

Parrish: We are having a great time at Parrish. The Lord is truly in the house with new people coming in the Sunday morning service and returning that night with their guitars to worship. We had a great time with the moving of the sweet Holy Ghost and seekers in the altar. We experienced a wonderful revival with Brother and Sister Baysinger and I encourage each pastor and church to use this man. They truly love the Lord and want to work for Him. Pelham: The month of February seems to have come and gone so swiftly but there was a sense of excitement through out the month. We have been having wonderful worship services which would flow into the preaching of “the Word”, with people in the altar. One couple, just a week ago after being in the altar, testified how the Lord came into their life and the wife said she had never felt like this in all her life. She was raised in the Lutheran Church. We were honored to have Dr. H. E. Cardin who taught the remaining of the book of John, that he had taught previously.

He did a fantastic job of opening up the Word so that we the students were able to glean the “Meat of The Living Word.” Love was in the air as the youth department put the finishing touches on their Valentine Day Banquet. They worked especially hard for this banquet as a special event to

draw supporters to assist them in raising funds to attend the International Youth Conference in North Caroline.

Those who attended the banquet commented that they experienced a spirit and atmosphere of unity, love and teamwork on display by the Pelham youths. The fellowship hall was beautifully decorated, with the Servers all dressed in back and white. The youths were very polite and professional as they served the people a five-course meal.

Many were impressed with the idea of a homemade palate sorbet, along with an elegant, gourmet meal. The youths, under the direction of Youth Pastors, Emerson and Shaana Pope, worked really hard to show members and other supporters a special Valentine’s Day atmosphere.

Russellville-Living Word: We took about 15 youths to the Winter Jam in Birmingham. We all had a great time.

Short Creek: Youth Ministry has been selling dinners to boost their funds and attended Winter Jam in Birmingham.

We have been enjoying WOW Wednesday feasting on the Word and Worship. The Children’s Ministries had a “Night Out” at Chucky Cheese.

Senior Ministry met for fellowship and Women’s Ministry had a night of prayer and praise. We are “Women of Grace” digging deeper into the Word in 2012. The Holy Spirit is moving in a great way. We thank God for saving, sanctifying, and filling with the Holy Spirit a young lady from our community.

Sylacauga-Power of the Cross Worship Center: We continue with efforts to minister to the community.

On Saturday, February 25, we partnered with “SAFE” (Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement) and had our first “Keys to a Successful Marriage” seminar here at Power of the Cross. Since this was our first seminar, the pastor and his wife had to work along with SAFE”s facilitators, and are now certified to teach the seminar.

This program is grant supported by the

Federal Government and under the oversight of Auburn University. We had 6 couples and 4 individuals to attend, only 3 were from our congregation. This was another effort being carefully and prayerfully integrated into the foundational DNA of “Power of the Cross Worship Center” in presenting our church as servants and care providers for the families of this city. We are praising God for His guidance and help.

Tarrant: Our month started with the youth going to Winter Jam. I believe this was the best ever in all my years.

The Worship with Shoes on celebrated birthdays with the seniors at the Manor.

The Tuesday Ladies’ Prayer meeting went to visit Frances Mabrey (who is in rehab after suffering a stroke) on Valentines Day. Eleven ladies joined Donna Howard at Trinity for the Prayer Portal Conference and afterwards enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the Trinity ladies.

The Mighty Warriors met for the first time this year and had a blast. They are a prime example that you never get too old to enjoy life. But the best part of February was when we welcomed 5 new members into the church. Tara and Savannah Roseberry, Andy McBrayer, Jeff and Michelle Richardson.

God bless Tarrant COGOP. Twilleytown: For the love month our youth put on a Valentine Dinner Theater fund raiser and raised $300.

They were the servers along with the entertainment. Our guests were Sonny and Cher, The Jackson Six, Patsy Cline and the main attraction was Elvis.

Attendance was about 65.

We participated in the Community Valentine get together at West Jefferson High School with six churches represented and 200 in attendance.

West Blocton: Our church is on the move. We may be small but we are big at heart and working for the Lord.

Testimony

Marie Gothard, Pelham Church In October 2011, going to my mailbox, I had a feeling in my head that made me try to get to something to hold on to. I could not control my movement, and fell face down on the ground hitting my knee, stomach and head. Two men cutting trees across the street saw me fall (which was a blessing) they came to my rescue. My daughter-in-law took me to the ER and they did x-rays, cat scan and when results were read, a large tumor was found in my head. The Dr. later said “It had been there a long time”; and after surgery said, “It was largest he had ever seen.” Many prayers were sent up for me. As humans we all have apprehensions about things like this but I was not afraid. My son said to me, “Mama the Lord told me you would be alright.”

Praise God it was benign, no cancer! I stayed in intensive care 1 Ω days and was up on a walker. I came home the 3rd day. Jesus is the reason I am getting better every day.

I am 73 years old and know the God I serve and trust can do anything. I still am amazed how He took care of me driving. I am so thankful I did not have a wreck and harm someone else and when the tumor finally broke loose it was in my yard. I am so blessed. I know He has a plan for me. Jesus is so precious. I want to continue to live for Him and trust Him. The Doctors are amazed at my progress. He will see us thru all things if we trust His Word. I thank all who prayed for me.

A quote from Sister Eva Howard in 1986: “Miracles are not born of logic, they come when God fearing individuals trust and believe God for seemingly the impossible.” To God be the Glory.

When the surgeon released me, I thanked him and I also told Him I thanked God who gave him knowledge to do my surgery. I testify to anyone who will listen. Most people are receptive.

To avoid this fee the application and tuition must be paid in full and received the day prior to the beginning of each event. 100% of tuition is transferable within the same year, but non-refundable after day of registration. All Summer Camp registration will begin at 2:00 p.m. Gates will not open until appointed time. Due to insurance regulations, registration ends 24 hours after beginning of registration.
