Mausoleum for the City of College Station 2023

Adaptive reuse library in Brownsville, Texas 2023 - In Progress

01/ Judd Warehouse 2022 - Museum for Donald Judd Art Dallas, Texas The design’s approach focused on the specific urban condition of the site located south of Deep Ellum in Dallas, Texas. It was important to establish a link between the character of the program and the surrounding urban scene made up of an industrial quality.

DEVELOPMENT The design process began with the extensive investigation of the artist Donald Judd, an icon of the minimalist art movement.

To further understand his process, it was important to replicate his UNTITLED, 1987 sculptural piece.

The immersion into the art continued through a trip to Marfa were a majority of Judd’s work is located. The spaces created in Marfa work to connect the viewers to the art and the context it is trying to portray.

Although it is hard to upscale art to the scale of architecture, Donald Judd’s object and the spatial organizations that he investigates do begin to translate to architecture and could serve as inspiration for programmatic purposes.

The design also draws from the geometry of old factories and common industrial architecture. The angled elements of the roof provide abundant natural light.

02/ Bethel Memorial 20 22 - M a us ole u m College Station, Texas The proposed mausoleum works as an extension to the old Bethel cemetary which is a historic site on the outskirts of College Station, Texas.

With careful consideration of the site’s topography, the design developed with preservation in mind to limit changes.

SITE Considering the emotional state of visiting a mausoleum, the design is established on three beliefs: sensory response, empathy, and permanence. These beliefs were established with the program and user in mind to create a positive space that can endure the test of time.

03/ Por La Frontera 2024 - Library Brownsville, Texas This intervention is situated in Brownsville, Texas, a border town that has developed into a city of about 190,000 people with a mixed cultural community due to the proximity to Mexico.

EXISTING SITE The project stemmed from the lack of necessary infrastructure and the need for literacy engagement in Latino communities.

Furthermore, the project makes use of an existing building in the downtown area as a way to stimulate

city as it ranges from commerce, trade and tourism.
