ACCOUNTING Students interested in pursuing a career in accounting typically enjoy quiet, independent work situations. Career options include such positions as income tax preparation, cost accounting, auditing, governmental accounting, public accounting or general accounting. Among the skills taught in this program are how to record financial transactions, produce payroll, collect on accounts, and use spreadsheet and database applications. Opportunities for employment include entry-level based positions at companies that require care for their financial records and transactions, from government agencies to healthcare offices. Depending on the position and the size of the business, employees might perform a wide variety of tasks, such as manage financial statements and other records, payroll, bookkeeping, prepare and collect invoices, make bank deposits and more.

Students can earn an Accounting Associate of Science degree or diploma, with certificates in Office Accounting Specialist, Payroll Accounting Specialist, and Computerized Accounting Specialist (embedded in the degree/diploma). Graduates will qualify to work as accounting assistants, payroll clerks, accounts receivable clerks, and other accounting related professionals. OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION For students interested in continuing their education toward a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree, Albany Technical College has agreements with Albany State University, Georgia Southwestern State University, and Valdosta State University.

BUSINESS HEALTHCARE TECHNOLOGY To keep up with the ever-changing world of healthcare specific technology, this program emphasizes widely used software and technology. Students are introduced to accounting fundamentals, electronic communications, internet research, electronic file management, and healthcare regulation and compliance. The diploma and certificate programs are fully online classes, and the diploma program offers an internship program. Students will learn to communicate effectively and be able to use and recognize terminology common in office management and technology innovations. The Business Healthcare Technology program teaches skills in team building, critical thinking, communication, leadership, management, multi-tasking, and technology. The Business Healthcare Technology program has an Internship program in the diploma and associate degree programs. This program offers an Associate of Science in Business Healthcare Technology degree or diploma with specializations in Business Healthcare or Practice Management. Graduates will qualify for jobs in areas such as administrative support and supervisory and management positions within the healthcare and business industries. The program also gives students the knowledge needed to be certified as a National Certified Medical Office Assistant.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT This program helps develop students’ analytical skills while increasing their business knowledge by providing them with well-rounded knowledge of business operations and management functions. Students learn effective leadership skills while increasing their overall knowledge for managerial positions for both the public and private sector. Students will develop a broad understanding of business organizations and will learn subject-specific skills in the areas of customer service, finance, teamwork, presentations, management, operations, communication, and business policy and strategy. Graduates of the program receive a Business Management Associate of Science degree with specializations in General Management, Human Resource Management, Operations Management, Service Sector Management, or Small Business Management, or a diploma with Technical Certificates of Credit (TCC) in Supervisor/Manager Specialist. Graduates will qualify for general management, human resources personnel, retail management, sales and marketing management, and administrative services management.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION Pathways for graduates to continue their education are established with Albany State University, Andrew College, Columbia Southern University, DeVry University, Georgia Military College, Georgia Southwestern State University, Mercer University, Valdosta State University, Indiana Wesleyan University and the University of Phoenix.

With online sales experiencing tremendous growth, many businesses are shifting from the traditional brick and mortar environment to online operations via e-commerce. One of Albany Technical College’s newest degree programs, E-Commerce is designed for students interested in entry-level opportunities in the field of internet marketing and internet commerce. The program is a blend of business, management, marketing and information technology courses, preparing students to seek employment in the electronic commerce field or seek career advancement in their current position.

Students will earn an E-Commerce Associate of Science degree and will qualify for jobs in areas including advertising copywriter, e-commerce consultant, web design or maintenance, online sales, market research analyst, e-commerce analyst, and many administrative level positions.

MARKETING MANAGEMENT Today’s marketing and management positions require qualified employees who can strategize, build brands, and promote and sell products or services. In this program, students will learn how to define marketing opportunities, the strategic marketing process, manage sales teams, hone their professional sales skills, and plan, execute, and evaluate marketing strategies. The Marketing Management program includes courses that teach skills such as consumer behavior, integrated marketing communications, marketing research, visual merchandising, and professional selling, buying, and merchandising. Students will earn a Marketing Management Associate of Science degree or a diploma with specializations in Marketing Management, Entrepreneurship, and Retail Management, and a Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) in Entrepreneurship (both either embedded in the diploma program or standalone). Graduates will qualify for marketing associate level positions in advertising and promotion, market management, digital marketing, public relations, retail and others.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION For Marketing Associate of Science degree graduates interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree, Albany Technical College has agreements in place with Albany State University, Andrew College, Georgia Military College, Georgia Southwestern State University, and Valdosta State University.

ADMISSIONS TESTING

ATC uses the Accuplacer-Next Generation exam for measuring proficiency in reading, writing and math. Applicants must achieve minimum admissions scores on the exam as specified in the program state standards or acceptable scores on a statistically validated test such as the SAT or ACT. Program-specific entrance scores are a minimum requirement, and higher scores may be required. Reasonable accommodations are made during testing for those who need them. (The examiner should be notified prior to testing.)

FINANCIAL AID

ATC offers several types of financial assistance to help qualified applicants pay for their education. Funds are available through the Federal Pell Grant, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Work-Study and the Georgia HOPE programs. Students may also receive assistance through the Job Training Partnership Act, operated by the Georgia Department of Labor, or the Veterans Educational Assistance Program, administered by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Sufficient financial assistance is available to provide the opportunity for eligible students to attend college. Grant and scholarship programs operate on an award-year beginning in August and ending in July. Students must apply or re-apply each year to receive or continue to receive financial aid.

ATC offers over 200 certificate, diploma and associate degree programs designed to provide students with the most marketable skills for the fastest-growing fields and professions. We stand behind that promise by providing a warranty for all our graduates. Any graduate who does not meet the program standards will be re-educated at no cost to the graduate or to the employer.

Albany Tech is charged with providing education opportunities to the residents, businesses and industries within a seven-county service delivery area. These counties include Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Lee, Randolph and Terrell. Today, more than 3,000 full-time students are enrolled in credit programs per semester. Another 2,500 are enrolled part-time and in seminars, continuing education courses, teleconferences and customized business training. All of our graduates receive job placement services from our Career Services department. The result? Ninety-eight percent of our graduates are employed.
