News Around the Club November 19 November 26, 2021
Dear A.C.C. Family, As we have recently concluded the 2021 fiscal year and have just mailed out ballots for our 2022 Board of Directors class, it is time for a brief “State of the Club” update. To begin with, 2021 has not been the year we all hoped it would be. COVID is still impacting operations in a major way and, in addition to that, we now have major supply chain and labor constraining issues. The team here has done a great job planning, adjusting, and trying new things to combat these external forces that are beyond our control. I don’t want to offer any predictions but based on the information available to us in trade and industry webinars and ar ticles, I believe all of these things will continue to affect us in fiscal year 2022. With this in mind, for our new year, we have budgeted for increases in our expenses club wide, including staff wage increases to keep the great staff we have as well as attract the new staff that we need to provide the services you all enjoy. We also continue to focus on following best practices in addressing short and longterm facility needs. This past year we addressed some urgent needs like replacement of the a/c units in the1946 Grill, repair of the failing steps at the golf shop, rebuilding the loading dock at the clubhouse, addressing needs with the golf course maintenance equipment, and keeping up with the hundreds of other small projects that if all goes as planned you never even know about! Our capital dues fund is stable and on track with the Reserve Study we conducted several years ago to meet our planned needs for the next 57 years. During fiscal year 2021, we were also able to address some lingering drainage issues that were not part of the original golf course project. Perhaps the most visible change to campus this year was the completion of our new pickleball courts and multisport court. (The resources that made this addition possible are described below.) This corner of campus now has a fresh new look, bright colors, and lots of activity! Much of this activity is due to the strong growth in our membership in 2021. This past year we had a lots of new member families join with children. This is why we have invested in our Youth and Family programs with a new position hired (Marcy McAdams). With the addition of these new members, we are now over the 500member mark! With membership being the lifeblood of the Club, it is important to preserve the value of membership through policies and their implementation. There were two major policy changes this past year that are designed to do just that. The first is one that we have communicated through very targeted conversations with members who are considering leaving the Club. Previously it was not uncommon to see a recently resigned member, a month or two later, using the Club as a guest in multiple areas of the Club (within the respective guest policy). In an effort to address this, and to avoid knee jerk resignations followed by a return shortly afterwards, the following policy came into being: A resigning member will not be allowed to use any of the facilities as a guest for a period of one year. The exception to this is as an attendee of a wedding, business function, or charity fundraising event. In addition to this policy, the Non Resident category of membership was reviewed extensively after discovering several inconsistencies in our historic administration of the category and taking into consideration the terms of our Athletic membership category which did not exist at the time our NonResident category was created. Both the membership committee and the Board spent considerable time examining the “why” behind the category and the various ways in which the term “nonresident” can be defined. After looking at multiple factors, challenges and opportunities, the Board has decided that in the fu ture, ACC will no longer offer a NonResident category as an option. Current NonResident members are not affected by this and will retain their status, unless their circumstances change and they become residents again, or they wish to change to the Athletic category which allows [describe the golf course differences that might be favorable – I’m not sure if it is greater access or access at a lower cost]
