Notes From The Basileus

Greetings Sorors,

Welcome to February, the month of love! This month we celebrate Black History and Valentine’s Day. I hope you feel Black Pride and experience moments of heart-felt love every day of the month. Since our January meeting, our Standing Committee Chairs and Officers met for the 2023 Eboard Kickoff meeting. We had a wonderful time of sisterly bonding while Sorors began planning and preparing to best serve you. Sorors, we are at our best when we feel connected while working together sharing our time and talents. If you have not yet signed up to serve on at least one Standing Committee, please sign up now using the provided QR Code.

Here are a few reminders:

1) Dues: If you did not pay your 2023 dues and Regional Conference Assessment by February 1st, you have now incurred a lapse in membership. Please email: treasurer@akaduo.org if you still need to pay your assessment and dues. If there are circumstances pertaining to your dues that you would like to discuss, please contact me.

2) The 94th Far Western Regional Conference: Registration is now open. Information about registration and hotel accommodations have been emailed. Additionally, guests can now purchase tickets to the Masquerade After Party through Eventbrite for $50. Please spread the word so guests can purchase tickets to this “Masked Affair”. Check your email for more details.

3.) Delegates: We will vote on delegates for Regional Conference at the February chapter meeting. You must meet the requirements as outlined in our Chapter Bylaws in Article V to be considered as a delegate.

I hope to see you at our February Chapter meeting and our Founders’ Day Observance immediately following our Chapter meeting on February 11th .

Sisterly with a smile, Kristie Thompson

God of Stillness

Soror Val Thomas Matson—Chaplain God of stillness, quiet my soul. Bear witness to my deepest fears & desires.

May we in stillness find strength to join in deeper union. For my soul’s desire; rest, restored for true communion. We who raise our voices to praise you with shouts of adoration, quiet our songs. Let our praises be still to discern your whispered gifts to lift us even higher.

God of stillness, quiet my soul.

Paraphernalia Swap

"Time to Clean Out & Share"

Most of us have more paraphernalia than we know what to do with. Why not search through your stash and set aside those items that you no longer want or worse yet can no longer fit into? For the next two months there will be a table set up for "Nalia Swaps" After chapter meeting in February and March, browse the table and help yourself to what catches your eye. The price is definitely right. "FREE". Don't forget to share your items as well. Any items remaining will be disposed of according to AKA guidelines. Contact Soror Shirley Young for more details.
