Greetings,
To the Salisbury Rowan community, Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc ® ., is pleased to present our annual FASHIONETTA ® . The FASHIONETTA ® is a nationally trademark program of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The 2025 FASHIONETTA® is an opportunity for young girls in grades three to eight to develop social skills, participate in community service and showcase their talents. Registration started in January and the sessions concluded in June. There were a variety of sessions and the girls were exposed to different activities; one such activity was our first Career Fair in which professionals educated our youth on their careers. Each year a session is held on dental hygiene in which they learn important facts about caring for their teeth.
FASHIONETTA ® provides educational and cultural experiences including, fashion, etiquette, creative dance. The participants and escorts even learned to waltz. The annual Mother-Daughter Tea allows the girls and their mothers to dress in tea party attire and participate in a “tea” experience. Prior to the tea the girls participated in making their own fascinators.
Proceeds raised from this event are used to support programs and activities that uplift our communities. In addition, each year eight scholarships are awarded to high school scholars to provide financial assistance to access higher education. Many of the recipients are past FASHIONETTA® winners and participants.
Participation in this event is not only “fun” but provides life changing experiences gaining valuable knowledge and skills for future use. It is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a legacy that spans decades within Delta Xi Omega and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc®. The program is not only a platform for young girls to shine but also a stepping stone toward a bright future.
Delta Xi Omega continues to be thankful for our community partners. Our many thanks to the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., who taught our escorts the art of tying a bow tie. Our partners who provided access to spaces to host our activities. Rowan Public Library provided the Stanback room for our registration. Trinity Presbyterian Church fellowship hall was used to host our annual Mother-Day tea. We express our sincere gratitude to Essie Academy for use of their facility to host all of our session. We appreciate the generosity in providing access for our sessions. A special thank you to Livingstone College. For decades they have provided a venue allowing Delta Xi Omega to host our event in Varick Auditorium.
Finally, on behalf of the Delta Xi Omega Chapter, we congratulate our 2025 FASHIONETTA ® participants. Your dedication has made this event a success. In addition, thank you to our escorts and families for your support and commitment. Without each of you this event is not possible. Our youth and families give up their time but gain valuable skills and form lasting friendships. Because of you Delta Xi Omega maintains our ability to “SOAR TO GREATER HEIGHTS IN SERVICE”.
Sincerely,
Alisa Russell

Good evening, distinguished guests, community leaders, fashion lovers, and cherished friends!
OnbehalfofDeltaXiOmegaChapterofAlphaKappaAlphaKappaSororityInc,itismyabsolute pleasure to welcome each and every one of you to FASHIONETTA 2025 a celebration of elegance, empowerment, and excellence.
Tonight, we gather not only to witness beauty and style on display, but to uplift a tradition rooted in purpose. For decades, FASHIONETTA has been more than just a fashion show. It has been a platform for young women to shine, for communities to unite, and for service and scholarship to take center stage. This year, that legacy continues.
FASHIONETTA 2025 brings together a dazzling array of talent, creativity, and grace. Our participants represent the very best of the next generation young women of character, vision, and leadership. They have spent months preparing not only for this night, but for the future that lies ahead. Let us applaud their courage, commitment, and composure.
This event would not be possible without the unwavering support of our families, volunteers, sponsors, mentors, and community partners. Your dedication to enriching the lives of young women makes a difference that echoes far beyond this evening.
So tonight, let’s celebrate tradition. Let’s celebrate growth. Let’s celebrate fashion, beauty, and brilliance. But above all let’s celebrate community.
Welcome to FASHIONETTA 2025!
Thank you,

Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.®
Delta Xi Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was chartered on April 19, 1947 in Salisbury, North Carolina by a dynamic group of visionary women committed to service and sisterhood. Clarissa K. Dillard was the Regional Director of the South Atlantic Region at this time. The charter members: Anne E. Drew, Julia B. Duncan, Permilla Flack Dunston, Marion E. Gunn, Lucille M. Satterwhite, Carrie M. Shute, Eloise M. Simpson, Tillatha M. Brooks, Beatrice Riggs Hall, and Lavolia W. Vails. These members had actively associated themselves with Alpha Xi Chapter, the undergraduate chapter at Livingstone College. However, by establishing a graduate chapter, they felt that they would better acquaint Salisbury and Rowan County with the many activities of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. This indeed was a memorable and welcome occasion. The chapter has also contributed to the community through its cultural and educational endeavors. The chapter was formally introduced to Salisbury with an elaborate “Coffee Hour” in the fall of 1948.
Delta Xi Omega has supported numerous initiatives in alignment with the international programs. Some areas of focus, women’s health including maternal health, economic empowerment, supporting the arts and working to empower our youth. A more recent initiative focused on Childhood Hunger in which the chapter adopted two schools and provide weekend snacks. The chapter has been intentional about raising awareness for Mental Health by hosting events to help eliminate the stigma associated with mental health.
The chapter since its conception has been a beacon for community engagement and educational advancement. The chapter received a grant from RIF/Coca-Cola Partnership to purchase a 120 hardcover book multicultural library. This library was presented to the Miller Recreation Center’s after school program that served at-risk youth in the Rowan-Salisbury School System. The Mayor and the Salisbury City Council recognized the chapter for their contributions to the community.
Partnering with Time Warner, Livingstone College, Isenberg Elementary School and Jerusalem Baptist Church, the chapter members tutored students in grades three through five who failed to meet grade level proficiency. Eightyfive percent of the students in the program passed the State End-of-Grade tests. The chapter donated 450 backpacks to schools.
Our environmental projects included renewing and restoring playground equipment, the picnic area and the kiosk flower bed at the Geneva I. Oglesby Community Center. The chapter donated a picnic table and playground game equipment to Kiddie Land Kindergarten. We also promoted recycling newspapers, plastic containers, cans, eyeglasses, and cellphones. The chapter is participating in “Adopt-A-Street” on Monroe Street from Fulton Street to Brenner Avenue.
Voter Education, Registration and Mobilization are important to our chapter. We “Soar” to the polls as a collective group and encouraged family and friends to vote.
In 2022, Delta Xi Omega Chapter celebrated its 75th anniversary. The chapter held a Gala to commemorate this momentous occasion. The Gala included chapter members and community members with a program, dignitaries, and a band. As a tribute to the charter members, Delta Xi Omega Chapter members attended Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, known as the “college church”, for Sunday morning service. Following the church service, the chapter unveiled the memorial marker in the Poets and Dreamers Garden on the campus of Livingstone College.
Through annual scholarships, community partnerships, and service projects, the chapter continues to make an impact on members of the community. The FASHIONETTA® is our Signature Program and a long-standing tradition for the sorority. It was created to help young girls develop a variety of skills in many areas such as etiquette, leadership and self-development.
Delta Xi Omega has a diverse membership of professional women. Our members frequently strive to be of “Service to All Mankind.”

Matthew 5:14-16
King James Version
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16 God's Word translation
14 “You are light for the world. A city cannot be hidden when it is located on a hill. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket. Instead, everyone who lights a lamp puts it on a lamp stand. Then its light shines on everyone in the house. 16 In the same way let your light shine in front of people. Then they will see the good that you do and praise your Father in heaven.
