Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® is delighted to host the 2024 Fashionetta™ our annual signature fundraiser. The Fashionetta™ is a pageant for females ages 8 to 14. The Fashionetta™ begins in January and concludes in June of each year. Members of Delta Xi Omega recruit girls in their churches, families, and communities to participate in this event. Delta Xi Omega members take pride in exposing young ladies to various activities, social skills development, proper hygiene, creative dance, learning the Waltz and even hosting a Tea Party.
The goal of the Fashionetta™ is two-fold. It creates an opportunity to allow the young ladies to embark on social development and serves as a way for the chapter to raise money. Proceeds from the Fashionetta™ contribute toward high school scholarships and are returned to the community through contributions and service projects. In addition to the young ladies serving as contestants, each is coupled with a male escort. The escorts also engage in activities that promote positive self-esteem, establish self-confidence, and introduce proper etiquette.
The members of Delta Xi Omega would like to thank our contestants, escorts, and their parents. Each of them is valuable to the success of the Fashionetta™ annually. The youth give up two Saturdays each month and countless hours of identifying meaningful ways to raise money. Participating in the Fashionetta™ takes commitment and dedication from our youth. Although the youth are required to work hard and give up their time there are just as many positives. The youth form lasting friendships, become more confident, and engage in many new activities.
Delta Xi Omega enjoys partnering with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated® of Salisbury who provided some workshops to our escort. We want to thank Trinity Presbyterian Church, Rowan Public Library, and Triple Threat Dance & Charm Studio for giving space to ensure our workshops, practices, and Tea Party had adequate locations for us to meet.
On behalf of the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Delta Xi Omega Chapter, say congratulations to our Fashionetta™ contestants. You are truly special individuals who possess a wealth of talent and skills. Without your participation, this major fundraiser would not be able to continue annually in our community. One of the many goals of Delta Xi Omega is to be present in the community. Thank you for allowing Delta Xi Omega to continue to be of service to mankind as we SOAR TO GREATER HEIGHTS IN SERVICE.
Sincerely,
Alisa Russell

June 2024
Greetings,
It is with great pleasure and excitement I welcome you to the 2024 FASHIONETTA PAGEANT sponsored by Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. On June 29, 2024, twelve young girls and their escorts in the Rowan County and surrounding communities are presented to family, friends and community members.
Over the past six months, we have had the opportunity to observe each of these outstanding and upcoming young girls and boys. They have garnished excellent citizen skills, they have developed their etiquette skills, and they have built new peer relationships. They have worked hard preparing to perform their talent and preparing their fashion while learning the meaning of team work.
On behalf of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Delta Xi Omega Chapter of Salisbury, NC, I wish to thank the parents of the Fashionetta Participants and Escorts for supporting this enriching experience.
May God continue to bless each of you and we encourage you to continue to support the youth of the community. Have a wonderful summer.
Warmest regards,
Shelia Brown-Miller

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®
A Brief History of Delta Xi Omega Chapter
On April 19, 1947, Delta Xi Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® was established at Salisbury, North Carolina by Clarissa K. Dillard, who was Regional Director of the South Atlantic Region. The charge granted by the International Conference listed the following names as charter members: Anne E. Drew, Julia B. Duncan, Permilla Flack Dunston, Marion E. Gunn, Lucille M. Satterwhite, Carrie M. Shute, Eloise M. Simpson, Tillatha M. Brooks, Beatrice Riggs Hall, and Lavolia W. Vails. These members had actively associated themselves with Alpha Xi Chapter, the undergraduate chapter at Livingstone College. However, by establishing a graduate chapter, they felt that they would better acquaint Salisbury and Rowan County with the many activities of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. This indeed was a memorable and welcome occasion. The chapter has also contributed to the community through its cultural and educational endeavors. The chapter was formally introduced to Salisbury with an elaborate “Coffee Hour” in the fall of 1948.
The Chapter has partnered with Susan G. Koman Foundation, Novant Health, YMCA, Cancer Society the local nurse’s sorority (Chi Eta Phi), and First Calvary Baptist Church to give blood pressure checks, heart health and stroke seminars, and adopted a healthcare facility. The chapter hosted their first Mental Health Awareness Seminar.
The chapter received a grant from RIF/Coca-Cola Partnership to purchase a 120 hardcover book multicultural library. This library was presented to the Miller Recreation Center’s after school program that served at-risk youth in the Rowan-Salisbury School System. The Mayor and the Salisbury City Council recognized the chapter for their contributions to the community.
Partnering with Time Warner, Livingstone College, Isenberg Elementary School and Jerusalem Baptist Church, the chapter members tutored students in grades three through five who failed to meet grade level proficiency. Eighty-five percent of the students in the program passed the State End-of-Grade tests. The chapter donated 450 backpacks to schools.
Our environmental projects included renewing and restoring playground equipment, the picnic area and the kiosk flower bed at the Geneva I. Oglesby Community Center. The chapter donated a picnic table and playground game equipment to Kiddie Land Kindergarten. We also promoted recycling newspapers, plastic containers, cans, eyeglasses, and cellphones. The chapter has “Adopt-A-Street” on Monroe Street from Fulton Street to Brenner Avenue.
Building economic legacy, the chapter hosted workshops on credit repair, common money mistakes, purchasing a home, financial planning, and knowing your economic worth. We support minority businesses.
Voter Education, Registration and Mobilization are important to our chapter. We “Soar” to the polls as a collective group and encouraged family and friends to vote.
In 2022, Delta Xi Omega Chapter celebrated its 75th anniversary. The chapter held a Gala to commemorate this momentous occasion. The Gala included chapter members and community members with a program, dignitaries, and a band. As a tribute to the charter members, Delta Xi Omega Chapter members attended Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, known as the “college church”, for Sunday morning service. Following the church service, the chapter unveiled the memorial marker in the Poets and Dreamers Garden on the campus of Livingstone College.

Remember What Is Most Important
It’s not having everything go right; It’s facing whatever goes wrong. It’s not being without fear; It’s not being without fear; It’s having the determination to go on in spite of it. Remember that every day ends and brings a new tomorrow. Love what you do, do the best you can, and always remember how much you are loved.

Psalms 23 KJV--- The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Dearest Harmonee, God fearfully and wonderfully made you into a beautiful, young girl who is curious and excited about His many wonders.
Know that your aunts love you very much. We hope that each day you will rejoice and be glad in it. Although each day may not be considered a good one, you can find something good in every day. Rejoice, smile, laugh, clap your hands, dance, paint, search for new adventures in books, learn more about the US presidents who you told us about or to one aunt's surprise that moons have their own sounds. Always be kind and loving to others as you continue to learn.
Love Aunt Linda, Aunt Angela, Aunt Robbie, Aunt Prissy
To our beautiful inquisitive niece, Harmonee. May you always have joy, goodness, and kindness in your heart as you grow and mature. Each time your name is spoken, unity, peace, friendship, orderly and pleasing is spoken into your spirit. Most of all may you reflect God’s love, patience, forgiveness to others and shower them with your beautiful smile. Know that you are loved by many, and not only are you the apple of your earthly father’s eyes but also your heavenly Father. Always strive to be the best you can be. We love you. Know that you are in our hearts.
Your Aunt Linda, Uncle Alan, and your cousin Curtis
