The month of March is designated as Self-Harm Awareness Month and March 1st is Self-Injury
Awareness Day. While great efforts are being made to fight the stigma associated with mental illness, selfharm, a common symptom associated with mental illness, is difficult to address. Self-harm is not typically a suicide attempt but can increase the risk because of the emotional distress that triggers self-injury.
