Regional Director’s Note Greetings sorors! This spring arrived full of hope and the promise of better days ahead. Many of us have received our COVID19 vaccinations and are eager to embrace our loved ones again, while still exercising caution in our new normal. The winter months and all of 2020 tested us and our ability to continue rendering service to all mankind. Despite the twists and turns COVID19 placed before us, we’ve emerged even more resilient and dedicated to service. As we prepare for a much needed summer break, I hope you are proud of the work you’ve done over the last several months. You have poured your hearts into making sure those in need had resources and items to get them through tough times. You have helped steer students toward college aspirations they never thought possible. You shared information with individuals and families that can help them purchase their first home or improve their credit scores. Thousands of little girls and boys in Haiti are proudly wearing the dresses and shirts you so lovingly created with your own hands. Mothers have diapers and other baby items, thanks to donation drives, and Feeding America is doing just that, helping families across our region sit down to a hot meal, thanks to your generosity. I am reminded daily of how marvelous Mid-Atlantic sorors are as I see your program fliers and learn about the creative events and activities you have implemented, even in the midst of a global pandemic. You made our first virtual Regional Conference a tremendous success and set the bar high for future conferences to come! Although we won’t have in-person international conferences this summer, we still have opportunities to learn and grow in Alpha Kappa Alpha. Our very own Mid-Atlantic Leadership Institute continues with sessions in June, and part two of our combined virtual Boule/Leadership Seminar in July. Watch your email for registration information and plan to attend. There will be a number of presentations and workshops you don’t want to miss. Thank you all again for continuing to do “a new thing” with such grace, dedication and love for our sisterhood and for our communities. Enjoy your summer respite, and if you can, embrace those you’ve missed over the last year. Soak up a bit of sunshine, sit on a porch, dip your feet in a pool or the ocean. Do something just for you! Have a safe and enjoyable summer sorors! With sisterly love,
