FEATURING DANIELLE DORSEY

Troy D. Moser, AIA
I would like to start my message this month by thanking everyone that contributed to making the 50th Annual AIA Las Vegas Golf Tournament a huge success You’ll find more details here in the newsletter but I would be remiss if I did not send a shout out to our sponsors, our amazing golf tournament committee and our tireless staff. You all went the extra mile to make this marquee event a 50th anniversary celebration to remember.
As architects we have the opportunity to, and responsibility of, making our communities better places to live, work, and Play As I “pen” this letter from yet another cross-country plane ride,
several of our members are out in the beautiful Southern Nevada spring weather volunteering as tree planters in celebration of Arbor Day This is yet another example of how AIA Las Vegas is engaging with our community and giving back to our local environment Thanks to all of you doing your part!
Our next series of events is right around the corner. We are looking forward to previewing the next generation of our profession via the High School Design Awards and the AIAS Gallery Exhibition, "Bridging the Gap" This event showcases the creativity and potential of the next generation of designers Please set aside a couple of hours to join me from 6-9 pm on May 1st for the exhibition opening reception There are still sponsorship opportunities to support the exhibition and the scholarship program, if you are interested, please contact the AIA Las Vegas office.
Additionally, our Membership Meeting on May 22nd, hosted by the Affordable Housing Committee, promises to be an engaging discussion on critical issues facing our communities You can also check the website
calendar of events for opportunities to meet up with colleagues through Urban Sketchers and the Small Firm Exchange
Finally, I will be traveling to Washington DC in June for AIA’s annual conference “AIA ‘24” As I have mentioned before, I want to be the voice of the organization, representing your thoughts and interests as I proudly attend these conferences and membership meetings on your behalf If you have ideas or concerns regarding our local, state or international organization, please reach to me so we can have a conversation I look forward to seeing you soon

I am a member of AIA because…
it helps me stay CONNECTED! I like to say, when you get to know the people, you understand the industry. The AIA offers a vibrant community with global reach, connecting likeminded professionals who share a dream to build a better world I am so proud to be a part of this amazing community
I believe, the AIA serves as a bridge between the Allied Members and the Design/Build community encouraging collaboration and mutual support Designing and constructing buildings is a complex and multi-faceted profession that is constantly evolving, especially here in Las Vegas. The industry is everchanging and adapting to new trends, ideas, legislation, and technologies. Being part of this conversation allows me to understand needs, stay relevant and support the complete industry
Since I have joined the local membership, I have benefited from many of the resources provided I have gained valuable industryinsights, utilized educational resources and CEU classes, and attended networking events I have established valuable connections, developed great relationships, and created memorable experiences along the way.
How would you introduce yourself to the AEC Industry? In a few sentences, share your passion, your vision, and your achievements in the field.
As an Allied member of the AIA, I am an experienced Account Manager of Specification & Design servicing the Engineer, Architectural/Design community representing Delco Sales. Although I have only been in Las Vegas since 2019, I have been a part of the AEC industry for the past twenty years. You may think my position is sales, but to me I connect and educate people My job is to make sure the correct product fits the right application I lead with passion and dedication connecting clients with knowledge and valuable insights, building trust for successful relationships
What inspired you to pursue a career in your field?
Honestly, I fell into this career path many years ago by accident Due to a series of life events and working in the pharmaceutical marketing world, I traveled around the world trying to find myself Returning home, I packed up my jeep and journeyed from Delaware across country to San Diego, starting my life on the West Coast. I fell in love with the pristine beaches, deep-sea fishing, palm trees and the sun!
In San Diego, I was offered a position as the Executive Director of the Plumbing Heating Cooling Association (PHCC) This was the beginning of a new journey in the AEC industry, which quickly became my family and my passion I am proud to have expanded the local trade
association, facilitated a plumbing apprenticeship program, an HVAC program and a program for troubled youth to succeed in our trade. As my career advanced, I stepped into another facet of the industry as a manufacturer sales representative Here I enjoy interacting with people, solving problems, and building relationships with amazing people It truly is my goal to help people grow personally and professionally and this industry has always reciprocated.
Are there emerging trends or breakthroughs in architecture that have recently sparked your interest?
Yes, there is a sexy and luxurious drain that I believe all architects should know about…the WallDrain by QuickDrain
As it is named, the WallDrain, is built into the wall instead of the floor surface It changes the entire look of the bathroom, offering a modern and sleek feel The water exits the downward slope of the shower pan into a drain channel concealed behind the base of the wall. A tile-inlay cover with high a powered
magnet is then attached to the shower wall leaving large format tiles with no visible drains. The tiled magnet is easily removed for effortless cleaning. Just beautiful!
Most people consider the linear drains to be new; however, the Roman and Greek bath Houses had it all figured out way before us They knew that that if they could create a slope to one line that they would be able to evacuate the water out of the building It was the perfect system Now, concealing the drain elevates this age-old idea, enhancing
both form and function WallDrain offers the ultimate in shower luxury and design innovation, pushing performance to its limit. It breaks our traditional rules of shower drain systems and goes beyond the limits of convention. It allows for modern, elegant tiles to create a spa-like bathroom right in your own house
Design is an integral part of the experience Elegance and performance working together in tandem, a seamless blend of style and engineering the WallDrain
What advice would you offer to you professionals starting in your field?
My advice would be
Be open to everything! Ask Questions Step out of your comfort zone Find a mentor Be kind to yourself Trust yourself Travel Take vacations Take Risks Educate Join a trade association or two Listen and respect your elders. Wear sunscreen.
Thank you to everyone who came and participated in the 50th Annual Golf Tournament!

From Capitol Hill to COP28, AIA's Advocacy team stands ready to empower architects to help lead national and global efforts to reduce and mitigate climate change
Architects are responsible for prioritizing and supporting practical actions to exponentially decelerate the production of greenhouse gases contributing to climate change. The Architects are Environmentally Responsible portion of AIA’s National
Policies and Position
Statements have been updated to reflect this imperative as we celebrate Earth Day 2024 Designing and constructing buildings that combat the greenhouse gas effect will improve our chances of repairing the planet while creating a
healthy, resilient, and regenerative future.
AIA’s Advocacy team continues working for the adoption of meaningful policies and legislation that will lead to a better and more inclusive built environment and calls for
architects to be present and engaged. The more architects advocate at the federal level, the more significant the positive impact on our architecture firms, the communities in which we live, work, play, and the profession
Here are the top five ways AIA has advanced climate action in the last year:
AIA strongly supported President Biden’s efforts through the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to bolster funding for programs at the Department of Energy and other agencies that incentivized state and local governments to adopt the latest building codes and programs to incentivize upgrading and retrofitting appliances and HVAC systems in buildings. AIA continues to urge Congress to support funding of these projects through the annual appropriations process
2. COP28: AIA attends the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference
AIA sent an official delegation to COP28 to raise awareness for the building sector, connect with
decision-makers and partner organizations, and advocate for policies that support decarbonization and adaptation ·
3. National Definition of a Zero-Emission Building
AIA submitted comments developed with member feedback in response to the Request for Information issued by the Administration on a National Definition of a Zero Emission Building for Operating Emissions AIA is committed to aggressively supporting the Administration’s efforts to drive zero emissions goals for buildings
AIA believes the greenest building is one that has already been built and supports the passage of HR 1785/S 639 by Congress. Rehabilitation and reuse of historic properties offer an important alternative to new construction as a strategy to help lower carbon emissions. The federal Historic Tax Credit is also an important economic development tool used to revitalize communities
5. Promoting Resilient Buildings Act
The bill, which AIA supported, was passed unanimously by the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee. HR 5473 is now on its way to the full Senate The bill was passed out of the House of Representatives in December 2023. It will allow AIA members to design resilient building projects that promote health, safety, and welfare and mitigate the effects of natural disasters in their communities using funding obtained by local and state governments through these grant programs
