Subject Title Examination Board Qualification Subject Code Assessment GCSE Art, Craft and Design Edxexel GCSE 1PY0 Component 1- Personal Portfolio = 60% marks This component is made up from the coursework pupils complete in Year 10 and term 1 of Year 11. The current title is ‘Identity’ you will have a 1 x 5 hour timed session (Nov Yr11) to complete a final piece for Component 1 Component 2 – Externally Set Assessment = 40% marks This title is set by the exam board on the 2nd January – pupils then submit their preparatory work and have a 2 day (10-hour timed exam to create a final piece)

Subject Overview

Pupils will develop transferable skills, such as problem solving, communication and critical thinking skills, which will prepare them for further study or the world of work, regardless of the subjects or career they wish to pursue.

Pupils will learn how to use a digital SLR camera and gain an understanding of the camera settings. They will have the opportunity to work with a range of processes and techniques including Photoshop. During the course pupils will explore the work of other photographers, artists and designers and explore how they can communicate their own ideas and interest through photography.

The assessment objectives are • Develop ideas through investigations, demonstrating critical understanding of sources • Refine work by exploring ideas, selecting and experimenting with appropriate media, materials, techniques and processes • Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions as work progresses • Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and demonstrates understanding of visual language

Course Content

During the first 2 terms of the course, you will build skills in: • Aperture • Shutter speed • Planning a photoshoot • Uploading photographs • Creating a contact sheet • Digital image manipulation, • Mixed media • Photographer and artist analysis • Idea development • Experimenting with materials and presenting work.
