Every pupil has 2 x 1 hour lessons of physical education each week, along with 1 games afternoon. However, if a pupil chooses to follow the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership in Year 10 (see page 33) then this will take place in one of these core PE lessons.

Pupils are introduced to a wide range of activities to encourage them to participate and to prepare for their future health and well-being.

Great emphasis is placed on developing team co-operation, tactical awareness, leadership skills, a reliable attitude and self-discipline. This should ensure a high standard of safety, hygiene and personal organisation.

Pupils are encouraged to develop and demonstrate an ability to transfer skills between different activities as well as foster analytical capabilities. Being able to identify their own and others’ strength and weakness is a key element of personal development and one which is fundamental within the core Physical Education curriculum.

Activities include:

Athletics Basketball Badminton Cricket Cross-Country Football Gymnastics Handball Health Related Exercise Lacrosse Netball

Further Choice in Year 11 includes: Self-Defence Golf Yoga Pilates Zumba Outdoor Adventurous Activities Rounders Rugby Swimming (including personal survival) Table Tennis Team Building Tennis Trampolining Volleyball Waterpolo
