The contract for the removal of the 2 x ZPMC-A & 5 x Noell QCs was awarded in December 2022 As of mid-April, 4 units (2xZPMC A and 2xNoell) have been removed and the last batch of the remaining Noell QCs will be shipped out before end of May

The removal project forms part of the QC replacement planning, which saw the arrival of 7 new QCs at the Lower Berths in Q3 2022.
3 x QC Replacement (Lower Berths)
The fabrication of the cranes’ structure is progressing well with the girder and boom for the 2nd unit completed. These new cranes are expected to be shipped to PTP by the mid August 2023.
Temporary Empty Container Storage
Four areas were identified in Q3 last year as temporary empty container storage areas with an estimated capacity of 60,000 TEUs. As of mid April, all four areas have been handed over for usage, with three of the areas are now stacked with empty containers
Higher Berth QC Rearrangement
A consultant has been appointed to simulate various quay crane arrangements, with a specific view at the ZPMC-B & -C fleets at berths 1012 The quay simulation will determine what type and number of cranes will be required to handle current and forecasted future customer proforma. It will also assess the effect of PTP’s capability with an increased number of Ultra Large Container Vessel (ULCV) cranes.
In parallel, a tender for the mid-life refurbishment of the ZPMC-B & -C cranes will be floated in April 2023 The final quantity of cranes to be refurbished will be determined based on the outcome of the quay simulation
35 x e-RTG (Capacity and replacements)
The contract to procure 35 new e-RTGs was awarded to Mitsui in November 2022 and currently the design alignment is under finalisation. A team from Mitsui visited PTP at the end of March to assess and understand the operating conditions for these RTGs.
48 x e-RTG (Replacements)
PTP’s Board approved the procurement of these replacement units in Q4 2022 The tender for the supply of these units has been floated with a targeted delivery for the first 30 units in 18-24 months upon award As for the remaining 18 units, the procurement will be decided later this year and is subjected to PTP’s volume outlook.
PTP is committed to reduce its carbon footprint and has developed its own environmental sustainability roadmap.
One of the first tangible steps is to explore and evaluate fuel alternatives for Prime Mover operations – for example Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), electric propulsion and hybrid solutions.
In February this year, PTP signed an agreement with Terberg Tractors Malaysia (TTM) to carry out trials using one of their electric prime movers.

The trial run will be for a period of 3 months with the support from TTM in relation to training and maintenance required throughout the trial.
The prototype unit was delivered to PTP in midMarch 2023.
At the same time, further engagements with other PM suppliers are explored to enable PTP to assess more data and verify actual performance of alternatives.
