welcome Revenue - Reform - Resources For the 21st Century This year’s Annual Leadership Institute event includes a multitude of opportunities for learning and discussion • David Herbel will launch the conference on Wednesday, August 29 with an overview of Association initiatives as a background for the generative thinking that drives our annual Leadership Event. • On Thursday, Kathleen Griffin will again join us to discuss the latest developments in Medicare payment models, including innovative shared savings and risk plans. • William Dombi, National Association for Home Care and Hospice, will initiate and participate in an interactive live discussion on the post acute care continuum and how health care reform will affect providers and partners. • Billing experts Julie Kearney, Betsy Anderson, and Janet Potter will update participants about the current issues in Medicare and Medicaid billing. On Friday, we have invited Leah Killian Smith to provide a detailed overview of the upcoming ICD-10 changes and their effect on nursing home billing. • Because an effective team approach to revenue cycles is critical to success, we have invited back Clint Maun for a five hour intensive on the four critical elements of the revenue cycle: admissions, rightness, marketing, and sales. Although this track is intended for administrators and program managers, interested billers are invited to attend.

We will look at the SNF PPS Final Rule for Fiscal Year 2013 and determine what changes must occur operationally and financially due to the new requirements. This session will review the Medicare billing procedures from a compliance point of view. Just because your facility is receiving payments from Medicare, does not mean everything is correct. Each organization should have a triple check process in place to ensure that every claim is accurate. We will help you determine ways to ensure compliance. This session will initiate a discussion of compliance, quality, patient safety, and the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement program and methods to integrate these concepts into a single framework. Kevin Evans, Aging Services of Michigan Deanna Mitchell, Aging Services of Michigan Session 2I - Governance and Compliance in the Not for Profit World This session is aimed at senior management, governance, and compliance officers. It reviews the impact of health reform on corporate compliance activities, and covers compliance issues of growing importance such as Board Liability, internal control of compliance information, governance structure, and board education. L.P.A Brian Kaser, Brian Kaser PLC Session 2J - Make the Most of Development and Implementation of Compliance Plans Skilled nursing facilities are required to develop and implement compliance plans no later than March 23, 2013 per Healthcare Reform legislation. The clock is running out and now is the time to review the Compliance Plan Guidance issued by the Office of the Inspector General. This session will review the seven required elements of a compliance plan and provide practical guidance on how a SNF can ensure they have an effective plan. Session 2K - Medication Management to Reduce Risk It is not a secret that resident care issues have become increasingly more complex and in turn, so has the medication regimen. The result is an increased risk for adverse events and polypharmacy to manage side effects, both of which further complicate resident care delivery and medication management. To safeguard against the occurrence of medicationrelated adverse events, a collaborative team effort among the physician, nurse, pharmacist, and even the resident is key. This session will discuss the overall goal of the pharmaceutical services system within a facility and its usage to ensure the safe and effective use of medications. Brian Dimit, PointClickCare Session 2L - Are All Your Bases Covered? What Your InHouse or Contracted Therapy Provider Doesn’t Know Can Place You at Compliance and/or Financial Risk. During this session you will learn the key compliance questions to ask your in-house or contracted therapy provider to determine your potential risks in the provision of therapy services under SNF PPS Part A and Outpatient/Part B. Therapy services continue to be scrutinized and with the population aging, federal and state audits and enforcement efforts will increase. If you do not have an effective partnership with your therapy provider you can be at risk as well as be “leaving money on the table.” Compliance programs will be mandatory for SNF by March 2013 and SNF should incorporate therapy services into any program. As a moderator, you will be trained by Aging Services of Michigan staff to introduce speakers, distribute and collect evaluations and validate CEU forms. Please indicate your willingness to volunteer when you register online or by contacting Ken Robbins at Ken@AgingMI.org.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Persons who have registered and submit a cancellation request via email by Friday, August 17 will receive a full refund. Cancellations must be submitted by email and will be acknowledged by return email. If you do not receive an acknowledgement after one week following submission of your cancellation, please contact us. We cannot accept cancellations by phone. Cancellations submitted less than 10 calendar days prior to the conference date and those registered but who did not attend will be required to pay a processing fee equal to 50% of the registration fee. Registrants who find they are unable to attend may send a substitute and should notify Aging Services of Michigan of that plan in advance of the conference. Exceptions to the refund policy may be made as deemed appropriate by Aging Services of Michigan staff. Any requests for an exception must be made in writing.

Scramble on the Greens

Join us for the Seventh Annual Scramble on the Greens Golf Fundraiser! This event is scheduled Thursday, August 30, with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Grand Traverse Resort and Spa’s newest course and Gary Player’s signature course in Michigan was designed to be flexible and playable with four sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all abilities. The course is enjoyable for highhandicappers yet can be set up to be a true test for professional tournaments. The Wolverine has distinctive nines. The front nine is woven through water and wetlands. The back nine is constructed on rolling highland terrain with hardwoods and views of East Grand Traverse Bay.
