‘We drew upon our experience in the catering sector to make a number of recommendations to Bia Álainn on how they could ensure added comfort for customers as part of their overall dining experience,’ says Damien. Calor powers the kitchen’s double fryer, Zanussi grill and four-ring gas range with oven. The fuel allows precise and immediate temperature control to ensure consistent quality results, as well as a visible heat source – clear advantages over electricity.

Situated in Bunclody, County Wexford, the brasserie style restaurant overlooks the River Clody and offers a wide range of international dishes, specialising in fresh seafood and steaks. Head chef Jonathan O’Neill holds seven AA Rosettes and leads Bia Álainn’s kitchen in creating innovative and stylish menu options for his demanding clientele. The restaurant caters for up to 100 customers with dishes including Irish west coast lobster, herb crusted pave of salmon, and pan-seared monkfish. The requirements and talents of such a skilled team demand a quality result that only one fuel can provide. ‘Our chefs need the precise temperature control and results that only gas can deliver,’ explains Restaurant Manager Damien Mekitarian. ‘Cooking on Calor gives a consistent result, with fish and meat being

Reliable fuel – perfect results Calor powers Bia Álainn’s catering and heating equipment. Nine out of ten chefs prefer to cook on gas because of its speed and instant controllability. Its blue flame and rapid cool-down make it visible and more responsive than cooking with electricity. But LPG’s benefits go beyond pleasing the chef. The fact is that by cooking with versatile, cleaner LPG you can reduce running costs and emissions. Calor powered fryers and hobs are more efficient, using up to 20% less energy and producing up to 40% cost savings compared to their electric equivalents. So you serve great food, your business saves money, and the environment benefits from less CO2.

Calor further recommended that Bia Álainn benefit from LPG powered outdoor radiant heating, allowing greater use of its outdoor facilities. The additional heating encourages diners to enjoy the two terraced areas even when there is a slight chill in the air, making the most of Bia Álainn’s outdoor ambience. The heaters are wall mounted and provide instant, easily controlled heat for both terraced areas. They maximise energy efficiency as they can be adjusted to direct heat precisely to where it is required. ‘We’re delighted with the result,’ says Bia Álainn’s Damien Mekitarian. ‘From start to finish, Calor provided us with sound advice tailored to our business and based on their obvious experience. Feedback from customers and staff has been extremely positive and we feel the benefit of a reliable, single fuel source that powers our business.’
