Implications – Afton perspective
Additive companies
Future specification changes mandated as OEMs are frustrated with current industry approach
ILSAC GF-6 specification lifetime at least 8 years
Potential for specification proliferation – ILSAC, GM dexos™, IFC
Oil marketers
Multiple category changes requiring relicensing, rebranding and/or re-labelling
No technology shift associated with initial changes has negative commercial impact
Additional market cost of specification proliferation
NA OEMs
No meaningful oil performance improvement in line with MY25 EPA emission legislation change
No proactive industry approach to address application needs e.g., warranty issues
Unable to effect meaningful change within current industry consensus model
• New specifications are delayed or diluted or both

Afton Proposal
We strongly support GF-7 development
we want a new category
We want GF-7 introduced as soon as possible
ILSAC proposed timing means GF-6 lasts 8 years
Likelihood of further delays increases with the complexity of the category
Spec lifetime of 5 years is better than 10 years
We support challenging yet achievable limits in GF-7 that correlate to tangible product improvements that benefit OEMs and consumers
We believe current GF-6 specification is weak and allows sub-standard technology to be licensed & marketed, which does not help OEMs achieve future mandated performance improvements for vehicles and avoid warranty concerns

Industry Implementation of Afton GF-7 Proposal
Afton believe that real performance advantages beyond GF-6 can be delivered now
We believe the Afton proposal benefits all stakeholders in the lubricant industry
Need to remove “consensus committee’ barriers to timely adoption of advanced technology
Afton proposal offers ILSAC the performance and protection requested in the original GF-6 category definition
Tightens defined warranty specification to delete sub-standard GF-6 oils from the market
Meaningful performance improvements in a timeframe aligned with legislative changes
Commitment to timely development of new performance tests for future GF-8 category
Industry are aligning behind an accelerated and simplified GF-7 category
ILSAC issued draft specification requirements April 2023
Afton will commit to develop a new platform candidate dataset supporting the revised ILSAC GF-7 proposal
