Entanglements Onlosmakelijk Verbonden Hoewel er grote verschillen zijn in taal, cultuur, onze manieren van leven en communiceren tussen de culturen in onze wereld, is er een onstuitbare verbondenheid die ons allemaal omvat en waar we allemaal deel van uitmaken.

Ook in de momenten van fysiek isolement voor onze veiligheid is er een gevoel van gemeenschap. Omdat we weten dat een individuele handeling van een van ons honderden anderen kan raken. We ondergaan dit allemaal samen en we kunnen het alleen samen oplossen. Het is deze verbondenheid en de intimiteit die daaruit voortkomt die Afro_Vibes dit jaar op de voorgrond plaatst.

Entanglements While there are great differences in language, culture, ways of living and communicating between cultures in our world, there is an unstoppable entanglement that embraces us all and of which we are all a part. In the moments of physical isolation for our safety there is also a sense of community.

Because we know that an individual act of one of us can affect hundreds of others. We all go through this together and we can only solve it together. It is this entanglement and arising intimacy that Afro_Vibes places in the foreground this year.

I Listen You See – dans | Tunesië | 2019 De Tunesische choreograaf en hiphop danser Hamdi Dridi liet zich voor zijn nieuwe voorstelling inspireren door de alledaagse bewegingen van werkende mensen. Drie Tunesische dansers geven in hun dans uitdrukking aan wat ze hebben meegemaakt, als dansers en als jonge mensen.

‘In ons land ben je nooit alleen danser, maar werk je er altijd naast. We bouwen huizen, we maken schoon en verkopen dingen’.

Tunisian choreographer and hip-hop dancer Hamdi Dridi was inspired for his new performance by the everyday movements of working people. Three Tunisian dancers express in their dance what they have experienced, as dancers and as young people. ‘In our country you are never a dancer alone, you always work next to it. We build houses, we clean and we sell things’.

Een reis in dans van de Senegalese choreograaf Babacar Cissé naar het hart van de menselijke relaties, de dynamiek van de groep en de menselijke natuur. Wolven en mensen. We vinden de alfa, de dominante mens; de bèta, die de roedel leidt; de omega, de zondebok. Iedereen heeft zijn plek in de groep.

De vraag is: integreren of emanciperen. ‘In La Meute til ik de zeggingskracht van pure hiphop dans naar een ander niveau, naar het doel van dit werk, de relatie met de ander’.

A journey in dance from Senegalese choreographer Babacar Cissé to the heart of human relationships, the dynamics of the group and human nature. Wolves and humans. We find the alpha, the dominant human; the beta, who leads the pack; the omega, the scapegoat. Everyone has their place in the group.

The question is: integrate or emancipate. ‘In La Meute I take the expressive power of pure hip-hop dance to another level, to the purpose of this work, the relationship with the other’.

Le Syndrome de l’Exilé - dans | Senegal | 2011 Wat gebeurt wanneer je je geboorteland moet verlaten.

Een dansvoorstelling over ballingschap van choreograaf Babacar Cissé. Bij sommigen overheerst de pijn van het vertrek, bij anderen hoop op een betere toekomst. Het syndroom van de balling is het besef dat ballingschap ook een spiritueel proces is. Dat je niet alleen een plek achterlaat maar ook een deel van jezelf. ‘Dans staat voor leven, het is een weg naar de ander…het legt de poëzie van het gevoel bloot. Vanuit die verwondering heb ik deze solo geschreven’.

What happens when you have to leave your native country.

A dance performance about exile from choreographer Babacar Cissé. For some, the pain of leaving dominates, for others hope for a better future. Syndrome of the exile is the realization that exile is also a spiritual process. You leave not only behind a place but also a part of yourself. ‘Dance stands for life, it is a way to the other ... it exposes the poetry of feeling. From that amazement I wrote this solo’.

Symphony of 2020 – dans | Oeganda, Nederland | 2020 Een Nederlands-Oegandese dansvoorstelling over de muziekscene in Oeganda & Nederland. We leven in een wereld waar samen dansen niet meer vanzelfsprekend is. Maar de behoefte om te feesten en het leven te vieren is groot. In een legale coronaproof rave brengen tien dansers je met constante elektronische muziek in een hypnotiserende trance.

Een mix van Europese en Afrikaanse muziekstijlen neemt je mee in een wereld waarin dansen transcendentie mogelijk maakt. Waar lichaamsgrenzen vervagen en dans en spirituele ervaringen één kunnen worden. Laat je meevoeren vanaf je stoel en voel de energie!

A Dutch-Ugandan dance performance about the music scene in Uganda & the Netherlands. We live in a world where dancing together is no longer self-evident. But the need to party and celebrate life is great. In a legal coronaproof rave, ten dancers bring you into a hypnotic trance with constant electronic music. A mix of European and African music styles take you into a world where dancing makes transcendence possible. A dance performance where body boundaries blur and dance and spiritual experiences can become one. Let yourself be carried away from your seat and feel the energy!

With Numerology Henry wants to get a picture of meanings in his life. ‘There is a lot of information about your identity in your date of birth and your birth name that determine your life cycles, such as your talents, opportunities, pitfalls and trials and your true inner self’.

Choreografe Donna Chittick laat met vier dansers het alledaagse leven van een vrouw zien en de levenskeuzes die op haar pad komen. Hoe verwerk je belangrijke levensgebeurtenissen? Wie beïnvloeden je op je levenspad?

Welke rol speelt je leefomgeving? In Together duikt Donna dieper in onze beweegredenen en vertelt een verhaal dat de dagelijkse werkelijkheid van mensen raakt.

Een reis door de tijd naar het gezamenlijke koloniale verleden van Nederland en Zuid-Afrika. Kunstenaars uit beide landen vertalen hun visie hierop in zang, poëzie, dans, beeldende kunst en theater. Tijdens de interactieve wandeling worden live optredens afgewisseld met 360 graden video’s en audiofragmenten, die de bezoeker op een tablet volgt. Het publiek gaat mee op reis door de tijd langs verschillende historische locaties in de stad.

Choreographer Donna Chittick together with four dancers show a woman’s everyday life and the life choices that come her way. How do you process important life events? Who influence you on your life path? What role does your living environment play? In Together, Donna delves deeper into our motives and tells a story that touches people’s everyday reality.

A journey through time to the collective colonial past of the Netherlands and South Africa. Artists from both countries translate their vision into song, poetry, dance, visual art and theater. During an interactive walk live performances are interspersed with 360 degree videos and audio fragments, which the visitor follows on a tablet. The audience is taken on a journey through time along various historical locations in the city.

Numerologie – dans, performance | Nederland | 2020 De Nederlands/Ghanese choreograaf Henry O’Tawiah maakt in zijn hiphop theater-dansvoorstelling Numerologie een persoonlijke reis op zoek naar z’n roots en de vragen die opduiken. Een reis vanuit het geloof dat we niet toevallig op een bepaalde geboortedag en op een bepaalde plek met een specifieke naam zijn geboren. Met Numerologie wil Henry een beeld te krijgen van betekenissen in z’n leven. ‘Er zit veel informatie over je identiteit in je geboortedatum en je geboortenaam die jouw levenscycli bepalen, zoals je talenten, je kansen, valkuilen, beproevingen en je ware innerlijk’.

A journey based on the belief that it is no coincidence that we were born on a certain date and in a certain place with a specific name.
