Snow and ice in Harbin Every January Chinese city of Harbin hosts the construction of a great snow town, where famous temples and pagodas (built to scale of 1:1) share creative space with wonders from every corner of the planet. The majority of construction for buildings and statues is assisted by full size cranes. When the sun sets, the icy monuments are illuminated from within by hundreds of multicoloured bulbs. Such atmosphere predisposes to traditional Chinese winter pleasures: ice slope gliding, eating hot and freshly cooked Manchurian dumplings with duck, and watching how the golden fireworks unwrap above Harbin (matter of fact, Chinese started using gun powder and fireworks, centuries before Europeans). It is held in Rio de Janeiro where the samba parade through city streets, theatrical and pyrotechnic performance are broadcasted to the entire world. 14 top dancing schools fight for the title to be named the “best”. Prestige and honour are at stake. Usually the carnival starts on the last Saturday before the Lent and carries on for 5 days until “Quatra-fiera de cinzas” - “Ash Wednesday”. The practice shows however that this time frame is often overpassed. Burning Man Annual event in Black Rock desert in Nevada, USA has been labeled “Burning Man” and is arguably one of the most memorable festivals in the world. At “Burning Man” everything’s allowed: music, dancing, blend of madness and extravagancy, countless number of fantastic art ptojects and bright ideas. The most valuable feature of Burning Man is unimaginable sculptures constructed just before the festival starts on the special grounds. Those sculptures are involved in day to day performances and shows. During the festival, on the premises of Burning Man it is prohibited to use a motor vehicle. Cash and currency circulation are also banned, which attributes to the festival being a unique energetic experience.

On the Remembrance Day locals and tourists gather at the ocean shore to light up and set afloat their lanterns. Little floating candles are then set free into the ocean carrying the prayers for dead and living, for victims of wars and deceases, with hopes for brighter and happier future.

For the past 8 years that the brand exists in has melted the hearts of many Hollywood stars as well as hundreds of thousands of females around the world. Today Casato is part of top 10 jewellery firms in Italy.

Federico, could you please tell us how it all started? How did you get into the jewelry business? It all began in Rome by absolute accident. I was supposed to become a lawyer, which is a perceived tradition in my family, and then I met a couple of friends who asked me to join them in starting up a jewellery company. I was 24 at the time, and decided to try and follow that unknown but exciting road. I suppose I just relied on my instinct. I had been decent at designing and making things with my hands ever since my childhood, so that type of decision was dictated by my nature rather than any other factors.

How difficult is it to create such wonderful pieces of art? Where do you get your inspirations from? Every new piece of jewellery is unique. And when creating it I give myself in to the process, to my work. For me the real challenge is to constantly improve and perfect my creations. I like to always aim higher and I am never scared of trying something more difficult. I’ll continue re-shaping a new piece until I am happy with the result. However, if I make it like I have pictured it in my mind, I get a personal satisfaction and that is a very pleasant feeling. Inspiration comes from everywhere. I can see a real life flower or spot an architectural detail in a certain building in Rome and get inspired. But the real creative urge comes from observing today’s women and imagining what jewellery would look good on them. My almost exclusive source of inspiration is femininity.

Popularity of Casato is growing day by day, what is the secret? I think the secret is that every day we’re moving forward restlessly. Casato design team (which I guide and coordinate) is incredibly talented, and we come up with a lot of collections every year. Each collection represents an evolution of something, maybe an evolution of a previous collection, maybe an evolution of an idea that I have in my mind, or simply an evolution of woman’s habit. I am a great observer of women, I like to look at them when they don’t see me, because I want to see them when they are natural. This is the way for me to try to figure out their needs.

What kind of women are your typical clients? I don’t really have a stereotype when talking about women. The only thing that counts for me is femininity. It is a concept that has no age. You can find it in a 20 year old woman as well as in a more aged one. I have seen 70 and above women who still looked and behaved very feminine, as if it was something they had never lost in their lives. Femininity for me is my leading star, it is my compass which directs me in anything I create. And of course Casato woman is a woman

Федерико, расскажите, с чего все начиналось? Как ваша жизнь впервые закружилась в танце с миром драгоценных камней и украшений? Как вы попали в ювелирный бизнес? И что это для вас в первую очередь, все-таки работа или искусство? Все случилось в Риме по чистой случайности. Я должен был стать адвокатом, что являлось традицией в нашей семье из поколения в поколение, но затем я встретил несколько людей, которые предложили мне присоединиться к ним и создать ювелирную компанию. На тот момент мне было 24 года, и я принял решение двигаться по неизведанному, но многообещающему пути. Думаю я последовал внутренней интуиции. С юности у меня хорошо получалось преображать окружающие предметы, я любил мастерить своими руками, этот выбор был просто последствием того, кем я являлся по своей натуре.

В каждое изделие я вкладываю частичку себя, трудность лишь в том, чтобы совершенствовать самого себя с каждым разом и производить все более изящные и красивые изделия по сравнению с предыдущими работами. Мне нравится завышать планку, осваивание новых вершин меня не пугают, а так же я не прекращаю преображать свои работы до того момента, пока они меня полностью удовлетворяют во всех своих аспектах. Вдохновение приходит отовсюду. Оно может прийти от формы цветка, либо от детали архитектурного здания, которое я увидел в Риме. Но настоящее вдохновение приходит, когда я визуализирую современную женщину и то, как она будет выглядеть в моих ювелирных изделиях. Could you tell us about jewellery and fashion? what is a trend now and whether or not we shall follow it?

Если говорить о секрете, я думаю, он в том, что мы движемся вперед каждый день. Дизайнерская группа Casato, в которой я являюсь руководителем и координатором, невероятно вдохновлена, и мы действительно производим много коллекций каждый год, руководствуясь этим чувством. Каждая коллекция представляет переворот и прогресс чего-то, возможно чего-то из предыдущей коллекции, возможно из идеи, которая присутствует в моей голове, либо просто изменения в женских вкусах и привычках. Я внимательный наблюдатель женщин, я люблю исследовать их, когда они максимально натуральны и именно поэтому мне легче предвидеть то, чего они действительно хотят.

Fashion and jewellery, they go together but walk different paths, if that makes sense. I mean that the main difference is the size and the material we are working on. In a dress there is a lot of space to fill, and it’s virtually possible to take care of a lot of details and use many different materials. A piece of jewellery instead it’s a miniature. Given a very limited space, and with a scarce amount of materials, you have to create something unique, which is sending a message that will reach a woman’s heart. So, from this point of view, trends in jewellery and fashion are not the same. Despite this Casato have created many trends in recent years, trends from which the whole international jewelry business took a great benefit. We have been the first company to invent enamel print colorful rings (2004) then the first ones to put the diamonds under a transparent stone (2007), then the first ones to put diamonds on top of a stone (2008), the first one to use rose-cut fancy shape sapphires creating beautiful color effect (2010) then the first one to produce double-rings (2011), then we invented the bracelet-rings (2012), then we created the triple rings joined together to dress the hand in a beautiful way (2013), then we created another trend with long necklaces, long in the front and with long and sexy chain in the back (2014) and we will keep doing the same in years to come. We will keep pushing. In the midst of all of this, we have been changing the rules of how to make jewellery. We have been showing to the whole world that is possible to make jewellery following your soul rather then the common forgery rules. This passion is what makes us stand out and is the reason why you today you can recognize a Casato piece among many other jewellery, because it sticks out for it’s own personality.

How long does it usually take for your concept to become reality? The longest process is the formation of the idea. Then, another important step is to test the idea by re-designing and resketching one piece multiple times until I get perfection. Then, it’s time to bring that piece to life, by producing a unique item of jewellery based on a design. The whole process normally takes from 3 to 6 months, but I had some ideas that took me 2 years to make them happen. In Casato, research never stops

Для каких женщин Вы создаете Ваши украшения? У меня нет каких - либо стереотипов, когда речь заходит о женщинах. Единственная вещь, которая действительно имеет значение - женственность. Это неизменная аксиома. Можно найти 20-летнюю девушку, которой присущ этот фактор, но так же он может быть найден и в более взрослых женщинах. Я видел женщин, которым было 70, но они не теряли свою женственность и всегда поддерживали ее в себе. Женственность является путеводительной звездой, за которой я следую во всех своих начинаниях, а так же во всем, что я делаю. Разумеется, женщина «casato» - это женщина, которая умеет носить ювелирные изделия, у которой есть смелость и храбрость чтобы показать себя, а так же выделиться из толпы.

Расскажите о ювелирной моде? Кто задает ее? Что сейчас в тренде? И стоит ли ей следовать или лучше покупать украшения «на века» Мода и ювелирные изделия являются отраслями одного и того же, но различаются путями. Я имею ввиду то, что главное их отличие - размер материала, над которым мы проделываем нашу работу. В платье много свободного места, которое можно заполнить разными деталями, тогда как ювелирная работа более миниатюрна и кропотлива. С помощью этой маленькой детали можно заполучить сердце женщины, соответственно с этой точки зрения тренды в ювелирной отросли и моде различаются друг от друга. Затем первыми, кто решил помещать бриллианты под прозрачные камни(2007),первыми кто решил использовать форму розы для сапфиров, создавая этим прекрасный эффект оттенка(2010), а так же первыми, кто создал двойные кольца (2011),браслеты-кольца(2012), тройные кольца, совмещенные вместе, предавая руке прекрасный женственный образ(2013). Затем последовал еще один тренд, произведенный Casato - длинные ожерелья, длинные спереди и изящной цепочкой сзади(2014). В дальнейшие годы мы планируем сохранять тенденции и улучшать репутацию, приобретенную в предыдущих годах работ. За эти годы, мы изменили правила изготовления ювелирных изделий. And this year the most popular garment award goes to slip dress: a modest-looking yet stylish silhouette which also time traveled from the decade of Kate Moss and Noel Gallagher to 2016. Slip dress has become a key element of a traditionally grungy Saint Laurent collection. Versace was not far behind, introducing wildlife inspired prints. Our mother is a professional artist who has an exquisite taste, thus since our early childhood we have been able to observe her working: drawing sketches and manufacturing custom made clothes. At some point in life we started designing and making clothes for ourselves, as a hobby. Our creations came out to be absolutely sublime and we thought: “Why don’t we share this beauty with the world?” Today we are extremely glad to notice our products being worn and enjoyed by girls from all around Europe, including countries such as Germany, France, Italy and (of course) Russia. Our creativity is drawn from many sources: the art itself; optimistic, easy going people and our interactions with them; pleasant strolls outdoors; architecture and history; and extensive travelling. In our opinion, it is very important to learn to see true beauty in simplicity, in ordinary things; to spot serenity in how the rain pours outside, or how snow falls steadily on the ground; in how a calm river flows in its blossoming bed; in how the wind caresses summer leaves on the trees; in how graciously the sun rises and sets upon our planet; in how people’s faces change after a kind word or a generous deed. For us these everyday occurrences define the real grace and serve as a key for our inspiration and dedication to our work. How long had you been dating for before getting married? Had you lived together before marriage? Anastasia We had been dating for 1.5 years before we registered our alliance. Most of this time we lived together. We moved in after the second month of going out as a couple. At first Artem was doubtful about living with each other, but I was assured from the start: he’s my destiny, my true other half. Artem I had dated Nastya for around 1.5 years before we got officially married. Living together? It happened very fast. A couple of months after we’d first met each other.

Who was the first to decide about the neccesity of legal marriage? Why? Anastasia I was the first one to decide. Artem was reluctant for a very long time. He thought that it was to early to go all official and that the stamp in the passport essentially does not change a thing. But I personally wanted to put on a beautiful white dress and dive into a real life fairy tale, just like any other girl would want to. So eventually I have managed to convince Artem and he took my side. Artem The decision to take us to a registry office was taken by Nastya. And only by Nastya. She had quite a traditional upbringing and she wanted to do everything in life correctly, including our marriage (laughs).

Как прошла ваша свадьба, сложно ли было самим все организовывать? Где вы провели Медовый месяц? Анастасия Свадьба прошла гораздо лучше, чем мы сами могли себе представить. Синоптики обещали плохую погоду, дождь и сильный ветер, но, как по заказу для нас, в день нашей свадьбы стояла очень теплая (что не свойственно Питеру) ясная погода. Самой организацией свадьбы занималась по большей части я. Ведущего, платье и прочие свадебные нужности я нашла буквально сразу. В основном, конечно, по рекомендациям знакомых и добрых сердобольных людей из интернета)))) Управилась за неделю и можно было идти под венец) Медовый месяц мы провели на Кипре, в отличном отеле Александр Грейт, в Пафосе. Я раньше жила в Пафосе, училась в Интернешнл школе, поэтому хотелось вернуться и побывать здесь еще раз. Тем более, что все знаю. Артем Свадьба прошла замечательно. Организовать все самим было совершенно не сложно. Сложнее было только с финансовой стороны, спасибо большое родственникам, которые помогали в этом вопросе. Медовый месяц провели на Кипре. Очень понравился остров.

Изменился ли ваш уклад жизни после свадьбы?

Анастасия Удивиительно, но после свадьбы мы стали гораздо меньше ссориться. А по большому счету, конечно же, ничего особо не изменилось, кроме красивого кольца на пальце и штампа в паспорте ну и (смеется) новой фамилии Семья Артема стала ко мне по-другому относится. Внимательнее, что ли Артем Уклад жизни абсолютно не изменился. А вот отношение родственников поменялось кардинально. Атмосфера теперь между друг другом абсолютно семейная

How did the ceremony go? Was it hard to organise everyting yourself? Where did you spend your Honey Moon? Anastasia: The wedding celebrations turned out to be way better than we’d expected. The weather forecast was disastrous: heavy rain and strong wind. But as if someone had swung a magic wand, on the actual day the Sun was shining and it was warm (which is altogether very unusual for St. Petersburg). I undertook organising activities myself. I was very lucky to receive some help from my friends and found everything I needed in less than a week. We spent our Honey Moon in Cyprus, staying in Alexander The Great in Paphos. I used to live in Paphos when I was a teenager, went to school there. It was marvelous to be back. Artem: The ceremony was majestic. It was fairly easy to organise everything ourselves. The only problem came from the financial side. However our relatives helped us a lot monetary and I’d like to sincerely thank them. We spent our Honey Moon in Cyprus. I enjoyed my stay there.

Have you routines and attitudes changed after marriage?

Anastasia: It’s remerkable, but after our marriage we have had way less arguments than we had had before. But practically, no, nothing’s changed apart from a beautiful ring on my finger, a passport stamp and a new surname (laughs). To be honest Artem’s family’s attitude toward me has changed. They have started to care about me more. Artem Our routines stayed the same. But our relatives’ perspective has undergone a dramatic change. Now, altogether we feel like a big family. I’m loving it!

Что вы можете посоветовать другим молодым парам, которые не стремятся вступать в брак? Стоит оно того или нет? Анастасия Вступать в брак, однозначно, стоит. Вроде бы и ерунда – поход в Загс и небольшой праздник, но вот что-то меняется. Понимаешь, что вы уже абсолютно родные души. Да и когда берешь фамилию мужа – знаешь, что это уже серьезно. Ты и сам стал другим человеком, Артем Я для себя решил – что оно того стоило. Но, конечно, все индивидуально. И прежде чем жениться надо быть абсолютно готовым к этому шагу и ни на грамм не сомневаться в выбранном спутнике для жизни

Ну что ж, подведем итоги… Оформлять свои отношения на бумаге или нет? I.B. What can you advice to other couples out there who are living together but are not planning to register yet? Is getting officialy married worth it or not?

Anastasia: In my opinion it is completely worth it. At the first glance it looks like giberrish: going to the registry and all that jazz. But then you realise that some things aren’t the same. You understand that you and your husband are now one soul. And then comes the surname change. That’s a serious benchmark in life for me. You realize that you’re becoming a different person just to be happy with the one you love. Artem I’ve resoluted that getting married is actually a fantastic thing. But every person must come to his or her own conclusion. It’s a question which requires a subjective answer. I personally believe that before getting married and going all official both partners have to be absolutely prepared and bear no doubts about their futture wife or husband

Well, let’s draw some finish lines ... Should a marriage be registered or simple cohabitation is enough for happy life together? Of course it is a matter for each sepparate couple to settle. However I think that I’ve sorted thus question out in my head long ago. If a man is ready to assume responsibility for his beloved woman, if he is eager to take care of her and love her, then he will offer her his hand in marriage, his flaming heart, and...of course..... his surname.

On 13th of January, Leningrad presented their new music video for the song “Exponat” (The Exhibit). The director of the video is Anna Parmas and it stars Julia Topolnitskaya. In the first 24 hours since the upload the video was watched by almost a 100,000 people (as of 29th of January the number of views is at 24 million). 13 января, группа «Ленинград» представила клип на песню «Экспонат». The music video has become a “bomb” on social media. And catchy quotes from the song have spread all over the Russian speaking web as hash tags. The popularity of the song can be easily explained: in a short video Leningrad managed to ridicule problems that modern fashion divas are facing in such way that even the subjects of the satire reacted positively. Sergey Shnurov has explained the success of the video and what caused him to cover female thematics in his songs:

She has been in a spotlight lately with numerous journalists interviewing her and gossiping about her private life. Julia has an Instagram account with her fans constantly comparing the image she created in the video with her true self. Topolnitskaya uploads a lot of selfies, however she rarely wears high heel shoes in real life. The young actress is residing in St. Petersburg and considers herself a follower of Leningrad. According to her own words her acting in the video was mostly improvised:

«When I was chosen as the lead there was a fixed script which on its own was extremely humorous. However I constantly thought of what I could add to my character so she’d become even more recognisible and funny. Anna Parmas (Director of the video) granted me freedom for improvisation. I felt extremely comfortable working with her! She was completing me in a way. Hence our relationship on the shooting stage produced countless amount of unplanned, unscheduled jokes and laughs which have emphasised the effect of the video clip” After “Exponat’s” breakthrough, Topolnitskaya has been receiving numerous offers, although she keeps all the details private and undisclosed.

If in the case of a new born baby the present is primarily targeted at parents (or yourselves if it’s your child), while he or she will probably be to careless to be able to defferentiate “Chateau Margaux” with 15+ years of storage from any other ordinary wine when in his teens, in the rest of the cases a present of a collection wine is a gift for true connoisseur. When searching for vintage wines one should never neglect negotiant collections in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Chapagne, Porto or those of prominent houses and castles in the same regions. Колокаси

Вообще-то это корнеплод, который растет в основном в юго-восточной Азии, Арабских странах, немного в Греции (только на одном острове Икария) и на Кипре. Хотя, если честно, лично я познакомилась с этим овощем на … Гавайях. Там его называют Таро и делают из него практически все – от безумно вкусных чипсов, до выпечки. В простонародье Колокаси – это сладкий картофель. В сыром виде его не употребляют, нужно готовить. Рецептов огромное количество. Любимое блюдо киприотов – колокаси, тушеный со свининой Так же плоды можно запекать в фольге, жарить, варить, делать пюре. Практически все, что вы делаете с обыкновенным картофелем, применимо к колокаси. Но, как и с картофелем, будьте аккуратны с колокаси. Это довольно-таки калорийный овощ с высоким количеством углеводов.

Kolokasi

Kolokasi is not, strictly speaking a vegetable, but a root. It is grown in the South-East Asia, in the Middle East, on the Greek island of Ikaria and in Cyprus. However, I tried it for the first time while on holiday in Hawaii, USA. Locals call it Taro and make a lot of things out of it, starting from yummy chips and ending with baking products. In Cypriot village culture Kolokasi is referred to as “sweet potato”. It is rarely consumed in its raw form with countless number of precipices available on how to cook the root. Avocado

Countries located in tropical and subtropical climate zones, for instance: Southern states of The USA, Brazil, African countries, Israel, - are biggest avocado producers in the world. When using avocado for food, one must be especially careful with leaves, rind and stone of the vegetable, for they contain a toxin called persin which may cause allergy and digestion problems in humans. Also, in most cases, the crops sold in the shops are still quite hard, therefore they need some time to fully ripe and become soft; then they can be healthily consumed. To determine the readiness of avocado is fairly easy: the pulp must have a tender consistency and its taste must loosely mimic the blend of butter and mushed potherbs with occasional flavour of pine nuts.

How to cook?

Avocado pulp is widely used in so called cold meals, namely salads. Avocado goes well with red fish, and can be utilized as a substitute for butter in sandwiches and other snacks. To prevent quick oxidizing and blackening of the vegetable it is advised to spray avocado with lemon or lime juices.

In addition it has been concluded that chemical elements contained in broccoli help to battle cancer cells in human body. However, just a few days of storing broccoli at room temperature will half the amount of vitamin C in it. In order to preserve the plant’s qualities it is best to store it in the freezer. When cooking broccoli it is important not to over boil, keeping the pot on fire for too long will result in the loss of all its perks. It is better to practice steaming or blanching instead. Brocolli would make a perfect filler for salads, pies and baked puddings. In addition, broccoli pottage soup with fresh cream is a renown gourmet experience, definitely worthy of trying.

Pepper

Quite a few pepper strains are grown in Cyprus. Those include: red pepper, yellow pepper, green pepper, horn pepper as well as juicy and beautifully looking florina pepper. Peppers of all kinds are almost calorie free. The usual concentration is 30 calories for every 100 grams of a vegetable. The crops themselves are fragrant and exceptionally tasty. Essentially, on chemical level peppers are a goldmine of antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E. When it comes to the amount of vitamin C present, sweet pepper is an absolute heavyweight champion among all vegetables combined. A daily vitamin C norm for an adult person can be satisfied with just 1-3 crops of green pepper for instance. Peppers can be consumed raw or cooked (as in the case of famous Russian traditional dish: peppers, stuffed with minced meat), can be added to a salad or soup, fried with scrambled eggs, or served as a meal on its on. The only tricky part is peeling of the artichoke, for the edible part is considerably smaller than the entire bud sold in a store. The vegetable is considered a product low on calories with 50 ccal per 100 grams ratio. Artichokes posses a peculiar but pleasant taste and contain a balanced set of nutritious elements and compounds including calcium, iron, potassium, sodium, vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, B carotene and inulin. In order for the vegetable to maintain its advantages, meals containing artichokes must be eaten immediately after having been cooked.

Aubergines

Sometimes commonly referred to as “the blues” (especially in Russian-speaking countries) In fact aubergines also come in white colour and may even bear a stripped pattern on their rind. Supposingly, aubergines were first cultivated in India. In ancient Greece they were called “the apples of madness” due to the fact that the state of lost contact with reality was mistakingly attributed to the use of this vegetable as food. Nowadays, however, based on scientific research, aubergines are known to be extremely powerful aphrosidiacs. Aubergines are utilized in almost every national cuisine. They are dried, fried, boiled, baked, stewed, steamed, grilled, marinated, even eaten raw. Substances contained in aubergines are famous for their fat decomposing ability, therefore the crop is highly recommended by dietologits for people who are trying to lose weight. In addition an abergine possesses high levels of potassium, a mineral beneficial to our heart activity. Regular consumption of aubergines positively attributes to the pH balance in our bodies.

Courgette or Zucchini

This crops range in colour from dark green to almost white. In the USSR, zucchini paste was one of the most popular dippers and it is still celebrated in many Eastern European countries. Zucchinni can be consumed all around the clock with zero harm to the waist size. 100 grams carry only 16 calories. Zucchinis are stuffed with potassium, phosphorus, calcium, vitamins C and B. Zucchinis can be served raw or cooked and are very easy to store. Dark coloured strains won’t rot even if kept at room temperature for an entire year! Light coloured zucchinis are more vulnerable to the environment and their peel becomes yellowish over time which signifies that the vegetables have spoiled. The word “zucchini” used in American English is of Italian origin and if translated means: “little pumpkin”. The alternative nomenclature: “courgette”, used primarily in British English comes from French language; and was borrowed after the Norman conquest of England in 1066.

ROYAL HEART Charity Event Royal Heart Charity Event is a charitable evening which will take place on the 20th of February on the premises of the oldest golf club in Cyprus “Secret Valley”. The key person behind is Natali Mavromoustaki the winner of “Face of The Globe Wales 2016” who will also take part in the international Grand Finals of the competition later this year to be held in Paris. All the proceeds from the evening gathered under the umbrella of Rainbow Child Foundation will be used to help the children in need. The beauty queen is a proactive humanist. She propagates defense of human rights, especially the rights of children with autism, refugees, the elderly and people who suffered from human trafficking. At the moment, Natali is working as a volunteer in Syrian refugee camp in Greece. In order to become a professional, Natali had obtained a bachelor degree of a qualified social worker. After the contest in Paris she is planning to continue with her endeavours to fight for the fairer world. Natali has given numerous interviews on TV channels such as RIK1, Sigma and to multiple magazines: Cosmopolitan, Esquire and many others. Rodica Garoyian will also appear as an honorary guest.
