En 1983, un groupe d’intellectuels de renom, parmi lesquels Ferdinand de Lesseps, Louis Pasteur et Jules Verne créa le concept unique de l’Alliance Française 140 ans plus tard, l’Alliance Française est devenue la plus grande ONG culturelle mondiale, présente aux quatre coins du globe, avec 834 établissements répartis sur 133 pays qui sont tous dédiés à la promotion et à la diffusion de la langue et de la culture françaises
Avec ses quelques 28 000 apprenants, le réseau Alliance Française en Inde est le plus grand du monde, et depuis sa naissance à Pondicherry en 1889, il joue un rôle-clé en nourrissant les échanges linguistiques et culturels entre la France et l’Inde Il n ’ a cessé de croître, grâce à la passion et à l’engagement de nombreuses personnalités indiennes, telles que Mrinalini Sarabhai, Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi ou Devi Mangaldas qui fondèrent l’Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad en 1981 Aujourd’hui, ses quinze établissements mettent tout en œuvre pour offrir une expérience d’apprentissage immersive inégalée complétée par une vaste gamme d’événements culturels.
Je me souviens parfaitement de la première fois où j’ai entendu parler de l’Alliance Française C’était en 1996, quand je m ’apprêtais à partir au Nigéria comme Attaché Linguistique à l’Ambassade de France C’est là que j’ai découvert un réseau comme nul autre et je me suis immédiatement reconnu dans ses missions et ses valeurs Il ne m ’ a pas fallu beaucoup de temps pour décider de rejoindre le mouvement et les missions se sont enchaînées : Chittagong (Bangladesh), Busan (South Korea), Winnipeg (Canada), Manchester (Royaume-Uni) , et maintenant Ahmedabad Avec partout la même fierté d’appartenir à cette communauté
Ce sera donc bien évidemment pour moi une joie et un honneur immenses d’assister à la célébration du 140e anniversaire de l’Alliance Française en juillet à Paris, aux côtés de mes collègues du monde entier Longue vie à l’Alliance Française!

The Alliance Française network in India is the world’s largest, with some 28,000 learners, and since its inception in Pondicherry in 1889, it has played a pivotal role in fostering linguistic and cultural exchange between France and India. It has never stopped growing, thanks to the passion and commitment of numerous Indian leading figures, such as Mrinalini Sarabhai, Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi or Devi Mangaldas who founded the Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad in 1981. Today, its 15 branches strive to provide an unequalled holistic learning experience completed by a wide array of cultural events
I vividly remember the first time I heard about Alliance Française It was back in 1996, when I was getting ready to move to Nigeria as a Language Attaché for the French Embassy. I then discovered a network that is one of a kind and immediately identified with its missions and values It did not take me long to decide to join the movement And one assignment came after another: Chittagong (Bangladesh), Busan (South Korea), Winnipeg (Canada), Manchester (United Kingdom) and now, Ahmedabad And everywhere the same pride of being part of this community
It will naturally be a tremendous joy and honour for me to attend the celebrations of Alliance Française’s 140th anniversary in July in Paris, alongside my colleagues from across the globe. Long live Alliance Française!

I was curious to learn French and enrolled with the thought of learning the language from the best I could possibly find. I am glad I made the choice to learn it from Alliance Française Baroda, it not only helped me to get going with French language but also allowed to dive deeper into the culture itself by providing relevant exposure through cinéclub and equipping with supporting notes as well as access to bibliothèque for books to make it more impactful
Also the course was well designed which allowed us to be in an environment which encouraged to learn and absorb every minute detail that needs to be covered right from spellings to getting use to a different variety of vocabulary It was quite effortless and smooth with the right assistance and guidance from Payal Madam I have to say with her patience to solve every possible doubt backed up with explaining it with relevant references and pictures made it much more interesting
