This year in Science has seen students reaching for the stars - well, perhaps not as far as the stars, but we have been investigating what life would be like on other planets in the Solar System. The Mars 2117 mission aims to build the knowledge and scientific capabilities that will enable the U AE to realise humankind ’s universal dream of the very first sustainable colony on the Red Planet within the next 100 years. Our students have been investigating some of the challenges that the first inhabitants would face, devising innovative solutions to realise the UAE ’s goal.

This theme was also the focus for this years IB1 Group IV Project a collaborative research project that sees students from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Design and Technology working together to solve a real world challenge. Students presented their ideas to SLT and Year 10 students in an exhibition in February. We also had the addition of Astronomy as a stand alone subject for Year 9 students. As part of their Astronomy lessons students have learned about the features of the Moon and the life cycle of stars Mr Stemp has also been holding an Astronomy CC A for interested students.
