Psychology Mentoring Scheme

A small group of IB2’s had a fantastic idea a year ago, developing a system that would help Year 11s in developing and improving their skills and knowledge as well as application in psychology. Each IB student had a Year 11 that they would teach depending on their strengths and weaknesses. They had to make resources and assessments to help them understand the content of the topics and structure of the exams

There was a drastic improvement in their results as sessions went on.

Clinical Psychology/Psychiatry deals with the assessment and treatment of mental illness and psychological issues. Forensic Psychology, which is part of the IGCSE content, explores how scientific methods can be used to explain real -life civil, family, or criminal cases, and how nature vs nurture affects human behavior. Lastly, students interested in the business environment can benefit from combining psychology with business. This can lead to job opportunities in HR where they will be responsible for employee wellbeing and motivation within the organization.

Now the IB1s have started teaching their batch of Year 11. Hopefully this outstanding mentoring scheme will continue in the coming years. Currently there are around 7 mentors that are learning new studies and ideas about development and making resources for that topic to teach the Year 11s. The mentoring scheme has made so many students reach their highest potential creating a legacy for the Psychology Department in Deira International School.

Summary of the year.
