Throughout the year, students at DIS have made outstanding progress in English and have been involved in a number of exciting opportunities. Most notably, our wonderful Year 11 students sat their final iGCSE exam for English Language in January, receiving exceptional grades which reflected their dedication and positive attitude towards their English studies. We are also extremely proud of one of our IB1 students, Jaden Mascarenhas, who won first place in the Emirates Festival of Literature for her short story, ‘My Oldest Friend, My Greatest Enemy.’ Jaden showcased her incredibly moving story at our annual Literary Soiree event, in which a range of students across all year groups shared their talents in creative writing; we also welcomed international author Danielle Tulley to this event, and she provided our students with words of encouragement to continue developing their written skills and passion for English. In Key Stage 3 lessons, students have been developing their love of reading various competitions have been held, including designing a library garden and taking part in the reading review raffle. Our community also came together for the ‘Old Books for New Eyes’ book drive initiative whereby students and their families donated unused books which were distributed to less privileged communities across Africa and the Middle East. Our Year 7 students also enjoyed a fantastic theatre performance of William Shakespeare ’s play ‘ A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ onboard the QE2 ship in preparation for their studies of this play in their English lessons.

As always, we are immensely proud of our students and the community here at DIS, and their wonderful contributions to the English curriculum and events. We cannot wait to see what the next academic year holds!
