Year 11 was more than a year that sat their GCSE s. It was a community created by the students and teachers, in which we all supported, communicated, worked as a team, and taught each other It started with an initiative to create a committee, ‘The Events Committee,’ which was the uprising of our many memorable events. Many of these events were studentled and planned out to perfection, with slight last -minute adjustments, These include events such as Freakfest, Rewards Day, and Prom. All the students who were part of the committee, would gather up ideas and bring them forward to Mr Iqbal who would approve of them and drive on the idea Freakfest was one of our most successful events created, and not only students but teachers enjoyed it too It had a haunted house, with different themes, games, and best -dressed competitions along with many other food, snacks, photo booths, and exciting stations. Moving on, one of our most memorable days was Rewards Day The running, shouting, singing, dancing, and water fights all of which laid out a perfect day; once again a student -led activity that had movies, games, breakfast, pizzas, snacks, water fights, and much more. There have also been multiple international trips with the students going to Borneo and giving back to some of the poorer communities out there and learning how others less fortunate live. Over the spring break many of our year 11 students also went on a ski trip over to Switzerland. Here they learned how to ski, snowboard, live independently, and rely on each other; with late night walks and early morning breakfasts, with snow fights and skiing down trails all day long - they had all experienced a wonderful adventure out in the mountains. We cannot forget the National and International days of DIS, where culture was embodied through food stands, and nationalities were brought together to celebrate the diversity of students, families and staff All these events and many more made our year group what it is today, yet as we move forward in our years left in school - above all we look forward to developing and maintaining this community created.
