Summary of the year.

Jessica Broadhurst

Year 2 have had a busy and exciting year at Deira International School. The Year 2 teachers have continued to be impressed by the children’s perseverance and determination to succeed. As young communicators, Year 2 have thrived at collaborating when working in teams both in and out of lessons. They have developed many Learner Attribute skills such as being principled, reflective and balanced. The children have enjoyed earning House Points this year linked to the different attributes for their House Teams; Saluki, Oryx, Tahr and Falcon.

Following the Year 2 National Curriculum has benefited our children in numerous ways. We have the autonomy to be creative and develop lessons to make the learning fun and memorable! From creating our very own Dragon Books, to investigating materials to protect Humpty Dumpty, to create our own 3D shapes to describe the properties, Year 2 are encouraged to ask questions and become inquirers. What a year it’s been! So many fabulous events to engage the children and immerse them in new experiences. A Year 2 favourite has to be Superhero Day! Dressing up as our favourite superheroes, inviting real life superhero parents to school and creating our own Superhero Comic Books online.

International Day was a great opportunity to celebrate our diversity in Year 2 and learn from different cultures. Encouraging children to be open to different cultures developed their open -minded learner attribute.

“My favourite thing about Year 2 is that the teachers are kind and helpful. I feel happy when I play with my friends and when they help me when I find Maths a bit tricky. Lastly, I feel proud when I do my English writing tasks independently. ” Zahra 2A
