Hello and welcome to our special Aesthetics Awards 2016 supplement, in which we will celebrate the Winners, Highly Commended and Commended finalists who were recognised at the prestigious ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel on December 3.

Huge thanks must go to everyone who took part; we were absolutely delighted to see so many smiling faces on the evening and hope you all had a wonderful time. It is an honour to play a part in acknowledging the hard work, time and commitment that is put into aesthetics by everyone each year – it is fantastic to see so many people dedicated to making our specialty a safe and successful one.

The glamorous event was even bigger and better than last year, with more than 625 guests in attendance and the hilarious comedian Hal Cruttenden hosting the ceremony, while sharing his unique take on the aesthetics industry!

A special mention must go to Dr John Curran, who took home The Schuco International Award for Special Achievement, which recognises the outstanding effort of an individual working within medical aesthetics. John began his journey as a successful GP in Northern Ireland, before embarking on a career within aesthetics, becoming a founding member of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine and serving time as president as well as chair of its ethics committee.

He has worked tirelessly to promote excellence and safety within the industry so it was an absolute honour to celebrate his achievements with this award.

Many thanks must also go to our panel of more than 50 judges, who kindly gave up their time to carefully assess and score all entries. With such a high standard of entries this year, the bar was raised even higher than before so well done to all that made it to the finalist stage, as well, of course, to those who were Commended and Highly Commended.

Charity Partner For the second year running, the Aesthetics Awards has supported Operation Smile. The international medical charity is one of the largest volunteer-based medical charities providing free, safe and effective reconstructive surgery for children and young adults born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. As well as running more than 150 international surgical programmes a year, Operation Smile has established year-round cleft treatment centres and provides local healthcare workers with medical equipment, supplies, education and training. Thanks to your generosity, almost

£4,000 was raised during the ceremony, all of which will be donated to Operation Smile. Sarah Kosciukiewicz, the business development officer at Operation Smile, said, “Thank you to everyone for your generous donations; together you have helped give 26 children in developing countries the gift of a smile. The evening More than 625 guests gathered at The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel to celebrate another successful year in medical aesthetics at the Aesthetics Awards on December 3 2016. The glamorous event brought together clinical practitioners, front-ofhouse teams, associations, manufacturers, suppliers and distributors for an evening of entertainment and celebration, recognising Commended and Highly Commended finalists, as well as the Winners in 24 prestigious categories. Guests were invited to network with colleagues and friends at the pre-dinner drinks reception, before moving to the ballroom for a delectable three-course meal and comedy set presented by stand-up comedian and host for the evening, Hal Cruttenden.

Amanda Cameron, the editor of Aesthetics, opened the ceremony with a welcome speech that thanked guests for their participation and continued support of the Aesthetics Awards, before Cruttenden and compère, Jon Briggs, who is best known as the original voice of Apple’s iPhone assistant Siri, then began the ceremony. The first winner of the evening was Heliocare® from AesthetiCare, which won Best Cosmeceutical/Product Range of the Year. This was followed by awards for injectable, treatment and treatment partner of the year, before Profhilo® from HA Derma and IBSA was recognised with The Barry Knapp Award for Product Innovation of the Year, supported by Oxygenetix. Clinics in Wales, Ireland, Scotland, South England, North England and London were all recognised for their dedication to patient care and commitment to safe practice, as well as ASKINOLOGY, based in the City of London, which won the 3D-lipo Award for Best New Clinic UK & Ireland. Medical director of ASKINOLOGY, Dr Askari Townshend said, “I am very happy. I think to be pitted against your peers and to be judged by somebody in the industry, who is the most experienced, is a really precious accolade.”

Reception teams, equipment suppliers, distributors, customer service, sales representatives and associations were also all recognised, as well as clinic groups with 3 clinics or more and those with 10 or more. The winner of The Dermalux Award for Medical Aesthetic Practitioner of the Year was Mr Dalvi Humzah, who also won The Enhance Insurance Award for Training Initiative of the Year for the Dalvi Humzah Aesthetic Clinical Training Courses. Also recognised on the night was independent nurse prescriber and clinic owner Frances Turner Traill who won the Institute Hyalual Award for Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner of the Year, as well as being Commended in the Best Clinic Scotland category.

The spectacular ceremony concluded with the presentation of The Schuco International Award for Special Achievement. CEO of Schuco International Paul Huttrer presented the trophy to Dr John Curran. Dr Curran was celebrated for his tireless work to promote best practice in the industry, always putting patients first and his efforts to push aesthetic standards forward. Huttrer said in his speech about Dr Curran’s dedication to aesthetics; “Often the voice of reason, John is a fantastic ambassador for the industry, and a great representation of outstanding achievements that can be reached through hard work and dedication, as shown by his work for over two decades.”

Speaking of the evening as a whole, aesthetic practitioner Dr Benji Dhillon commented, “I think this is the number one event to go to in the Awards calendar so it’s something we couldn’t miss. The Aesthetics Awards are important for the industry because they really raise the bar of what we’re trying to do. At the end of the day, that’s better for us as an industry, better for our patients and better for a lot of the services we provide.” The Aesthetics Awards 2017 will take place on December 2 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel.

The first Winner of the evening was Heliocare® from AesthetiCare, which was awarded Cosmeceutical Range/Product of the Year. The daily-use photo and antioxidant skin protection range aims to treat patients of all ages and levels of photodamage.

Judges were impressed with the clinical peer-reviewed literature supporting the product and the development of the range since its launch in 2008. La Belle Forme received a High Commendation and Commendation for two other categories this year, but managed to take the prize for The Cosmedic Pharmacy Award for Best Clinic Scotland. The judges noted that this category had a particularly high standard of entries, but thought that La Belle Forme triumphed. La Belle Forme is led by consultant plastic surgeon Mr Taimur Shoaib, who said, “We are delighted and overwhelmed by this award.
